Silver Playthrough w/ Dunsparce starter

April 5, 2009
So it took me about a minute when I started playing again to make a quick realization I have already noticed when I first caught my Dunsparce - there are no effects. I must've been in the Generation 4 mindset too long, I guess, because I also notice that Gastly does not have the effect Levitate acting.
What am I getting at?
Ground moves WORK on Ghost types like Gastly and even better, they do Super Effective damage since it also is a Poison type! Seeing as how I had earned a Mud Slap TM from Falkner I quickly taught it to Dunsparce in it's 4th slot as a filler Ground move until she learns a better one.

Took me 2 tries to beat him because he hypnosised and spited all the PP of my Mud Slap. So, my battle with DICKS quickly followed like this...
Trying for Hypnosis predictably, it missed. I Mud Slap to lower to accuracy of Hypnosis even more, and continue with this with Gastly's constant misses and defeat Gastly pretty easily. Took about 3 Mud Slaps.
Zubat was too easy, and was fodder to allow Rage to build up.
Quilava tried, and failed, miserably. Smokescreen to start? I slam you with a Rage or two and you are outta here.

After that I head into the forest and get the Farfetch'd to the owner and receive Cut, which I apply to Chikorita to be my HM slave and head back to the Gym to face off with the Bug leader.
The standard preliminary trainers were no match for Dunsparce, so I'll go ahead and tell about the Gym Leader battle.
First off, I use Defence Curl twice just in case the Hyper Cutter of Scyther does me in, which I doubt. Metapod and Kakuna do not put up much of a fight as predicted, and allow for me to build Rage. By the time I get to Scyther, Dunsparce is so pissed with Rage that she takes the Scyther out in two simple hits, while the speedier Scyther tried the Hyper Cutter but can't build it up fast enough.

After claiming my Charcoal, I head off into the forest bidding Azalea town farewell. I encounter the man who gives the Headbutt TM and replace Rage with it because Headbutt deals much more damage in what would take Rage longer.
I make it out of the forest, obtain Sweet Scent, and avoid most of the trainers near the Day Care, for I am considering to soon catch a single evolution bug-type like Pinsir or Heracross and they may need the experience more.
Upon arriving at Goldenrod City, I automatically go to receive my bicycle and Radio Card (only failing the quiz twice due to stupid mistakes on my part :\). Then I head a bit more north, take out a few unavoidable trainers that are un-noteworthly and obtain Quick Claw.

I stop now to consider that now may be the time to consider who will be in my second slot, because I have choices like Yanma, Heracross, Pinsir and Sudowoodo.

Excellent. Makes me wanna try something like this.

Also, I'd go with Yanma for your second. Best of luck with your travels in Johto, but with your Dusnparce already showing how powerful it can be, I think you'll do fine.

Sorry for the lack of today's, i just saw the lack of attention this thread was getting and got discouraged. I just want this thread to get at least some attention to continue. I did do a bit of playing late last night, so here is today's short post.

Happily today I found out that there was the Bug-Catching competition, and after putting a side-to-side comparison, I liked Pinsir's stats the most and the easier availability of one. That, and it could also be a temporary one also. My rules never said I had to stick with the other two (I probably will, nonetheless).

So, the competition starts off. My luck is very bad at findings, as Butterfrees, Beedrills, and the occasionaly Scyther appear. I would've chosen Scyther, HANDS DOWN, however the second generation granted it the (downgrade, IMO) evolution Scizor. I did manage to catch one as a back-up if I never caught a Pinsir.

However, I did. A lil' beauty of a female, level 14 Pinsir. I fear my 21 Dunsparce will KO her too easily seeing as the Headbutt is a strong move and the STAB bonus as well, so I Mud Slap a few times. Throw a ball, escapes. Throw another, hook, line and sinker. She was mine.

And with that I shut off the game for the night and the following day as well.

And here is my Poke Party stats for once:

Level 21 Female Dunsparce
Headbutt
Defence Curl
Spite
Mud-Slap

Level 14 Female Pinsir
Vicegrip
Focus Energy
Bind

Vicegrip is a sexy move.

Lemme get something straight. You first complain about this in the first page of the topic, and now you are considering it. If that is not an oxymoron move then I am unsure what is.

And there is a new (short) entry up detailing the hunt for a time consuming Heracross. Part B will be up later today.
