So frustrated with Nintendo

So my switch is only 6 months old, and the joy-con drift is so bad now, it’s making it difficult to even play ACNH. I called Nintendo and they said they’ll repair it, but their repair Center is currently closed due to covid-19. Once it reopens it’ll be about 4 weeks for me to get my joy-con back once j send it in.
Does anyone know of a place that actually has joy cons in stock at the moment so that I can pick up a pair and be able to keep playing while I’m waiting? Really not happy with this, because I’ve always associated Nintendo products with quality, and my 7 year old 3ds works perfectly still. So really annoyed with my switch doing this after 6 months

For the moment, have you tried this? If that doesn't help at all, then try updating your joycons, and if they're already up to date, then try looking on Amazon or GameStop or calling up Target or WalMart to see if they can help.

Idk about OP, but I know in my area rubbing alcohol has been pretty hard to come by, so this might be difficult to do if you don’t already have it on hand. I’ve heard good things about this method, though.

You don't really need rubbing alcohol exactly! Just a damp cloth will do the same, the rubbing alcohol just tends to evaporate and dry because that's what alcohol does, so you would just have to be very cautious with the amount of water you would be using. o:

I'm not sure as I haven't watched that particular video in awhile; that one might have the vibrate your joycons and rotate the analogue stick for a few minutes method ... ? I've fav'd a few and I'm not sure which is which, haha.

But I'd try looking around for methods like that before sending them in since it truly is an inconvenient pain.

Ah nice, I didn’t know the exact mechanics of it so I wasn’t sure if the alcohol was actually doing something other than cleaning debris away. Good to know for future reference!

Works really well.

Try the swab method mentioned above. Totally fixed mine.

I understand your frustration. Nintendo used to make products that were virtually indestructable. When I was a kid, Nintendo Power would publish photos of Gameboys that had been smashed, burnt, you name it and still functioned. You couldn't break one if you tried.

Those days are over. While they still have exceptionally good customer service and warranties, their products are flimsy pieces of **** that short out/break down/crap out at the slightest bit of dust or moisture. It's a joke.

But yeah. Try the swab method. Totally fixed my joycons and they were messed UP.

If you go buy yourself a new set and you're thinking of third party (Amazon has plenty), make sure you know two things.

1. Not all third party joycons sync up automatically with your Switch. I bought the GameCube retro ones from Sades and they did. Just check before buying if you want to avoid the hastle of programming them to your console.

2. Most off-brand joycons don't have HD Rumble. So when you fish in Animal Crossing for example and the fish nibble nibble nibbles at your bait, you won't feel a tiny rumble followed by a big rumble when it actually bites but rather each rumble will be a full tilt max rumble. Which can be quite weird so I turn the rumble feature off when using those joycons.

Yeah I tried to clean them with a cotton swab and it did nothing. In addition, when I called Nintendo they had me recalibrate the joy cons and that did nothing.

Yeah the calibration isn't going to do squat. The dirt has to be cleaned off that area just under the little plastic cup where the top piece fits on or it's never going to work right.

Honestly I'd just get myself a cheap off-brand set until you can get those fixed properly by Nintendo.

The interesting thing is it doesn’t look dirty in there, but I guess it still could be. I wonder why the 3ds never had this problem as the joystick touch pad was similar.

Recalibrating my right one actually helped for quite a bit tbh. They have troubleshooting steps that they have to follow and that's one of them. If recalibrating does fix the issue they don't want to have you send in the Joy-Con for something that could've been fixed right there. However, they do have a form that you can fill out that doesn't require you to do any troubleshooting steps for the repair if it really bothers you.

Was actually just talking about this with someone on a Nintendo fan forum the other day. And apparently it does happen from time to time with the 3ds circle pad as well. Just not nearly as often and when dust and dirt do get in there and cause problems it's easier to take it apart to fix it on your own than it is with a joycon.

Well I recalibrated again and it seems to be quite a bit better now, but still doing it occasionally. But definitely a lot more manageable. I’ll just have to keep an eye on it.

I never got around to sending my original joycons to Nintendo. Before COVID-19, I ended up buying another pair at Target. Honestly, I check there or Wal-mart for Joycons.

I wouldn't buy off-brand ones. That's just me though.

mine disconnecting now if I move wrong
idk if their breaking or if it's dirt but it's annoying

It's actually a load of crap that they're $100 but are really selling broken controllers. It's a real lame thing.

Disconnecting as in coming loose from the switch/joycon grip or just not responding at all?

I originally only intended (and only advise) to buy cheap knockoffs until a person could actually get theirs repaired by Nintendo. Because God knows how long the repair service will be down and you have to play somehow so why pay full price for replacements?

However I've actually come to really enjoy my cube style joycons and I dont know if I want to switch back lol.

like the screen to reconnect comes up alot
then I have to take them off the switch and pop them back on

I get that a lot with my original joycons. They've both been taken off and put back on too many times and will no longer click into place as securely as they should.

Is that what your deal is?
