From the latest Nintendo Direct, it seemed to comfirm a 'leak' stating that you arrive on the island with two random villagers who also bought into the getaway package...

My hopes is one of the reason for the massive delay, aside from them just wanting to create a much higher quality game for us all, is that they add 3DS compatibility to New Horizon so we can 'send' our savefile to New Horizons and bring two of our villagers with us from our New Leaf town.

I am honestly expecting this to not happen, but its something I'll be hopeful for. It would just be nice to start fresh with two villagers I'm extremely familiar with, especially since these two villagers who come with you are supposedly to stick around for an extremely long time.

Sounds like a nice feature, but I kinda doubt that this will happen. I guess it could be too complicated
to connect New Leaf with New Horizons. Besides, I don't know if you could even connect the 3DS at all
with the Switch? Overall, I think if you want to start the game with villagers you like, you have to reset
for them, at least that's what I probably gonna do.

I hope we can use amiibo card to choose the first two villagers that way we don't have to reset the game.

First two villagers won’t matter to me if they find a simple and easy solution to villager move outs and move ins. I also plan on cycling through many villagers before I settle on my finals so I can experience villagers I haven’t before! It’s a nice concept though, since I think I recall in the direct them saying something about the first two villagers might hold some significance to you (just like any starter) since they will be helping you settle in the island and learning the ins and outs of the island together. Although I’m not sure how easily it could be implemented or if that’s even worth doing just for those two villagers. My feeling is that they will give us more control overall over villagers so that kinda stuff won’t be so necessary...

Would be a neat idea but I think Nintendo probably won't make things that complicated.

From what I know the Switch hasn't shared anything with the 3DS in terms of "trading." I think to do it only between two games would be a big ask as well. I honestly don't know how that'd even work seeing as the 3DS isn't as current as it used to be and I think Nintendo wants to kind of do away with it? Just my opinion though. :p

Although! If the new Pokemon Switch games were to do something like that using the 3DS & the Switch, it'd make sense for other games too. But they probably would of already announced that at this point

I don't think that they gonna do this because of that Pokemon Home (or how it's called) which is kinda
the trading system you use for trading Pokemon over to SwSh.

Besides, I do wonder if the 3DS is even technical able to connect to the Switch? And even if it works,
I doubt that you could then transfer your whole save file from New Leaf to New Horizons. It's like they
really wanna be sure that you start fresh from the beginning.

Sounds like a nice idea, didn’t they do it for Wild World and Let’s Go to the City? Even if the 3DS can’t connect to the Switch, I know you can save data on Amiibo figures, so maybe if it was ever to come to that, you could use AC figures to store your data on that and scan it when you’re on the plane. Idk, just an idea. But i wouldn’t use it myself since I don’t want to lose my NL data and I like starting fresh in AC games :3

I honestly wouldn't want my New Horizons and New Leaf to be connected. I mean, obviously, I want the same NPCs and many returning villagers (maybe even a few that weren't ported over to New Leaf), but I don't want anything from my New Leaf town to come over. I would like to start fresh like I have with all the Animal Crossing games. I don't want a continuity because the games don't really have story lines.

My thoughts, exactly. Haven't played NL in a while and I really want a fresh start! Plus, I want to get to know different villagers instead of having a list of dreamies I absolutely need to get.

I hope there are new villagers! Fingers crossed we get some cute lil fruit bats!

I think amiibo cards will be the only way to choose villagers that move onto the island.

it would be super nice if they gave the option to use amiibo cards so you start with villagers you know you love, but I wouldn't mind either way. I think it'll be too complicated to bring save files like that over and most people would want to start fresh anyway.

I love this idea, and I was thinking something similar, where files and data transfer to NH from NL. It would be so cool!
