Whether that be from a movie, event, or even an ugly breakup, what are some songs that you almost always associate with something else?

For me, it would have to be songs that were featured on the various Grand Theft Auto soundtracks, specifically from San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV. I played a lot of multiplayer on those games back in the day, and would consistently hear them on repeat when I entered vehicles. I've since associated some of those songs with those games specifically, and they bring back memories of a simpler and more enjoyable time.

There are so many! My brain associates a lot of popular songs with the era when I heard them the most. For example, I associate "Party in the USA" and "Evacuate the Dance Floor" with sixth grade because they were on the radio a lot when I was in sixth grade. If I thought long and hard about it, I could probably name 3-5 songs associated with each year of my life 😅

I always associate the song "Iris" by The Goo Goo Dolls with Resident Evil 4, because I was really obsessed with that song when I was in middle school and I remember listening to it while watching my brother play RE4

There are a few songs I associate with people that I'm no longer friends with, but because of that they make me uncomfortable and I don't really ever listen to them.

I thought this thread was a fever dream. I was searching all over for it.

But yes. My school bus driver always played country music and I can't hear certain songs without feeling like I'm back on that bus as a child.

I also associate Ed Sheeran with high school. It was always playing his music on the radio on the way home.

I have a ton of them lol

Probably the weirdest one is the fact that I associate the Man Who Sold the World by David Bowie with Antarctica/ the Subantarctic.
It feels like I’m passing by a remote and barren land but in a good way. When he says “and all the millions here” I imagine a huge penguin colony squawking faintly. Like the one on Zavodoski island.

I think it’s because my dad had this app in his phone that I loved playing with as a kid, where you could listen to radio stations from all around the world, including Antarctica. There was this one Antarctic station that played similar music I think. Not sure if they played that same song but it gives me those vibes.

Edit: I just found the station website! I love how they kept their old aesthetic, it’s so nostalgic hehe!

To be honest I associate almost every song to somethings xD

- Simple & Clean - Utada Hikaru (Kingdom Hearts): When I listen to it, I remember of the afternoons I used to spend with my best friend in his house, playing Kingdom Hearts and crying together when we finished it. My friends died when I was only 16 (now I'm 32), but I still get really emotional when I listen to this song
- Home Call - The Toxic Avenger (from Road 96): it gives me trip vibes, so everytime I listen to it, I imagine myself in a car, going somewhere in a desert road.
- Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus: 16 y/o me going with my MP3 player, earphones, walking to go to work
- MAREA - Madame: Everytime I listen to this song, I think about the vacation I made with my boyfriend and my sister one month before he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Life was already really hard, there was a lot happening, but somehow, after all what happened after that vacation, when I listen to that song, I remember that even if not good, it wasn't that bad, so I somehow miss that moments (especially because it was our first vacation after 3 years and it was with my sister)
- Sigla Rossana (italian Kodacha anime opening) - When I listen to it, I remember of the mornings I used to spend with my best friend on the bus (we were 15) pretending to sing and having a lot of fun
- Princess of China - Coldplay / Clarity - Zedd: When I listen to these 2 songs, I think a bout a day where I was with my cousin on the beach... It was sunset, there was a really really handsome guy with a red speedo in front of me (but that's another story 🥹) and it was desert... It was so calming and peacefull... We were listening to Clarity and watching the sunset, I felt happy and I realized that my relationship was really toxic and that I had to find the courage to end it. Princess of China was the song we listened a lot the same day in the car... I was really happy with my cousin when he was a kid, but after growing up, he changed and we lost our relationship.

I could go on forever, but I'll end it here xD

I always play music in the background when I'm browsing the internet, usually video game music. Sometimes I will accidentally start associating certain songs with whatever I was doing while listening to them.

There's also probably a lot of songs that I associate with road trips since I always had to listen to whatever my parents chose. I still do, but we have a lot less road trips now.

The few metal songs I listen to (ex: Wherever I May Roam) make me think of my dear love because they're crazy into that genre. 💜

Other than that, "Kalimba" by Mr. Scruff takes me back to when I used to play around with this old Windows 7 laptop, and "Love Together" by Nona Reeves makes me think of PaRappa the Rapper even when I'm listening to the original version and not the remix that plays in the anime adaptation. There's more, but those are the best ones I can think of right now.

I always associate Meteor Shower by Owl City, with the book Every Day by David Levithan. I think it's because I became obsessed with the song around that time I was reading that book, and made mini music videos in my head of characters in the story😭
