So my plan from the launch of ACNH was to use my second switch to start a new island after the game had expanded in a meaningful way. I'd have my launch island and my island after updates hit.

This obviously took longer than I was anticipating... But with the announcement of a ACNH direct, I feel confident a sizeable update is finally coming.

Should I start now to get through the intro campaign and nook expansion? Or wait until we actually know what is coming and start up when it's here? I'm hyped now and want to start now.... And also thinking about if new stuff ends up timegated. But then I got to thinking... I'm probably not the only one whose interest was reignited today. So I'm curious what you all would do!

The downside to starting now could be.... The update could be relatively minor, and my whole plan to play a new island on "version 2.0" doesn't happen... Because there is no 2.0 xD

Same here. But I would expect the direct to hit near the week of Oct 12th, so it’s not too far off to hear about the new content. Then you could decide!

That's true! I don't necessarily need to wait for the content to get here. Just knowing what it is would give me more to go off of on making a decision. If I start now it's at least two more months of what I'm used to from the game....

Hard to say without knowing what is coming, but I would probably start now to make sure I was caught up and had access to any new features as soon as they became available. I wouldn’t necessarily want to be spending time redoing old aspects of the game when there are new aspects to experience.

That's true as well. I could start now due to hype but just be casual about it until we know what's coming. Then decide whether to reinvest fully or not!

seeing the announcement made me want to restart too! so that's the plan for the week. wouldn't wanna be locked out of progression too much when the new content drops too, so there's also that to make the case for starting now

I'm all for restarting when you have the energy - or when you're not enjoying yourself. Goodness knows I've done it a few times. I say sleep on it tonight, and if you're still feeling the urge - do it in the morning! That way you have all day to work on the important things.

You need to have your museum fully upgraded with the Art gallery in order to get The Roost by the time it comes out.

I'd wait until the announcement at a minimum just to be sure, especially if you're picky about island planning. I know The Roost will be in the museum, but right now we don't know what else this update will include. If new buildings get added or Kapp'n gets added (you know, so we can FINALLY use the dock for something!), you may care about placement of things.

Don't get too excited about the possibility of those things though, as nothing other than The Roost is guaranteed right now.

I would wait. If it was me, I'd hate to be locked out of the new content because I'm playing through all the introductory content.

I would restart sooner rather than later. :)

Like someone else pointed out, the Museum will most likely need to be fully upgraded or at the very least upgraded from the tent. That process takes time. My plan is restart soon and keep things chill. Enjoy the beginning process because I find it be very fun and relaxing. The goal being to have my Museum up and running for the update, that way there is no stress of having to get it done quickly.

There could be other additions in the update. I would just be mindful of the dock location and size when you pick your new island, in case it becomes relevant. Personally, I find it highly unlikely we are getting more buildings, because so many people have completed islands at this point. There is still a chance though, so just keep that in mind and have some space available.

I would start immediately just go get past the introduction phase, but that’s just my opinion. If you feel more comfortable waiting for more information on an update, you can wait.

If you don't time travel do it now
The intro takes a few weeks and getting your island to the place where you can even use the cafe will take at least a month.
By the time you can do anything in the update, it will be out

I'd start now. Like others have mentioned, by the time you push through the introduction/tutorial, the Direct will be here. You can always put the game down after you're done, but it's a little less easy to speed through things.

The actual update is planned for November. That's still 2 months off.
I'd at least wait until after the direct when we know what the update entails.
Who knows? Maybe the updates is literally only Brewster and nothing else...

Well we know that's not the case, because the direct literally showed us Brewster "and more!" Plus there wouldn't be a direct for just the roost. But point taken we don't know what is coming!

Just as an update to this thread, I did start a second island a few days ago, because I remembered that it takes over a month to get to the current nook's cranny upgrade. Obviously no clue if it upgrades more, but if it does, I want to be as up to date there as I can. It's been fun reexperiencing the beginning days anyway!
