I observed the first game. It was pretty interesting, and I'm pretty sure I picked up on how not to behave if you don't want to be deemed "suspicious". lol

Until you've played as both Town and Mafia, it's very hard to truly understand how to play as/against each side.

No, anyone can be elected, including blues and Mafia. Players with special roles will retain their role in addition to their mayoral/sheriff duties.

True, never thought about that. I guess we shall see how this round will turn out, then.
Though, I'm guessing it'd help to examine the last game a few times.. then maybe you could pick up basic understanding of the game or something.
