In simple, just look up the theme, character backstorys, in general the theme's story before the game starts and go off of that. If you'd like to get fancy with everything, i'd reccomend you go to the museum shop and buy some banners for it.

Oh no no. I meant how to write flavor text before the phases end. I'd like to have everything well written so I'm not writing them 5 minutes before phase.

In all honesty thats just what I do, write the flavor text 5 minutes before because i'm lazy as hell to go and write flavor for every character that would die.

But alas, i've only hosted 3 games not counting SS3's, and all of the flavor text in them is super sloppy. The flavor text in smash mafia just doesn't really give me any smash vibes from it tbh.

Xenoblade is very character/plot driven. So i want to make the text very similar to how the story would go, especially at the point in the game the mafia game will take place in.

Raise your hand if you know who shulk was before Sm4sh

Congratulations your japanese

I got help for balancing my game. It'll need 24 players for the full experience, but it can acomedate fewer players. I can made ads if anything + the newbies from the nub game might join. Still a longs way away from my turn to host though. But I can assure you the set up is fun.

Any advice on writing flavor text/Role pms before the game starts?

Do them early. It's really stressful to try and smash out all of the role PMs if you want good flavour. GoT mafia was lacking in that aspect because I waited until the last minute to finalise everything. I feel like the flavour in my bioshock mafia was pretty good, so if you want a jumping off point on how to include role types heavily involving the story of your theme.

I used an open set up because I really want it to be flavour heavy and put characters as roles that would most closely align to them as I saw fit. I enjoy a good story and a well formatted first post. Try to keep everything clear and make use of the coding that you can do on the forums.

I also like doing role PMs with a small photo of the character so it looks kind of cool. Example:

G2Tzvcu.png
Lord Varys (Kingmaker)
You are the spider, master of whispers. Other see you as a self-serving eunuch, but truly you serve the realm. Everything you do strives for the betterment of the realm and those in it. With your knowledge of secrets, you have the intuition on who would succeed as king. You may PM the host each day to crown a player king for the day. You may not crown yourself. You may not crown a hero that has been outed in the thread as the hero. You may crown the same player twice in a row.
Your win condition is: Eliminate all of the mafia trying to steal the throne for themselves.

It gets more condensed in a role PM, but yeah you get the idea. I think Tina was the first one to do it on TBT.

All in all, have a few word documents because the coding does make it get quite extensive when you're writing out full PMs. I usually have one for town, one for mafia and one for my main post. And I can't stress this enough:

Double, triple, quadruple check everything. Don't accidentally reveal the mafia or PM the wrong thing.

I'd also like to stress another point and not just at you, but at everyone looking to host:

You need to post minimally in a game after it starts. I mean just answering green text questions and posting the day/night posts and that is it. By posting in the game, your words as the host can be interpreted in any way. Don't give town or mafia a possible edge by misspeaking or posting too much information. You have to keep your hosting somewhat "professional" or you skew your own game.

Thank you Minties, that helps.

I was looking at your game. I may not do an open set up, because I think I added unusual roles and I'd rather they be kept shrouded in mystery. Also looking to put unique role names for every player, not just the power roles. But thank you! I'll start writing everything out now so I can just randomize the roles and start as quickly as possible when it's my time. My hopes are just that I can get around 24 active players, or else I'll have to drop a few roles I really wanted to incorparate in the game.

Need to learn how to do all that extra coding now.

I was hoping to do an Okami game at some point too, but the characters just wouldn't fit any of the common roles in this game. Maybe I'll do a kingmaker for that theme, but who knows.

Actually...looking at these roles, I think it would count as experimental.
Tom, can I move my game to be experimental, but still have the same time slot?

Oh, just realised that we have to specify on other details for the experimental games. Korean War mafia will have items and a currency system, voting is anonymous(PMed in), and not all players will have votes. Vote tallies will not be revealed

Still waking up, but I don't think that was required tbh but I can add it in anyways!

This is part of the reason why I had an hour wait in Kissing to be Clever between final actions/votes coming in and the Day/Night posts being made. Made everything a lot less stressful.

Yo Tom, take Smash mafia off the queue. I did the math, i'm going to be at summer camp by the time its my turn to host.
