Alternate title: Why I love Rod so goddang much I could cry.

As far as villager species go, we don't see too many mice on people's islands or dreamie lists. In my opinion, there are just as many bad mice as there are good ones; I understand why not many people are fond of them. But it's because there are gold nuggets among the iron ones that I am eager to share my love for this underrated villager type! Case in point: Rod, the pirate/jock mouse!

Rod is just the most loveable little mouse friend! I have him on both my secondary New Horizons island and New Leaf town. His allure was so strong that I just had to have him, even if I didn't have space on my main games. I don't have his amiibo card (yet), so I had to obtain the lad in different ways. I was lucky to find him early on in my campsite in New Leaf—my day was instantly made when I ducked into the tent and saw this wonderful boy inside.



Many of us in the Animal Crossing fandom have villager favorites in common, since those animals are the ones we see the most on social media and in game. But what about the villagers who blend into the background, but have appealing designs all the same?

Even as bright and purple as Rod is, he still gets overlooked. Despite this, Nintendo hasn't given up on him! Rod may not be popular in game, but his design, much like another cute videogame rodent, has a poster child quality to it—so much so that he's right there on the New Horizons box art! Granted, he's still in the background, but I didn't miss him!

OMG. He's beautiful!

Look at how he's reclined in that beach chair. He's having a good heckin' time! He's basking in the sun of a new day and totally in touch with himself. He looks so comfortable and happy. Man, we should all aspire to be like Rod.

But for real, Rod is super cute with his big eyes and even bigger smile and those big, round ears! I love him to pieces. He's up there in my top favorite villagers, and he is most certainly my favorite of all the mice—and he's not the only mouse villager deserving of all the love and attention. My other favorites include Bree and Dora. Bettina is super cute too, and I'm also beginning to love Bella, though she did scare me at first.

Who's your favorite mouse and why? Let's work on bringing awareness to this underrated villager type!

your love for the mice is honestly really nice to see! you’re right; there’s definitely some cute ones and it’s sad that they get overlooked. anywho, while the mice aren’t my favourite, i love chadder! the concept of a cheese-themed mouse is honestly just,, incredible to me and while i’m usually not fond of the smug villagers in general, he’s one of my favourites and i really enjoyed having him in new leaf!

rod, greta, bree and bella are also super cute, though! and while she’s no longer in the game, i’m quite fond of the mouse version of carmen; she was so, so adorable and i’d love for her to come back one day! :’^)

Rod, my all-time fave mouse villager. No one else comes close. Ever.

I had him in New Leaf. I had him in New Horizons as my starting villager but I had to let him go because I'm not happy with his interior. He's definitely going back to my island this January as a permanent villager.

The mouse I have on my island currently is Rizzo and I wouldn't say he's my favorite but he's a funny character. I gave him the purple ninja outfit compared to his blue which looks better since now he matches, lol. I definitely have made him a bit creepy in my little group shots I've taken.

I'm not gonna keep him though even though I really like his facial expressions. I would like Rod though because he fits my island vibe and also I like jock villagers a lot.

Samson just moved to my island so I feel like I should chose him. But I'd love to get Chadder one day I love his design.

Chadder all the way!! The second I saw Chadder and his adorable cheese self I just had to have him!
I am not a fan of the smug personality trait, but I don’t mind it at all when it’s Chadder. He’s adorable no matter what.
The only thing is I wish his house was something other than a bathroom

Why hasn’t Bettina gotten many votes? She’s a sous chef mouse! That’s awesome! She and Rod are tied for my favorite mouse villager.

Ah, this is hard. It would have to be between Bree, Anicotti, and Chadder for me.

Mice are so underrated, I’ve even consider starting an island with just them on it. They are so cute lol!

It's kinda a tie for me between Rod and Bree, which I do like both the most, mainly because of their design.

Rod! He's a little pirate mouse! He reminds me so much of Niko from the Wind Waker, my absolute favorite LoZ game! They could very well be brothers! Whenever I see Rod, I am reminded of my love for that game, and I adore him for that. Makes me wish I had named my island Outset and themed it around Wind Waker. If only there were more pirate villagers!

I like Rod, too! His design is very endearing. I also voted for Samson, as he was one of my first ever villagers (and I got him to say a naughty word as his catchphrase, which sounded so silly in the WW soundfont that I still remember it), and Penelope because my little sister had her in her NL town, and would always tell me how much she annoyed her

I've actually never had a mouse in any of my games. I took a quick look at their designs though and I definitely think Bree is cutest. Second would probably be Rod. I hadn't noticed him in the New Horizons promo graphic. Cool catch!

I love Moose. Those sideburns and that wicked little eyebrow. So good.

I had to choose Rod and Chadder. Rod is adorably cute. His design is more easy on the eyes than other mice villagers. I also chose Chadder because of his cheese theme and was a really good candidate for a food themed town that I was thinking about making. Its a shame that Rizzo was grouped with Limburg...Rizzo was an old villager who moved out of my NL town. I liked how his design was modeled after a Japanese bandit.

I like Bree, Bettina, and Dora. The only mouse I've ever had in any game is Bree, though, so she got my vote in the poll.

I’m torn between Rod and Bree. I always thought Rod is cute due to his design. His color scheme is aesthetically pleasing and he has a very happy facial expression that made him very lovable. Bree is also very pretty, again due to her design. To be quite honest they are probably the only mouse villagers i'm willing to take on my island as mouse in general is not my favorite species (probably much like a lot of people)

The only reason I don't have Bree and Rod on my island as my snooty and jock is since I had them for several years (and last I checked still do!) on my NL save. I wanted to mix things up for NH and not get the same roster as I had in NL. Except for Pietro.

Mice are severely underrated though. I do hope eventually one of them rotates on to my island. Bella and Bettina are ones I've had an interest in for a while. I kind of want to try out Bella as my peppy. She is so different from all the other peppies.​

Lol, I was gonna say "IDK why, but I've always been fond of Rod"... but I see that seems to be the consensus so far- I didn't need the first post to convince me, I just think he's cute I also love the idea of a jock mouse.

I played Wind Waker, too! Ahhhh, I didn't even realize it until you pointed it out! They got the same bandanda and even the same whiskers! They are a perfect duo. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

I'm sorry I grouped them together like that. They're the only cranky mice and I didn't have enough room! Both of them deserve their own slots, but it is how it is! I'm glad to see some love for Rizzo!
