The Differences Between Facts and Opinions

The statement is quite true and positive, I like that, but I don't think you are not going to convince either party at the end of the day. The part on New Horizons being more fun is a great example of an opinion and respectable at that, it can be true or false depending on the player. One can enjoy the game and the other can not, it is a completely subjective matter.

Now, about the content or dialogue, I must say that's not an opinion but a fact. If it has numbers, it's a fact. I can't speak on dialogue since I don't have direct data, but after people denied that New Horizons has less furniture, I went to check on myself because I got curious. If I'm not wrong and going from the wiki, New Horizons has exactly 1,107 furniture items right now + 1252 clothing items whereas New Leaf has 5305 items in total. (Without counting variations in both, which is the same model/item. Please correct me if I'm wrong!) If that is the case, the number is quite contrasting. It would be a fact. But not a fact that can stay true for so long because New Horizon is constantly updating, and I'm sure soon to leave NL behind.

Nevertheless and while I can see why some love it and some hate it, I hope we do come to a point where both sides learn to love the game. I do greatly believe in this title and think it will surpass New Leaf as soon as Nintendo wants it to. The datamine itself hinted at 5000 new items and that alone is enough to surpass NL greatly, that's without counting the new mechanics and gameplay they might have in store. When the game has the cafeteria people so much ask for, new store upgrades and new furniture, will people stop hating it and grow to love it? I don't know, but I'm curious to see what's in the future for this game and its community and that's exciting 😊

Yeah NL definitely has more furniture for sure as of right now (some of which I would like to return)! I think the more "opinion" side of things comes from the overall package, and which game contains more features or more to do :) I feel like that part really comes down to what you're into and what you're trying to get from playing Animal Crossing.

I'm quite curious about your totals. I've not updated my thread about furniture with the Festivale update, but here are the totals before:

FurnitureNew HorizonsNew LeafDifference
Launch10261271-245
Updates84493-409
Total11101764-654

Bear in mind other little facts like how both games have "tricky" objects like NH having the Pond Stone, Maple and Cherry Blossom Stones (which I think are new?) counting as three separate items and NL having 3 different cones and lucky cats counting as six separate items (which on NH count as only two because they are color variations).

There's also the point that unless I'm mistaken, some custom options on NH do change the model but are not counted as separate items. For example, the Leaf Campfire gets roasted marshmallows on a variation and the clay thing gets a dinosaur or a cake depending on the variation you pick. In my humble opinion, those items should totally count on its own because the differences are big enough, but since I don't have access to an easy to browse complete catalog of NL variations, I can't compare both fairly. I think NL variations were mostly just colors and patterns, but I can't say for sure.

Other items totals are (before the Festivale):

PWP/similar
NH: 37
NL: 87

Home Interior (Wallpaper/Flooring/Rugs)
NH: 582
NL: 321

Clothing (in order: Tops/Bottoms/Dress/Hats/Shoes/Accessories/Socks/Backpack/Total)
NH: 292+144+249+226+91+78+61+47 = 1,188
NL: 491+127+107+240+71+58+40+0 = 1,134

I don't know about the 5k total of NL you mentioned as the numbers above don't add to it. Searching moridb on any category brings me a total of 4,054 items, including critters/stationery/gyroids/tools/etc. Just curious in case I need to update my thread with more accurate info, so any help would be appreciated :D

Number-wise, NH has the edge on almost all categories of clothing (except tops, where NL had the same item with the different sleeve lenght count as different items a lot), home interior design (where NH benefits from color variations), fish, bugs, sea creatures, art, etc. On the other hand, NL instead has furniture, gyroids, PWP, etc. But with the constant "opinion" of how NH lacks content, you'd think NL had the biggest count of almost all categories when it's not.

But like others on the thread have said, some people have "opinions" that won't change and welp, nothing to do.

Don't like New Horizons? Stop playing. Especially if you think it'll never amount to the level of New Leaf. This isn't a new concept when it comes to sequels. I see people do this with Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Metroid, Kirby Super Star, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Some reasons are legitimate while some are just silly.

I don’t know how nerdy this makes me, but I really really love and am here for these number crunching, data reviewing posts.

as I said above, you can feel about the facts however you want. But I love to see the actual data.

Holy smokes, I commend you and just about anyone who is willing to go through that much research! 😂

The key takeaway here is to respect others.

Sometimes people are getting too personal with their opinions. It rubs off negatively to others. You need to phrase your statements constructively. Whenever you're making a claim, please ensure that you have facts to back it up. I am always in for a good and healthy discussion.
