Christmas...
Ugh this is really getting on my nerves now

I don't get it. It's a big thing in America, but why? Why do people start setting up decorations like 3 months early? I need an answer

hmm lol, as an American who loves Hallowee n, I never really questioned why I like it so much. It's something most of us grew up with as a kid because dressing up and getting free candy is fun. But as I turned into an adult I still looked forward to dressing up every year with my friends because I like doing makeup and seeing what other creative and fun costumes people think of (and partying). I don't see what's not to like. :p

I honestly don't know the meaning behind it, and I haven't done trick-or-treating since I was very little, so I don't really care about it :p but I do love the candy! I'm not sure if Halloween is on a school day or not, but if it is I'll probably get free candy at school!

I live in America, and it bothers me so much when I see Hallowee n decorations already up and it was already September 1st. also, my family believes that it is an evil holiday so I was never allowed to go trick or treating (my first time was last year, sad I know). My mom let me dress up in grades 1-3, because I guess she thought that if I was the only kid not dressed up I would get made fun of.

I have to explain to her that it's not evil and she won't budge :( but I'll definitely let my kids have the childhood I never did lmao

Yeah, a person in my class said he doesn't celebrate Hālloween because it's evil and it's the Devils birthday...
which is completely false it is in fact a holiday that originated in Ireland, the people there believed that evil spirits came on that day so they would use "scary" items to keep them away. I'm pretty sure that's correct. So the holiday isn't evil but it's about evil things, but it's not like people celebrate and welcome evil spirits on that day, so it's really not evil. Calling Hālloween evil is the equivalent of calling the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead evil.

I don't like trick or treating but I do like the feel of Hālloween and all the decorations (and candy). But seriously why would anyone put decorations up even at the beginning of September.

I think the ideology behind it is really interesting, actually.

People used to dress up as scary things in an attempt to scare away evil spirits, and presumably decorations like carved pumpkins served the same purpose.

The history is quite interesting, as already said. People should definitely check out turnip lanterns.
It's just a nice tradition in America and people just love to get excited for things and share their passion.

I love Halloween, it's a shame that I've missed the past two years, and will miss this one as well due to my job.

I can't speak for everyone but I think I love it so much because it embodies all the things I love.
I love spooky things, and scary movies, and snakes and bats and "creepy crawlies."
It's also an opportunity to let my weirdness out in a way that wont make people look at me strangely.
Also like 90% of my decorations are just things I have out in my room and I just pull them out into the house because they become acceptable. XD

I think it's a prank done by the mods. I remember before the filter, they were obsessed with cancelling events. I think this is the new "event is cancelled".

"If the holiday doesn't exist we don't have to do an event for it! Perfect!" -Mods

I don't notice much enthusiasm for it around where I live, hardly anyone actually decorates beyond maybe a few jack o lanterns, and I definitely don't see anyone setting up early. It's actually been years since my neighborhood had any trick or treaters. Which is fine w me, saves me the trouble of figuring out how much candy to give. It doesn't bother me to see people get extremely festive over any holiday though really, but the only reason I like Halloween is because of all the horror movies that play on TV during the season.

I seriously miss having Chiller, because they would do marathons after marathon of themed movies and I wouldn't even move from that channel all October long. <3

I've never heard of that channel, now I want it! lol October definitely sees the most TV-usage from me, like no contest..

p.s. I love your line-up sm

*grumble* *grumble* holidays are just a marketing ploy designed to make money from consumers.

i'm not too bothered by it. i love getting festive and it's cute to see everyone getting into the spirit. spooky time is a pretty casual holiday that's just kinda fun. dressing up and hanging out with your friends. it's nice and cute. holidays are great for tossing aside ur responsibilities to have some fun before it's back to boring ol' weekdays.

Oooookkkkk I think I now get why everyone celebrates it in america

Still don't think I'll be celebrating it any time soon lmao

Yeah when I had it they did like a different theme everyday, so for a full day they'd play all zombie movies, for a full day all werewolf movies, full day vampires, etc etc etc. Although a lot of them were really cheesy I honestly LOVE cheesy horror movies so it was amazing. If you've never seen "The Mad" with Billy Zane, go find it and watch it immediately. I also loved "Ahh! Zombies" and like every other cheesy movie, zombie movies are my fave. <3

i don't know how it became popular but i like H?lloween because i grew up with it. i loooved decorating and carving pumpkins, baking pumpkin pie, trick-or-treating, and dressing up. also i did these activities at school and with my amazing friends so it holds a special place in my heart

not sure about 3 months in advance, the earliest i've seen people put up H?lloween decorations is september. i encounter homes where families mix their autumn and H?lloween decorations

yeah we don't start pulling stuff out until September, and my mom usually starts with the "autumn" stuff, and then we leave out that stuff through Halloween and up until we start bringing out the Christmas stuff. The autumn stuff that is. We take down Halloween before thanksgiving.
