Fall and winter are my favorite seasons with my 3 favorite holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, plus my birthday!). I love the way the air smells like a campfire and it's so crisp and cold outside with the leaves changing. Not to mention you get to bundle up with sweaters and cozy socks. I love lighting candles that smell like apple pie or pine trees and making some herbal tea or apple cider. What are some things you do to get into the holiday mood? Decorate? Recipes? Movies? Tell, tell!

The only holiday I like is Halloween, and because I have a night class Tuesdays, I missed out and had no excitement about it.

Otherwise, I tend to find the holidays depressing. My family is very much divided due to petty drama, disagreements in many areas, etc. So my family doesn't keep in touch, and it's depressing every holiday where everyone is forced to pretend we like each other and then go on to not talk at all for an entire year.
I want to love the holidays and share in the magic of them, but I just can't and it's so sad and disappointing.
I try to get in the mood by keeping my favorite candle scents around and enjoy warm drinks and reading books while watching it snow though.

Sorry for dropping such a miserable post on your otherwise happy thread. /is having a bad day

I know you're still very young but my best advice to you is....get out of your toxic family as soon as you can.
I know its easy to say it than to do it but I hope this post will modivate you to get yourself out of that emotional abusive household.
Are you in high school?

Are you speaking to me?
I'm nearly 32 and in college. I wouldn't say my family is what I'd call toxic, more that anyone outside my mom/dad/sister/occasionally aunt never want anything to do with us all year except for the holidays. Then we all get together, pretend to be a family, and not speak anymore. My part of the family tends to avoid the drama that goes on with our cousins as much as we can. We don't hate most of them, but they make no efforts to be close to us, so we don't bother.

Ah I see. I'm glad there no actual serious bs going on in your family. Keep on making the best of it!

I like this time of the year for the same reasons, though it's mostly for Halloween and my birthday, both of which have passed. I do like Christmas, but I hate the typical tacky junk that's everywhere 24/7 starting mid-November. When I'm at home though, I'm always happy. I like to keep my apartment fairly cold (even though I don't pay for gas) so that candles and blankets can make a spot super cozy. I also like to watch the Peanuts holidays specials, but not on TV. They're more about nostalgia and good memories than anything else now.

I'd say that's how most families are. Plus things could be worse, of course. Just enjoy the time you spend with the family that does enjoy spending time with you/each other. The rest don't matter if they don't care. Also, if you don't want to spend time with family because it makes you depressed you could always spend time with friends.

I live in Florida, so it's pretty much just summer still with a cooler breeze during fall/winter. I like to blast the air conditioning and put on a pumpkin candle lol.

I got really into the Halloween season this year though by dressing up as a witch/going to a great Halloween party, watching lots of Over the Garden Wall/scary movies, buying all of the Halloween Pusheen minis, buying a cinnamon broom, carving pumpkins, going to a family farm with a pumpkin patch/hayride, and going trick or treating with my baby cousin. It was honestly a blast. Last year I was stuck doing a physics exam all day on Halloween.

I'm hoping Thanksgiving and Christmas will be as great as Halloween was! And no, I'm not celebrating Christmas yet. I'm still waiting to make dat pumpkin pie and eat plenty of mashed potatoes.

Thankfully, my family is held together, but loosely.
We all meet at my Aunt's house for the usual holidays, though Christmas and Halloween isnt that exciting. Can't blame them.

But what I AM excited for is Black Friday which is in another 3 weeks, where I my mom is going to buy me a nintendo switch (hopefully with Splatoon 2)

It makes me all jittery just thinking about it. And time flies by for me.

SO HYPED!

Hey no problem with sharing the woes of the holidays too! I can get a bit depressed during this time as well, that's why doing the simplest things like lighting a candle or making some cookies can help you feel better. My family is in sections and we basically have 2 separate Christmas's to keep the peace, lol. But never stop wanting to share the experience with them, I try my best to make everyone feel happy around this time, I'm essentially the mediator in my family.

I'm exactly the same way! I like being in my own world at home with my good smells and my cozy blankets, lol. Same with the peanuts specials and also the stop-motion Christmas movies from the 60's and 70's with Rudolf and Santa, all for the nostalgia of course.

I actually live in Florida too! But my family lives in Virginia and I usually visit for Thanksgiving and always for Christmas. So far October has been fairly chilly here, surprisingly and my house is ALWAYS freezing cold so that helps a lot.

Your October sounded so pleasant! I'm far too old to go out for Halloween.. I wish I had a young relative I could take trick or treating, lol.

I feel like I'll be as excited about the holidays as I was as a kid when I have kids of my own, you pretty much get to relive everything over again.

Holy crap I forgot about Black Friday! Also don't forget about Cyber Monday! I think I'll nab myself a nintendo switch this year too, or the SNES Mini (which I doubt I'll have any luck finding.......)

My friends/coworkers and I are really into miniatures right now... like making tiny houses. We usually do secret santa for X-mas (more like late new years though) so I want to suggest we do one but for miniatures this year lmao. How cute would it be to get a tiny book or mugs for our tiny house this year?! ahhhh lol.

I wish I could celebrate the Autumn weather during the Christmas Seasons.
In Australia most of us will head the beach + bbq. Temperature is around 40~50 (100~120) degree Celsius or more+
So envious. Halloween also isn't big here. Like @Spooky. I had work then night classes on Halloween. zzzzz

Ohhh my god I'm obsessed with miniatures! You should totally suggest it and wrap the gifts with tiny wrapping paper and a tiny bow! There's a a few youtubers that I adore watching in which they just build tiny houses and furniture. One of them is HMS2 and the other is The Square to Spare. Square to spare made a haunted miniature house for halloween!

That's so interesting, a Christmas BBQ! Florida is hot year round but no where near THAT hot, jeez! That's why my house temperature needs to be freezing cold at all times. And yeah, that's typically a halloween for adults :'(. Unless it's a weekend which almost never happens.

Ah I've seen those channels before, thanks for reminding me to check them out! I used to be more of a collector (re-ment and such) than a maker but this time round I want to try making everything inside too! I'm totally going to suggest we wrap them in tiny little wrapping papers omg.

i love the holiday season. nothing really gets me into the mood anymore though.. maybe cuz im depressed but i still love the time of year nonetheless. i get so excited seeing fall/halloween themed things pop up in stores like bath&body works and stuff. i love going to my aunt's house every other year for thanksgiving, too. certain type of music too makes me feel happy during this time of year.
cooler air in general also makes me anticipate the holidays. in florida there's no change of season and all that happens is that it gets a bit colder and drier, so when it gets cold i feel like the holidays are just a blink away.
i think mostly what gets me excited is when i finally get time off of school.

my dad used to cut down our christmas tree in the backyard with us but i don't know what me and my mom will do this year. probably just put the fake tree back up from last year. as much as i want a real tree its not allowed in the apartment building we're at atm. my mom likes to make cookies but i hate it its so messy. i only like decorating them. tbh i dont really do much for christmas as im getting older besides pretend to have a ton of holiday spirit and wear christmas sweaters. idk i like halloween better

oh i also watching barbie and the nut cracker and sledding and skiing is fun lol thats it tho

The morning of November first I made pumpkin pancakes while listening to Christmas songs. I already have a list of potential gifts to get for people and keep adding to it. I love Halloween the most but Christmas is a close second.

Hehe, welcome! I love rements too, but I don't own any tiny things like that, I just observe TT_TT. You can also make a tiny christmas tree!

Yessss bath&body works has the BEST seasonal scents, I just love smells, lol. Yeah the weather here in florida makes me want to visit home already so I can hear the crunching of leaves when I walk and wear a scarf and gloves. And is it me or are the holiday breaks from school getting shorter?!

I love the smell of a real pine tree but its also so messy x_x. Investing in one of those fake trees that already has the lights on it is a life saver, just bring it out every year and hang up ornaments. And my mom also makes cookies!! The plain sugar cookies to decorate with frosting, quite messy indeed...

(P.S. Can't believe you mentioned barbie and the nut cracker, I still think that movie is so good, lol.)

Now that's how I want to be, planning from day one, lol. Pumpkin pancakes sounds like a dream. And you literally just reminded me to start making lists for gifts!!!
