The "I learned something new today!" Thread

Some people claim Pepcid AC helps with PMDD because it blocks histamines. Didn’t know that was at play in PMDD.

TIL that, while most of the library systems in our consortium do still support Hoopla, the one system that is perhaps the largest in the consortium no longer does. so patrons cannot sign up for Hoopla with a card from that library system.

I wonder why they discontinued it? probably to cut back on costs rip.

Lisa Vanderpump is her real name. Idk why but it sounds like a drag name. Like I could totally see a House of Vanderpump. (But it’s a stage name, in this case.)

TIL that the beanie baby named Runner is perhaps the only one that actually has two different tag poems. there's one that's normal, and then there's one that's... unnecessarily cruel 😅

if you want to read it, I'll put it in a spoiler below:

Not necessarily a today thing, but sometimes, depending on the recipe you can use apple sauce or even chia seeds as a replacement to an egg. I personally think eggs are more nutritious though.
I'd love to try this for myself, especially with the cost of eggs rising astronomically and showing no signs of stopping.

Chia seeds are a bit more pricey, but unsweetened apple sauce as a substitute sounds interesting and inexpensive enough. I curiously looked it up, and you can also use mashed banana. They're on the inexpensive side to. Though, it may make everything have a banana flavor lol.

Donkey Kong's name comes from the devs wanting to convey the fact that he's stubborn like a Donkey to english speakers. I always wondered why "Donkey" since he's very clearly an ape and not a hybrid, haha.

I've never actually questioned why he's called Donkey... and now I'm feeling like maybe I should've been, lol. This was a fun fact to read!!

the company name THX is actually an acronym which stands for "Tomlinson Holman Experiment". Holman was a founder of the company, along with George Lucas.

also, the sound accompanying the THX logo is called the "deep note", and it was composed by Dr. James A. Moore. he originally composed it so that 30 randomly generated notes would eventually merge into one harmonious chord, meaning that every time the audio track played, it would be slightly different.

also also, fun fact, hearing the "deep note" still scares me to this day 😂 I made a post about this elsewhere not long ago.

Nintendo worked with a company called "Worlds of Wonder" to get the NES on the market when retailers were against selling video games following the 1983 crash. Basically, shops that sold Teddy Ruxpin (which was very popular at the time) had to have an NES as well, or else.

There’s a live action how to train your dragon film coming out this year ^u^

I read that constant burping and farting can be a sign of depression…but Idk how true that is.

Obviously, a lot of gay male relationships were accepted in ancient Rome, but two women in love were looked down upon. Women were expected to be “modest”, and for whatever reason, bi and lesbian women went against this expectation.

This is based on what I’ve read so far. There probably were Romans who were more accepting of lesbian couples, but I haven’t found any in writing.
