Hello TBT Staff,

I have a question regarding the new “Looking For” thread within the New Neighbor Network for NH villager trades.

How is forcing all the “Looking For” threads into one thread supposed to make the volume of responses more organized? I’ve posted in it numerous times and I feel like my posts always get lost because of how many people are looking for villagers.

Personally, I would make it a sub-forum so that I could see everything more clearly. Does that make sense?

I’m not trying to tell you how to run your site, though. I’m sure people give you suggestions all the time and I want to be clear that I’m not trying to be rude about it. I understand that it’s probably difficult to be part of the staff right now because of the NH traffic. I love this site and the update. I just wanted to voice an opinion and ask a question.

Thanks!

I've felt this way ever since it was introduced in the new leaf villager trading plaza board. it just feels a bit unorganised honestly.
fully support your sub-forum idea, I never actually thought of that solution before but it makes the most sense because you get the best of both worlds imo. ie it doesn't spam the main board but also gives people a much higher chance of being seen looking for villagers

I understand your plight! The main “looking for” threads were made to condense all the others into one thread to keep the over-flow of “looking for” threads to a minimum. When NL came out, we had pages upon pages of “looking for” threads that never received replies. It was awful! It was shoving giveaways, trades, and sales to the bottom of the pile because people were frantically posting who they needed. In my opinion, even making a sub forum wouldn’t help due to the sheer number of people (especially this time around) looking for certain villagers.

For me personally, I love seeing people’s dreamies in their signature and randomly gifting people their dreamie if I happen upon them! I know several other members do this too so make sure you include who you need in your signature!

I get where you’re coming from, but I still think that a sub-forum would be better than a single thread. Personally, I find threads to be overwhelming if they have that number of responses. I know that a sub-forum would be just as crowded, but the separation of each request would be easier to read. Perhaps a modified bumping rule could help prevent things from getting lost too quickly? I’m not an expert, but I have ideas.

I did take your advice and finally made a signature for myself (although it’s not very flashy, it gets my point across). I’ll probably make it pretty later.

I think the thread is best. But I always see buying threads anyway so I'm nor sure it matters. Maybe for the unpopular villagers threads are okay but.. no one is going to respond to your "Looking For Raymond" thread. I rarely see responses to those theeads. Because ig someones willing to trade Raymond or a popular villager, they're going to make their own thread to sell.

So in the end, both are useless.

considering there's 20 posts per thread page and 20 threads per board page i don't see a whole new board being something that's either necessary nor something that'd make much of a difference clutter-wise, especially seeing people have gotten offers several pages after their initial post.

imo what's causing most of the chaos is so many people posting that they're looking for popular villagers which are far more likely to get their own selling thread rather than a response, hence those comments just end up being reposted over and over. i'm sure this would translate over to a new board and instead of solving anything there'd just be 12 pages of "looking for raymond/marshal"

I actually think it’s an useful thread. I use the “looking for” thread to search for a villager name when I have them in boxes and message people who want them. It’s quicker than it would be to search for them in a forum mixed with FT offers of the same villagers.

Wanted to pop in with a tip that helps navigate the sea of responses in the Looking For thread.

I'm soooo used to vbulletin and reddit so it took me a few minutes to realize how to search on TBT's new platform.

If you have a specific villager you know is moving out:
  1. click on the 'Looking For' thread and hit the search tab on the upper right of the forums
  2. instead of everywhere, select 'This Thread'
  3. type in the name of the villager you have to giveaway and hit search
You'll see all the posts of users who have mentioned they are looking for that villager and can go from there. :)

personally I think the looking for thread serves an important purpose. I really do not like seeing the villager trading section getting flooded with "looking for" posts because as people already mentioned, it pushes all the selling and giveaway threads down. The way I see it there is hardly a point to post that you're looking for a villager anyway, because if someone had it available and was looking to take the time to trade/sell/give it away, they would probably just post a thread offering it in the new neighbor network..
