Considering this isn't the first April Fools event to be notification-heavy I think it'd be a good idea to opt out of April Fools altogether. I know a few people who kinda struggle with April Fools on different sites 'cause it's either overwhelming with all the visual stimulation/disorientation and/or hard for them to discern jokes from sincerity so it might be worth looking into

Or to just opt out of all event-theming, so event-specific reactions and visuals like splattered posts would be turned off. I remember space camp initially had its own colourful site theme that for me was very eyestraining since I have pretty sensitive eyes, especially with screens, but thankfully Jeremy made it optional.

Definitely agree with you! It’s so much chaos sometimes.

First time posting feedback about the site here. Ok, I use mobile more than the desktop version. I know its not a problem with internet because I use multiple wifis. Anyway, my issue is that sometimes I "double post" but I know I didn't intentionally double post. I hit the "Post reply" button only once but it ends up double posting anyway. I don't know if its a server issue or an internet issue but it has bugged me a little now with editing out the automerges.

This happens to me with lag on mobile. I’m actually thankful for the auto-merge. It makes it easier to edit out when I didn’t mean to double post.

I feel like I remember, during the April Fools event in 2023, that the mining react was strictly limited to the event boards, and couldn't be used anywhere else. I wish this event was more like that. I mentioned to another user that the reacts used during this event came across as spammy, because people were just reacting to the most random posts and it got kind of annoying.

I didn't want to have to turn off notifications just to make them stop because I feel like I've missed some important notifications in an ocean of what is essentially spam. I don't mean to be disheartening and I know it was all in fun (I prob would've enjoyed it a lot more if I didn't have surgery the same day oops). I just wanted to give my personal feedback.

also, if the spammed reacts could be removed from the non-event boards that would be really great.

I was kinda surprised it wasn’t limited to event boards . It was weird seeing so many of my past posts and profile comments hit with ice cream. I loved the event but since not everyone wanted to participate it would probably be a good idea to limit it just to event posts . It would make it easier to see who was and was not participating.

I was very shocked myself it wasn’t limited to event boards. Strawberries figured out rather quickly I had a butt-load of posts in the “Quick, Before The Mods Come” thread and targeted my posts in there going as far back as a few months. It was a good strategy, though, I’ll give them that.

It would’ve been interesting to see the results had it been limited to event boards. I’m not sure we would’ve had a different outcome, but the numbers would’ve been different, for sure.

If the reactions had been restricted to event boards, I can very easily see people spamming one-worded posts just because the reaction fodder would be limited if you stuck to normal posting rules.

The spam would be more contained, but with how unstable the servers have been lately, I worry if the site could have handled it, since it was struggling so much with just the normal traffic and reactions.

Although I hope that the ice cream reacts stay on posts as a fun memory, I noticed many people upset that they missed notifications. I probably missed some myself, but I just don't have it in me to look through 1000+ notifs

In regard to potential opt outs, I’ll be honest and say I don’t think that’s something we’re likely to do — this event ran for a total of 32 hours. I understand some will disagree with me, and that’s fine, but I personally don’t see it as a big problem if the forum is in chaos for 32 hours out of the entire year. (although we did joke in planning about what if they announced a new Animal Crossing during the Direct and a flood of new users came online to see ice cream…) The example of the Space Camp theme is a different situation where we know that it will be in place for weeks.

That being said, I hear you guys about limiting the event reacts to only the temporary board. I was the one who setup the reaction code for this event, so I’ll own up to that. In hindsight, I think that may have been best, but it just didn’t occur to me. I had no part in hosting the NFT event and wasn’t really active on TBT at that time, so I didn’t have the knowledge of that precedent. Definitely worth consideration for next time.

As soon as I knew what kind of event it was I knew it was going to spiral all over the forum and into year/decade old posts like the naughty or nice event did. Except it was probably worst because it was a team competition. I do feel like there needs to be some handle on this because members have already expressed dislike about getting barraged by event reactions during dusting events. And I can sympathize with that. If you're going on the forum to have a real discussion and everyone is going on a spam-induced craze it's going to get annoying.

I tried to limit my reacts to the event board but then I saw others hitting up threads that didn't even have anything to do with the event and also spamming people who weren't even taking part of the event. I finally did the same since I didn't want my team to lose because my refusal to do so, but I'm not proud to admit it. It was a fun event, but there needs to be some kind of limit. Sure this event was only 2+ days, but naughty or nice went on for a full week+ and all over the forum was getting hit up with event reacts. So understandably people will get frustrated when they are just trying to engage in the forum.

Yeah, I don’t want to get hit by snowballs on my selling threads or profile posts on others’ profiles.

Also, is it possible to shut off reaction to people on your ignore list? So like if you block them on TBT, they won’t be able to react to your posts.

I have people on my ignore list, and I’ll just say that whenever they interact with my posts in any fashion, be it reacting to it or quoting, I do not receive a notification for it. I think that’s enough.

If it were like you suggested, people would easily be able to figure out who ignored them, which would cause more issues than it would solve.

It’s absolutely fine the way it is.
