I have a google account and I am signed in ut when I go to open the spreadsheet is asks me to sign in and then rejects my password :/

Yes you can! If you goto advanced search it gives you a bunch of extra search options I haven't used it yet( I just have a good memory for these kind if things) but you can try it out and see if it works
