This reminds me that I saw someone offering 1 mil for Tangy on tumblr and I had to laugh a little bit. Not in a mean way, I know some people don't have the time to make bells or don't want to mutilate their island for beetle farming or even play the stalk market...but man, people pay a lot for cute villagers! And some people are just rolling in bells.

That's just silly. It's not like bells are hard to come by, but really now? I can understand trading villagers for other villagers, but I have Skye and she's not worth 25 million bells xD

My advice is just be like a hawk on the exchange/giveaway threads, and constantly upsell villagers. That's seriously how I've gotten some of my favorites, by luck and taking villagers you might not like but know are favorites. It's all in reading trends.

I've seen Marshal go for crowns which you can apparently sell at Retail for 300k a pop.... The question of them getting these crowns puzzles me though. Even though I haven't gotten a crown in my catalogue yet, I think they'd be paying a lot more for these crowns than for what they can be sold for so when they're offering over 25 of them... yeeeeeaaah.
