Hey all!

In your experience, what is the best social media platform to be on? Which are your favourites and why?

On the other hand, what social media do you not have/never will have and why?

Twitter, I never had it and never will. I had Reddit and Instagram but logged off of those since they were toxic too. YouTube is the only toxic media I’ll stay on for a long time since I watch videos more than tv. It can be very toxic though.

imo, tiktok is a bit more toxic than instagram. i still use both apps and there’s entertaining stuff on both but people on tiktok can be absolutely brutal.

that being said, i believe i have an account on every main social media platform (snapchat, twitter, etc) but the ones that i don’t really use now are facebook and twitter with tiktok and instagram being the ones i use the most. i cant say much about twitter as i kind of only use it to find out stuff that’s going on :p

I don't use social media much anymore because they all kinda suck. I could talk a lot more about how social media's influence on the internet and internet culture and all that, but let's just say that I'm not really a fan. I miss when forums were more popular.

I mostly just use Reddit now. Some of the smaller, interest-based subreddits can be pretty nice. I browse some larger subreddits every now and then, but I avoid posting in them.

I really only use... used to use Instagram. I only follow my friends and hobby type accounts, I used to follow some fitness accounts... but those don't really inspire me, it's quite the opposite, so I stopped following those 😅 I've never had snapchat or tiktok, I stopped using fb and twitter a long time ago... but they all have their good sides and bad sides, personally I think twitter is the worst : /

I don't use any social media platforms so I guess I can't really rank them :/ I prefer to just speak to my friends through Discord or Whatsapp, as I don't really feel the need to constantly show everyone what i'm doing. If I want to talk to a lot of new people or make new friends, then i'll usually just join certain discord groups, or join forums like this one! That way I get to choose who I talk to and can also join relatively non toxic groups. As for old school friends/distant relatives, if i'm not talking to them on discord or haven't got their phone number, then I don't really care to keep up contact with them honestly.

idk man, i've watched people post innocent LGBT+ positive ac stuff on insta only for the comments to be needlessly packed with homophobia.
is tiktok worse than that? i don't have it so i can't say but-

I don’t really use much social media. Find most of it to be boring, toxic, and a waste of my time. Only things even remotely related to social media I use are this forum, Discord, and MAL.

yeah that’s true. and i wouldn’t say tiktok is worse in terms of homophobia but it’s got its own toxicity like fat-shaming and videos/images that could potentially be triggering to some like self-harm scars and eating disorders. but then again, i guess every social media has that type of stuff ;;

Has anyone noticed the weird switch from Youtube comments being the worst to Facebook comments being the worst? I'm gonna generalize here but the amount of childish 40-60 aged adults in Facebook comments arguing about politics or religion or LGBT+ is appalling.

I remember when Youtube comments were one of the worst places to go. I've found it's been better for the last few years and that's just amazing to me. Unless I just don't go on videos where all the crazies are.

idk, i've always found YT to be one of the least toxic places in terms of comments but maybe i'm just lucky. twitter is gross all around, instagram is no better, facebook is riddled with bigoted middle-aged folk. tumblr has its moments of intolerance. there's this "soap" forum here in the UK called digitalspy and the thread for a show i used to watch was full of homophobic, misogynistic middle-aged people (largely women, ironically). every generation has its moments, don't get me wrong, but i tend to find people 40+ are the worst offenders.

Twitter bad, insta (depending on who you interact with), and FB gud

Ok I forgot to put depending on who you’re interacting with for FB too

It’s all garbage, varying from a wreaking dumpster to a full-blown landfill—on fire.

Twitter is the worst right now, imo. I haven’t used any social media except reddit for about two years now. I don’t regret it at all—I just wish I could quit reddit too lol

I don't know if there's a best one. The worst might be Twitter, though. I never was that active on it; I think I had two friends at most, lol (I was more active on Facebook years ago, having about 200 friends circa 2012 or so). But simply reading the exchanges on there...wow. I don't know how anyone can be active on such a platform where it's impossible to have a detailed and constructive discussion, and where you're constantly bombarded by 500 responses from strangers. It's hard enough to have a useful and respectful conversation on religion or politics face-to-face; forget about it on a site that once kept people from posting more than 140 characters at a time.

I feel like all social media platforms have way too much bickering since everyone seems to hate each other these days 😔 I think that people on social media were overall more chill 10 years ago, but not sure if that's just my personal experience or not

I remember using Twitter back in 2012ish and it was okay. I'm disturbed about how much of a cesspool of garbage it's become.
Facebook has been taken over by middle aged folk who act like teenagers. You're totally right. Middle aged folk are insane online.
I quit instagram before really noticing how bad it was.
Tumblr has its hit or miss moments. You just have to know which tags to blacklist and you'll be alright.
I remember Youtube comments being crazy when Youtube first became popular but here it reigns being a decently peaceful place online.

Funny how things change lol.

i wasn't expecting instagram to be as toxic as it was when i joined but when i started creating wlw content for the fandom i was in, i learned very quickly that people on there tend to be very heteronormative at best and flat out homophobic at worst.

Well, it's a bit subjective, because social media platforms phase in and out. Like, have you seen myspace lately? It's an absolute mess, but it's still out there if someone wanted to poke their head in. As far as best? Ugh. I don't know. I use Twitter the most, but I rather hate the culture that comes with it.
