No matter what I do I can't get a 5 star rating(been at 4 forever). Isabelle keeps saying my island lacks appealing scenery and I need to decorate. I keep adding stuff and it does no good. If she would at least tell me what parts of my island need stuff that might make it easier but no. How did yall get 5 star rating?


edit: i finally got 5 stars! thanks to everyone who offered advice and tips it really helped. i added fences and fossils and more stuff than i can count(also lots behind the cliff as suggested). my island looks like crap now but thats the price you pay. once the month is over/i get some lillies of the valley ill clean it up and go back to 4 stars. thanks again yall!

My experience is planting a lot of hybrid flowers helps. I don’t have many decorations and my island is half finished, but got the 5* rating with a lot of hybrid flowers.

Also I heard all she cares is to filling up the space. So if you don’t care the real looking of your island, just fill it up by placing furnitures to please her.

I do have a lot of hybrids and my beach has lots of stuff too. i really dont want to just junk up my island with stuff(already overrun with flowers). its not like i can load it up to get 5 star and than remove it all and keep the rating.

I threw down fossils everywhere and had hundreds and hundreds of flowers. I made sure there were no dropped items or DIYs on the group. I barely had any fencing when I reached 5 stars. At this point I don't care about the five stars because I don't need lily of the valley or rare mushroom and I just needed to get 5 stars once to get the golden watering can recipe.

A lot of people on social media brag about having a 5 star island but I can do the same by having fossils placed everywhere randomly so it's not really an accomplishment when you know how the points are calculated and can just "cheat" the rating system. I wouldn't worry about maintaining a 5 star rating after you get all the rare mushroom and lily of the valley plants you want. As far as I know, the maintaining 5 stars doesn't impact anything else for now.

Forgot to mention, I put some complete sets of fossils and fake statues around the museum -area.

I have a LOT of fences (mostly hedges), shrubs, trees, and hybrid flowers. This really helped me push my ratings to 5.

Have a good mix of nook mile items, and some 3x3 items, if you don't already. Fences also help.

When she said i needed more fences i did that and she hasnt mentioned it a long time. But to just say lacks appealing scenery everywhere si way too broad. what is needed and where should be made clear. new leaf was very clear on this and i no problem getting 5 stars.

I had quite a few flowers on my island, lots of bushes, and several little areas with furniture around houses and things including a pretend restaurant and some completed fossils in front of the museum when I hit five stars. I'm not sure which part of it all pushed me up to five stars because I wasn't checking my rating regularly but that's definitely what I added when she gave me the super helpful feedback of "it needs more decorations"

Personally, I get tired of lilies of the valley popping up where I don't want them. Was glad to revert back to 4 stars after I got the watering can.

It doesn't matter what specific part of your island you decorate, OP. You can pile a bunch of furniture on top of each other without a single thought for the overall "design" - at one point I just threw a load of stuff haphazardly on the beach, and that got me to five stars immediately. After that I took everything down until I was done terraforming and could decorate as I chose, by which time I ended up at five stars again and everything was where I wanted it to be. That first milestone can be hard but if you don't want to just stick things everywhere, try hiding little pieces of furniture on the tiles right behind houses so you don't have to see them and see if that works.

Yeah, considering the map acres are labelled she could at least use that system to say which acre is currently scoring lowest.

Took me ages to get 5 star, but I use dropable items as decoration on my paths. Like dropped maple leaves, star fragements, heart crystals etc. And only being allowed 15 of these total means I'd rather have a 4 star island.

Honestly, unless you want more lilies of the valley for projects there’s no reason to have 5 stars beyond getting the golden watering can. My whole aesthetic revolves around having a ton of trees, bushes, weeds and plant materials everywhere so that’s an automatic turnoff for Isabelle. I bet if I cut down 2/3rds of my trees and picked up enough clutter I’d be a shoe-in for 5 stars. Just keep putting furniture down and you’ll hit it eventually!

Same I have weeds and star fragments and heart crystals dropped around so my 5 star rating dropped to 4 star, which i dont mind. I got a good amount of lily of the valleys and my gold watering can so I don’t mind either. But overall, try adding lots of furniture all around ur island and have enough flowers and fences and you’ll get there eventually c:
