There is no new "2nd Anniversary" cake in the mail and no so called "update"

I didn’t expect anything and I’m glad that I restarted my 🏝 . Still sad about it though . Time flies so fast !

We never got an anniversary cake or thing the last time correct?

I'm more bothered by the fact that no one in the game (or the game for that matter) makes any acknowledgment to when you started your island. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record to many, but New Leaf and Isabelle gave you a little anniversary meeting with everyone around the tree plaza when it was your anniversary as mayor. You also got a furniture clock of the tree as well.

It wasn't long, it wasn't anything extraordinary, but it was something. It made it feel like they cared enough to give a nod (and to many other simple things) that the dev team in NH just couldn't be bothered to do. I know some or a lot will disagree with me, but it just feels depressing when a game from 10 years ago feels like it poured more of its soul than its successor from just 2 years ago.
if i remember correctly, the anniversary as mayor only came after the big welcome amiibo update no? so maybe we just have to wait a little longer lol
but in all seriousness i would like something like this more than just a celebration of the game being out long. getting a reward for your town being old was always nice

disappointed, but not at all surprised. i don’t think nintendo even acknowledged the anniversary anywhere. guess they really are done with the game. 🤷🏻‍♀️

missed opportunity to put in an anniversary cake DIY recipe that we can cook ourselves!
this genuinely would’ve been so cool. now i’m sad they didn’t do this. 😔

I believe that may have been the case. They may decide to, but they have stated that they are done updating the game. It still felt impersonal to just honor the game's launch date and not when someone created their town. Even without the WA update you could sit on the tree and see all the different milestones. I can't remember, do we have something like that in NH?

Nope. That's the thing with the Town Tree in NL. The credit roll gives you that feeling of nostalgia and accomplishment. Whereas in NH, listening to KK doesn't really give you that fuzzy feeling. It did the first few times, but now, it's just something I just do for the sake of the Nook Mile achievement.

To be honest, I really didn't like that our primary aim is to get KK to perform on the island. Go get a 3-star island rating and that's it. You can even cheat your way around it by bombarding your island with hedges and flowers. There is no real sense of progress in my island despite having unlocked the museum, Nook's Cranny and Able's.

thats true! sitting at the town tree was amazing. really sad they couldnt bring something like that back. thats a weird thing to cut, same with upgrading nook.

If anything, I’m kind of upset about the fact that they’d said there would be three years of content with the game and they tapped out after a year and a half. There are so many small things that they could have put into the game to round it off more, you know? Like an April 1st event. Or a way to play mini games with friends so that there’s more to do when you visit each other on your islands...

I’m both disappointed and let down.

As another day 1 player it makes me sad to read this thread :( They have really washed their hands of this game and so soon too :( They just put it out there then updated it for a year then that's it no more

Nintendo has made it clear about no more updates (remember the Japanese version just said "no more updates" not about them being free/major) and remembering that the "3 years of content" is just a misunderstanding on the part of some fans so the thought didn't even cross my mind. I guess it could've been a possibility but even if they did something small that might've disappointed people more in a way.

Just keep in mind with YouTubers that relied on AC news that now that no more content updates ahs been confirmed they need to try to find some ways to keep getting views even if that means creating false hope.

They did say no more updates so I wasn't even bothered about the 2nd anniversary. I'm not going to waste my time and energy on something that won't happen. Like a cake in the mail or a small update. Unfortunately Nintendo have given up on this game, and that's just the way it is. Time to accept and move on I guess.

It's really sad yes, but idk I don't think I can be bothered to get upset or angry about it anymore lols.

Yeah, clickbait isn’t a new thing on YouTube. Nintendo basically said no more updates. Anyone trying to convince themselves otherwise are just filled with false hope.

Yeah there's no sense of accomplishment or progression and no one ever acknowledges all of your hard work. Heck for the longest time we couldn't even do the basic stuff the villager's were doing from day 1. So to me it felt like I was on the freemium/basic account and they were all on the premium. Like there was a glass wall separating me from them/everything else. I could look, but I couldn't do.

Which left a bad taste, considering we paid $60. They went about padding the game's longevity very poorly. I would've rather had it all from the start.

It's clear now that the dev team was stretched thin, the pandemic hit which messed up plans even more, and then Nintendo told them they needed all hands on deck for Splatoon 3. So I am sure a lot of things were just scrapped and it's possible the last update was their chance to just unload whatever they had finished. I mean they had datamines showing Brewster and so much more during early 2020. Heck people were screenshooting villager's talking about the Roost which was then patched out the next update.

Same here, I was so disappointed when I saw that my mail box was empty on the 20th. Been playing since day one and I still have the 1st anniversary cake. You'd think that Nintendo would want to do more with one of their best selling games and not just abandon it... yet pocket camp got updates for at least 4 years (they even got 4 year anniversary items). Makes me wonder if Nintendo had put a paid currency in NH would they still be updating it...

If they're saying inside the video that there's any possibility then I feel like that goes a step beyond clickbait since it's not just creating false hope with a misleading thumbnail that people would catch onto once they played the video but making up a whole narrative and getting viewers to buy into it to keep coming back.
