Thoughts/Comments on the Direct?

I think they confirmed that amiibo cards will be used to invite villagers to live on your island!

In the first scene that showed the campsite, it showed inviting the camper to live on your island. Then during the amiibo segment, it showed the scanned villager at the campsite. I'm so excited!

I also LOVED how you see an outline of all the buildings you're placing, so you can see the exact spot you are putting it.

The only thing that's weird to me is the fact that holidays apparently aren't on the game as a default. They're doing them as free updates. I imagine they're doing this to encourage people to play longer and/or not TT. But who knows.

Other than that one weird quirk, everything looks great so far! I'm really shocked at how much customization they're giving us. We can change our rivers! That's amazing. So far it seems like your initial map only matters for the beginning of the game, when you don't have the construction permit yet.

Super hyped right now! Kinda hoped they'll show off any new species of villagers but I guess if there's any, they'd want to leave it as a surprise for us to find.

I think they did show 3 new villagers during the celebrating birthday clip though.

I was really impressed, and it put my mind at ease regarding a lot of the things I was worried about. The customization elements look great, and I’m really excited about the island redesign stuff. It also looks like agonizing over map layouts won’t be terribly important in the long term, as you can relandscape, move rivers, etc. And the ability to move houses and buildings means that decisions are less permanent. As someone whose favorite aspects of the game are landscaping and home decorating, it looks like a lot of fun.

I’m also pleased to see that a bunch of facilities (including buying/selling) are open 24 hours per day. That means that even if I can’t change the clock, I won’t be completely restricted from doing things on weekdays a lot of the time. I’m still wondering about ordinance-type options, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I wish they’d shown Amiibo info through an actual “move here” invitation screen, but it looks like we’ll probably be able to move Amiibo villagers into our towns. I have a bunch of cards for favorite villagers who’ve made my ACNL experience great, and I’d love to invite them to my ACNH town.

As for actual announcements, I’m concerned about the holidays being free updates. Does that mean that once they stop supporting the game, we won’t be able to play holidays anymore? Or does it mean that there will be one Bunny Day update, for example, and that will work every year, not just in 2020? It seems like a way to avoid having people jump ahead and play holidays early, which I have mixed feelings about, but I’m mostly concerned about the long term consequences.

Overall, I still have some questions, but there weren’t any bombshell dealbreaker announcements for me here. The island does look a little small for eight people, and I’m still unhappy about the single island per console thing, but realistically, odds are good I’ll eventually get a second Switch (probably if and when they release a pro-type upgrade). And I’ll be happy with one island for a while given the amount we can do with it.

I LOVED it.

I do find it weird that normal holidays are locked behind free updates, but I guess that means we can have more time for planning or preparing for those just in case you happen to be busy.

Other than than, I absolutely loved everything shown, I practically cried while watching it because it was just so good

No, once the update downloads, any holiday will be in your game permanently, so long as the update data stays on your console

I believe that's why they're doing it too, but I do hope that you can at least TT to earlier in the day for a holiday. I work retail so sometimes I work on holidays like Halloween, so if I got off work late I hope I could TT to the start of the festivities. If not, though, I don't think I'll mind. I'll just request the day off from work x)

I also thought this was a little weird, but not necessarily bad.

Now I'm wondering if the holiday events will change over time! Like new items each year. That would help keep the holidays fresh for a long time!

That's a good point! When the holidays gave out the same item(s) every year, there wasn't really any reason to participate in them more than once. If having them be game updates means different items each year, that would be amazing!

PLEASE. New items/activities for holidays is one of my biggest hopes for the game. After a year or two on NL there was no point in doing the holidays anymore just to get the same items to take up limited space. It'd be great if they released more items each year like on Pocket Camp.

Yeah, I've definitely TTed because of work making me miss out on things reasons. I know some people act like all TTers cheat, but when you're a working adult, sometimes there's no avoiding missing certain things.

I don't think the fact that these updates exist means that you can't TT. I'm sure you can. I just mean that, for example, the day when the game first comes out, people can't TT to Halloween and expect to experience the Halloween events before everyone else. They will be forced to wait until the free update. After the update is out, everyone should be able to access that event at any time.

Terraforming! That takes the pressure off trying for the "perfect" island map right off the bat.

Relocating houses and shops. That's huge!

The holidays being part of updates is different, but it may be that they plan to change them slightly from year to year. That would make sense to not have them canned at the start. And it will deter people from TT to get everything from Day One.

Yeah, I don't think TT is gone for good either, I agree that it's probably to stop people from jumping immediately to holidays, which I think is fair. It would disrupt player economy for the people who don't want to jump months ahead but the market would already be saturated with Jingle items for example, that are probably overpriced because they'd be rarer. TT itself isn't bad because, as you said, some of us work, but I am glad that now TT will be a player based activity and can't affect other players by others getting items before anyone else.

There is so much to talk about but I cannot not say something about this...
There is now a way to easily look through your storage by type and there are pictures.
This saves... so much time is almost un-real.
Decorating in general got such a huge overhaul; cannot wait to start !!

Also, did anyone notice the fortune cookie stand?

I wonder if its just a static crossover item from Pocket Camp or if we will be able to buy fortune cookies? I hope its the latter, and NO, that does not automatically mean microtransactions. I believe if there were microtransactions, they would have mentioned it. Hopefully if we can buy special fortune cookies, it would be an option with Nook Miles.

I know all the items around are PC related but I really hope this is the way you get PC exclusive items... I love the items from that game too much for them to be lost in an app forever.

I'm so excited I don't even know where to start. Nintendo has exceeded my expectations, they have truly listened to us and given us what we want!! I'm excited for just about everything ahhhhhhhhh!!!! Originally I was disappointing about having to craft things, but now I am excited for it, among EVERYTHING ELSE!

Two questions though in case I missed them:

1. Near the end, she said we can move our house even after we've picked it's original location, correct? Or did I hear that wrong? (This was around the time she said we could create an actual house if a tent wasn't enough)

2. Did anyone notice if the character limit increased on town names / was it discussed and I just missed it? I noticed that the town they used was named Ninten (or something close to that) which makes me wonder if the character limit is still 8, or if they have upped it to 10 or even 12! I would love if we could have 10 - 12 letters, after all they have given us I am being a bit greedy with this haha, but it would still be awesome!

i honestly don?t even know what to say ... my mind is completely blown and i?m astonished at all the new information. i don?t even know where to begin but i?m so excited lmao

My favorite parts of the direct:
Wisp
Terraforming!! I’ll get to make cliffs how I want them!
The “tours”. Seems like it’ll be very relaxing and not like the New Leaf tours. The previous tours were actually one of the few things I loved about NL so I’ll miss those, but I’ll enjoy the new format, too!
Shops. Seems like they’re going back to the pre-NL style.
The seasons and events looked amazing!
I love Dodo airlines!
They actually did some cool features with the Switch Online app!

Also, was anyone else confused by rescue services? They basically gave Resetti a role for a feature that’s practically useless. The map isn’t that big or complex, I doubt you would get lost or stuck.

I was thinking it seemed kind of useless as well, but maybe it's for just in case you accidentally modify your island in a way that you are not able to get back to your house (by digging the river and not having a bridge or pole vault, and leaving yourself stuck on a part of your island) or something like that!

(edit: this may actually make no sense haha sorry, I stayed up all night to watch the direct and have not slept yet)
