Touchy subject: How have other people reacted to you playing AC? (if you're 16+)

I played WW in high school too, but it's not something I just tell people - not that I'm embarrassed, but since most of my friends didn't play video games it just doesn't come up in conversation.

I'm in college now and usually bring my 3DS along for some Streetpass tags, and ACNL often comes up as a "recently played" game for a lot of other students, so I guess it's not so weird to play that at my age. :D

As for my parents, my dad just hates it when I have fun period (kidding, he does like me studying more than playing, of course), and my mother likes it when I play these cutesy games more than when I play "violent" games anyway, so she doesn't complain when I have my 3DS out.

That's what I say to my mom XD " would u rather me drink beer, text no-good people, or play videogames?" lolol

Hah another reason why I got a 3DS and returned to Animal Crossing! To bring it with me to college, road trips, and airplanes! It sure is better than hauling around a giant gaming computer or an Xbox One

I'm 17, and bring my 3DS to school a lot. My friend also has AC, and no one comments on it, so. c: Honestly though, if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have the guts to bring my 3DS. But thankfully I do (even to some classes), and no one makes fun of me for it.

I really haven't thought that people were made fun of for playing AC. D: Some people can be so judgmental...

The other day in class, during a get-to-know-another-classmate sort of exercise, I mentioned playing video games as one of my hobbies, and the other person asked what video game. So I said Animal Crossing, and he said that he played it too!

That's the only recent reaction I've had. I don't tell people I play AC much. Not embarrassed, but like someone else said, I don't bring it up much. :)

I don't feel too weird about playing AC at my age (or any age). Many of the people I play with are usually around my age range, so it feels normal. My dad even plays AC, and he's of course considerably older than me.

I guess I just have SUPER snooty "mainstream" parents. My dad was a football player in high school, and my mom was all popular and snobby. And don't even get me started with my school. I thought in senior year people would be less judgmental .-.

Main reason why I joined this website? not enough local people who play animal crossing, so i resorted to making online AC friends

I'm older than VioletsTown and I don't talk to people about AC IRL all that much. If I did and they played games, too, it would just be another game to them. No big deal. But, it's like other hobbies where I don't bring it up around people who aren't into it just because they don't know about it and don't care.

I'm a 20 year old male, and i've definitely had some people think it's weird. My boyfriends 9 year old brother always tells me it's a kids game. And I play it at work when there's free time, and everyone thinks that's super weird. Probably doesn't help my 3ds is pink. :/ I had a colleague go up to my friend at a bar and be like "You're friends with the guy who always plays his gameboy!". lmao

I don't care how people judge me when I play game~ Some might say childish, lame, and all sort (I used to be mindful of all this) but I don't care as long as I enjoy this! Some games yes, re meant for kids. But nowadays game market are not targeted to kids (Oh, tell me PS4 maniac are kids age 14 below, NO THEY ARE NOT!). So, why care how people judge? each individual have their likes and dislike, like how I dislike people drink to drunk, smoke to lung and so on xDD anyway AC is so fun and addictive! I make my friend who wasn't a game addict, addicted to AC now! hahaha

Totally agree. Like trying to explain to people who don't care or not even interested make you look even weirder. So I only share what I like to people who have the same thought or interested to know more~

The only one who reacted to me playing it was my boyfriend, who doesn't understand what makes Animal Crossing fun. He was like "that game is lame and you're lame, who wants to play games about doing chores?" (he does it jokingly though, I know he's jelly because everyone else he knows enjoys it :B). My mom doesn't get videogames besides Super Mario and Tetris, but she's seen me play Harvest Moon/Kingdom Hearts to GTA/Sleeping Dogs to Resident Evil/Fatal Frame that I don't think she even bats an eyelash anymore. The rest of my family thinks it's adorable--the game, not me playing it. Mostly everyone I've been friends with (who play videogames) loved that I finally got ACNL and we partied in each other's towns for hours. 8U

I don't understand why people are judgmental about who plays what videogames, to be honest. Or why people are judgmental, period. Elitists are all like "bawwww casual gamers aren't real gamers they're ruining the gaming industryyyy" or "these aren't real games how dare you play them!" or from most people, the common "these games are for kids, why are you playing it? grow up". Liek??? Just shut up and leave them alone?? You don't own their life, let them play whatever the heck they want. It's their money and time to spend. The world isn't ending because some 16 year old bought a game that's visually for 10 year olds. It's not hurting anybody.

Sorry for the short rant.

;u; I don't really talk to the majority of my friends about games, but I discovered a lot of people in my program at uni play AC huhuhu. So I used to streetpass some ACNL players daily & during breaks we'd visit each others towns and stuff. :'D It was fun finding out so many other people my age played too~ before hand only I only knew one person who played. ;; So there's no judgement in that group of people at least 8D My parents think it's a cute game too, haha.

I am almost 40 and my daughter is 21. We both play (as does my 13 year old son, to an extent). Oftentimes, conversation will come around to what one of our townies is doing or who we think is cute, and the rest of the family just roll their eyes and tune us out. The other day, my daughter was describing Chadder to her aunt and it was the funniest thing to watch. It was because of her obsession with the game that I got my XL and she got her own game. She had practically taken over her brother's 3DS.

Couple of my friends are 50+ and have UH-MAZING towns! At 27 myself, I've come across a few teenagers who thinks it's 'cool' to play with people that don't curse excessively or dig holes and whack residents with their nets. lol I've never come across negativity based on my age. Though I confuse everyone because they assume I am a man since my haircut in-game is a boys cut and my name is Niko... lol

I'm almost 20 and the response I've got from my peers has been pretty overwhelmingly positive. Like myself, lots of my peers grew up the GameCube and ACGC was a popular title. So many people ages 18-22 who I've told that I bought the most recent Animal Crossing game get all nostalgic.

I first started to play Animal Crossing when I was 10, and I still love it! :) Once I told a girl in New Leaf on the island that I was 17, I believe she said she was about 8. When I told her I was 17 she said something like "Ahhh! Big kid!" Lol. She seemed somewhat ok with it though. :) I'm just glad that I'm not the only "Big Kid" still playing good ole' Animal Crossing games!

Oh I also know 3 other people my age at school who play it. One had hers when I first found out some people actually did play it at school. The other two mostly got AC:NL, a 3DS (and Well Pokemon X/Y) thanks to the two of us who already had it. Just the other day all four of us were hanging out in one town during lunch, it was a lot of fun! ^.^

I am a designer. To me, all this graphical thingy is impressive and worth to be explore and appreciate. Game are designed and there effort and thought put into it, I really feel people should not judge cute, adorable thing as is for kids. Sometime, adults appreciate kiddy thing more than kids themselves. As a kids, I don't take care of the toys (regardless how much it is) but now I appreciate my 3ds and my game very much because I understand how much time and effort and money I put into it!

I think one of the nice things about Animal Crossing is that it's a game for all ages. The only shocked reactions I've received for playing it have been from my old guild members, but that's just because they're used to me being in MMO mode. I Streetpass a looot of people at my university (which was pretty surprising to me- did not expect that from a Big 12 school), so I think it's pretty popular for others my age.
