Touchy subject: How have other people reacted to you playing AC? (if you're 16+)

Oh my, Maybe I shouldn't post this but here goes, I'm going to be 65 years old on this Saturday, Jan 11, I have been playing Animal Crossing since my daughter introduced me to it with Game Cube Population Growing. (although I really never played this verison, I did watch her play it allot) she was pregnant with my Second Grandson and was having a difficult pregnancy and wasn't able to do much. When Wild World came out, I purchased DS's for all, My older Grandson, Son-in-law, daughter and myself, along with game cards to play the game. I still have my original DS and game. And When Nintendo released City Folk, Well, lets just say, we were a 3 Wii family. Mine mostly only had City Folk disc in it. And now I'm Playing on a new System (3DS XL) which I now have 3 of them, And 4 game cards. To say I'm addicted is putting it mildly. I respect who ever I play with but I do get the "OH you are so OLD at times." But my answer to that is "I might be old but I don't have to ask my mommy or daddy to buy my toys and I can play as much as I want when Not working".
And being an "older" player I know the advantages of having and developing good friendships and not destroying others property.
Would love to have some of the "older" players here as friends.
Thanks for reading.

Hmm, I don't think anyone has minded me playing AC as of being 18? In fact, I think 16+ or lower or whatever is normal. Everyone can play AC no matter, it's fun.

I'm 19 and I've played both Wild World when I was 10, City Folk when I was 13 and now New Leaf. It seemed natural to me to go out and buy the new Nintendo 3DS so I could play some Animal Crossing :D I actually went to 8 different stores to buy New Leaf, but none had the game and I ended up buying it online.
My mom thinks it's childish - and I agree with her, but I don't think there is anything wrong with being childish at some points ^-^
My friends might think it's a bit silly, but they don't judge me. They know how childish I can be ^-^
In my experience there are so many players, especially on the online forums, who are older than the targeted player. Or they at least seem older :) It's nice!

@Bobbi - You are way too cool! Seriously that's awesome! c: It just proves that Animal Crossing can be enjoyed by everybody!

im 21 and everyone I talk to either likes AC or doesnt really care enough to say anything bad about it.
Id still play the game though even if I got made fun of, I don't waste time dwelling on other peoples negative thoughts

Anyone who looks at you weird for playing a game "that's for 12 year old's" is just as close-minded as the rest of the world. Things like games, tv shows or toys might be designed with a specific age group in mind but that certainly doesn't mean anyone outside of this age group is forbidden to enjoy it too. There might be a minimum age for certain things, but certainly not a maximum age.

Oh my, Maybe I shouldn't post this but here goes, I'm going to be 65 years old on this Saturday, Jan 11,

Ahhh, happy birthday! Your tale is so lovely c: Animal Crossing rocks, I'm really amazed and envious at how much you've enjoyed with it.

I'm only 23 years old, but I'm currently working at an office where three other people play 3DS games. AC:NL is actually my first game in the series, but I've known about it ever since it came on N64 and I've been waiting a long time to play it.

My coworkers view me with amusement, especially since I often play the game during break and tend to bring up the game in conversation. My brother, about seven years older than me, teases me about it. All of my gaming buds are guys, and, quite predictably, the only thing they ask me about the game is whether or not it has violence in it! Psheesh. They seem to think of me now as some kind of crazy cat lady, except with fluffy, digital villagers. I say, they don't know what they're missing.

I'm 18 and some people think it's a bit sad, but I really don't care. Animal Crossing is my childhood game, I got it when I was 10 and have been addicted to it ever since. :p

I'm 28 and this is actually my first AC game. I think my husband finds it slightly weird how involved I am with my town and that I sometimes bring up my beloved villagers in our daily conversations. :p I used to be an avid gamer up until my early 20's and then I had quite a big gap. The 3DS XL was actually an anniversary gift from the husband and ACNL was the very first game I purchased for the system. I honestly didn't even know if I'd like it or how much I'd end up playing it but I'm absolutely hooked and it's by far one of the best things that's happened to me during the past few months. :p

23, my family/friends know but just doesn't care. It keeps me occupied in my down time, all good! My niece wants to play though, so I'm tempted to get her a copy of her own so she can.

I'm 29 and work at a high school and I can tell you AC is pretty popular amongst teenagers, I usually get 20+ streetpassses a day and most are playing new leaf. I play at work sometimes, so some of my students know I play new leaf, the ones that know the game think it's great and the ones that don't know the game don't care. I never got that "nintendo is for babies" bs but I'm well aware of the reputation, but I couldn't care less =).

I'm 30 and a high school teacher too! We should be New Leaf friends! I also get a ton of street passes from my students and they all envy my Zelda gold edition 3DS XL. ;)

Sure! I wanted to get that edition too but I already have two 3DS DO, I couldn't justify the purchase :p. I think my fc is on my profile but if not, I'll send you a pm

I'm 43 and while I do get some odd looks from strangers my family and friends (the ones that don't play video games themselves) know that I enjoy video games and just consider it a hobby that I enjoy. I guess I've reached an age that I don't really care what others think when I pull out my 3DS in public to see if I've gotten street passes. :)

I did have a little fun the other day in the waiting room at the orthodontist while my daughter got her wires tightened. There were 3 other moms and one father also waiting for their kids and I got some odd looks but I didn't care, Goldie wanted to see my house! :)

My bf called it "gay" before I got it, but now that I play it he thinks it's kind of cute. I was kind of embarrassed playing it around him first, but he always asks me what I'm doing on it when I'm playing it. Other than him, I don't really care what anyone thinks.

lol yeah it seems like the type of game your average guy would primarily call "gay" but once u get sucked in, you cannot get out o.o i dont what kind of brain tricks and psychology stuff the game developers are pulling off, but it is working! This game is awesome!

Bobbi, happy birthday! I am going to be 65 in March and I have been playing games since that Adventure game they used to include on the DOS floppies. (Does anyone even know what that is anymore?) Anyway, I'm with you...age and experience have their advantages and one thing I love about being an "older" player is that I don't have to care what others think about my hobby. If anyone looks at me funny I just tell them that I am counting on my video games to keep my mind sharp when I reach 100 years old. :)

I'm a substitute at the moment, and I've told some students that I played Animal Crossing. Now that they know, we all bring our 3DS's to school and keep them on in our pockets so that we can StreetPass each other! Some asked the "Aren't you a little old?" question, but I told them that I went to school for video game design (which I did), so not only is playing Animal Crossing fun but it also counts as "homework" and "research" to me. They laughed and moved on, and according to them, I'm a "cool sub". :p

I'm only in my 20s by the way, but some students (especially middle schoolers) have a hard time realizing that I'm not ancient and out of touch.
