TT vs TT Abuse

It does feel pretty cheaty to me?
Like, the game is real time for a reason. TTing has to be done by Switch settings for a reason. Turnips die during TTing for a reason. The game is being released through updates for a reason. Villager friendship levels don't increase from TTing for a reason.
This game is meant to have a long life span, considering it has taken 8 years between the last AC game and this one, I mean a long life span and TTers don't have that, they 'finish' the game pronto and move on. Which is fine if that's their style. I think I'm just annoyed at all the TTers complaining that they've already reached the "end" of the game and it feels so empty. Like, it's your choice to play it in a way it isn't supposed to be played but you gotta understand that it doesn't cater to you.

Also I think it's perfectly fair for people to refuse to trade with TTers. I wouldn't. I want to earn things in my game without TT. If I trade with you for something you got via TT, that's kinda breaking my own rule, so.

I agree with all of these points, but I'll still trade with time travelers. I won't single someone out simply because of their personal play style. Now what I do dislike is if a time traveler is trying to charge me millions for something. Just because they manipulated the system to progress through their game faster and got rich from it, doesn't mean they should expect everyone else to be easily sitting on a pile of gold too. It can kind of isolate players in a way where it cuts off availability to a certain player group from participating in certain markets.

Personally, I haven't seen much hate towards TTing on TBT at all. At most, I've seen people refuse to trade with TTers for perfectly valid reasons. Like the TTers often say, let people play the game they want. If they don't want to trade with TTers, they don't have to.

For me, the issue with time traveling is how quickly people are getting unlocks that I won't get for multiple weeks in the future. I am happy for people who enjoy the game playing this way, but I know that I will lose interest in the game more quickly if I were to time travel as well. I want to play New Horizons over a very long period, and to me having the patience to wait for things is part of the real-time experience that the game intends. I am in no rush to have a perfect island or unlocking landscaping, but everyone's situation is different.

I would sell to them, and adopt from them since 99% of the time adoption needs time travel to be done right, but I don't think I could buy from them due to my own personal rule of 'no items obtained via TT'

oooh I understand what you mean by that now! You wouldn't want to purchase items that are unlocked later on in the game. That makes complete sense! I really prefer unlocking my own content too.

My question is, why do people suddenly care about TTing now? Nobody seemed to care in NL. What's the difference this time around?

Probably because it is clearly actively discouraged by the game this time. The option to TT is not in game. TTers are manipulating their Switch settings.

Also I can bet there was probably a very similar argument when NL can out, but it chilled out as the game got older/

Hopefully it chills out as the game gets older cause it's a super dumb thing to fight about.

With every new release there's always fighting between whether you should TT or not. It usually dies down in a few months, but a lot of people believe you shouldn't rush to unlock certain parts of the game and get upset by what they feel are "spoilers" (completely subjective as everyone views different things as spoilers)
Once we all have the same buildings and what not that's usually when people don't fuss so much about TTing.

I haven't traded with anyone here in NH yet, but if I do, I will disclaim that I TT and it will be the buyer's prerogative to not purchase from me.

I don't have an issue with people who disagree with TTing. I refused to trade TTers in my first playthrough of NL, thats how you get the authentic experience. I would feel bad if I traded someone who wasn't aware, but I don't feel bad for TTing!

Most time travelers aren't doing it for profit. In the past I would tt for stuff like moving villagers out, getting my bridge built, etc.. That seems to be the case with most people.

Over the years I've heard all the accusations about TT being "cheating", and so on, mostly on other forums. I don't really give a hoot because I am a solitary player. Any competition they may perceive is in their own head because I'm not competing with anybody. As for "finishing the game too early", well, I'm just an old fuddy duddy but I played ACNL for 3,845 hours and there were still things I hadn't done. These games are very complex. In my opinion if you understand the game and enjoy it, you will never finish it at all, much less too early.

But what REALLY mystifies me, is that nobody has ever accused me of "cheating" for having two Switches, with two islands, and playing them both at once. I did the same with ACNL, and had three 3DSXL's and three towns. It's a great way to make money, to have twice the choices at Nook's Cranny, and so on. It helps me to advance my town or island more than any TT that I might choose to do. Yet having two islands is not considered cheating, and TT is. To me this is one of the fundamental mysteries of the universe.

Reasonable answer, but I don't think it's comparable. If multiple consoles were disallowed, well, it's hard to discern between that and someone who has a consistent group of friends/family to play with. And I could see someone arguing that multiple consoles manipulates no mechanics in the game, therefore isn't 'exploiting' mechanics.

I just remember NL days when people were perfectly willing to manipulate game mechanics, ie plot resetting, so long as it fit their view of "organic" gameplay. Widely acceptable behavior, but what do I know, I'm a dirty TTer.
