Ugh LAG!

I decided to boot NH up for the first time in a month to try and get back into the game before the long awaited and anticipated Brewster update…. But lo a behold it’s windy so of course my island is lagging and juttering like mad. I’d have much rather nintendo set us an item limit than deal with this rubbish!

Short of ripping the island apart and just putting all the items into storage, or simply giving up and quitting playing the game altogether, is there anything I can do to try and stop / easy the drop in frame rates?

I had basically the same experience you're describing - I loaded up my island, intending to decorate a bit for fall before the new update, and I feel like the lag is worse than I've ever experienced in the past. It used to be just one part of my island that lagged badly, but now it's pretty much everywhere. I ran around for a bit then ended up just closing it and playing a different game lol. Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you, but hopefully someone does because I could definitely use some help with the lag as well.

It’s so annoying because I really want to enjoy the game but every time I try to it’s like the games like “Hahaha NOPE not today!”

Play the Sims 2 on it with all expansions

Do you guys have a lot of decorations on your island?

I notice lag in the Dream Suite but not my own. Then again I haven't played recently so maybe I need to check again.

I think it’s mostly custom designs that do it, I don’t have that many items on my island I don’t think. But I have invisible clear custom designs everywhere to stop flowers from spreading. I notice dream islands with custom paths seem to lag all the time too, much more so than heavily decorated islands with in game paths

I have notice this too. It crops up when I visit maxcore islands that include custom paths/designs.

I don’t typically have lag on my island, and I keep it fairly light in terms of items. However, this week I built a temporary county fair on my island. I did not have any issues after I plopped down a TON of items, but I did create a custom advertisement poster for the fair, and put up the signs everywhere on my island. That’s when I noticed a slight lag here and there as I ran across my island. It is worse when I have a plaza visitor now too.

I don't have any custom paths, just in game ones, and my game lags in quite a few places. They're places that are decorated, but I didn't think it was heavy with decorations. But yeah, there's definitely a huge lag/skip issue that's seemed to have gotten worse even though I don't have any more decorations than before.

My island doesn't have a crazy amount of decorations but it does tend to lag sometimes, mainly at parts with a lot of flowers

i have the same problem but i decorate A LOT like almost every place is filled lol
you can only try to take some items away but idk i just try to live with it. if i want to catch bugs or fish i just visit nook miles islands to avoid the lag

My island isn't that that cluttered but for some reason, my island only lags when there's a Bug-Off or Fishing Tourney.

Apparently, my island hates it when everyone is out and about wandering the island.

The only lag I was experiencing was the loading screen taking over a minute to load. It would sometimes take up to three minutes. I thought my game or console was damaged.

I suffer from a lot of lag and pop-ins too because my island is pretty packed. I’ve mostly gotten used to the lag and I hardly notice it anymore, but I still get disoriented sometimes when I use the camera and zoom around because it always takes a second for everything to load in once I exit the app. I’m not that concerned over the lag in my own single player gameplay, but I do worry sometimes that visitors would get annoyed since they could possibly experience lag and pop ins much worse when they visit me on my island.
