it is really one of the only ways to get all of the villagers that you want. People sell weeding services (including me
link in sig)
If you have mixed feelings then don't. If you're worried about weeds you can set the ordinance to beautiful to minimize the damage from TT-ing.
Personally, I do it for the sake of villagers, it's really hard to coordinate trades when I happen to have a free spot. MY favorite dream villager out there? Yes. I have a free spot? No. Most popular ones go by fast and require a transaction then and there.
I'm sort of in the same predicament. I've never TTed before. The weeds I can deal with, but I am afraid I'll mess something up or lose one of my two good villagers... Since I've never done it I don't have the first clue as to how to go about doing it. Someone on the forums referred me to a TT group.
What I do when I'm unsure is to create an alternate new character to make sure at least that my favorite villagers' houses are there. If they are packed I can see that they're in their house with boxes inside. This would be a warning bell that I must have missed a villager's notification to move. Since I'm on my alternate new person then it didn't save and I can always change the date back (to before I changed it) and talk to them.

OK so. This is to get rid of villagers when you have 10 atm, right?
7/21 TODAY
Go to 3ds settings and change the date to
7/23 Make a new character and wander about. Go to Isabelle, Tom, Isabelle to save if all goes well. Go on mayor unless you don't mind wasting an entire day.
Now.... change 3ds clock to 7/22.
Log in as mayor and do a walkabout and talk to your animals. Can't find any? That's ok.
Save & Quit.
Go to 3ds settings and change the hour.
Log back in to talk to your animals.
No one is moving still? Ok.
Save & quit.
Go to 3ds settings and change the date to 7/21.
Log on as mayor and someone should approach you "!" to move. It might not be the first conversation so make sure to talk to the others in case they say. "So and so is thinking about moving, is that ok???"
Also, I know my way is freaking long and different but I haven't lost a villager yet due to stealth moving.

Thx for the information! I even feel more confident because I'm going to time travel on a different character! Unfortunately, because Nintendo had a dumb idea about the game, I need to wait a day to change the ordiance and wait for it.
