I've had this happen to me before and then I saw a youtuber say the same thing happened to them in the past so I wanted to know your experiences with this.

Who is a villager you were really hyped and excited to have, but when you got, you didn't like them that much?

My most memorable experience of this was raymond. Although the story has a happy ending.

I got raymond as was so excited. But it was winter so he was wearing snow clothes a lot. It didn't really show off why he was so cool.
So I let him go.

When villager hunting I found him again and took him back because I have every amiibo and he doesn't have one.
This time around I loved everything about him!
I've still got him now and I will never let him go.

One story that did not end well was maple.
She was really cute so I though I would like her.
Had her for like 3 or 4 months.

It turns out, "cute" villagers bore me senseless.
They have no personality.
Theyre a bland vacuum of lame.
I tried so hard to like her but "cute" is not cute.
Its awful.

I had to really did up my island journal cause I couldn't remember who I had.

Ankha - Hated her house, I think I had 3 snooties at this point so I wasn't a fan of how repetitive it was.

Bob - He was a voided villager, didn't hold a candle to Cranston. I also don't like the lazy talk that much.

Coco - I don't get the appeal

Dom - I hate this sheep

Fauna, Goldie, Maple, Merengue - I just found them to be all really boring. I really like Midge, Celia, and Lily even though they all have the same personality and dialogue. I know it's weird

There were a couple of other popular villagers I had but didn't want but I picked up for friends and giveaways and I still didn't like them after having them. (Dom, Judy, Audie)

I really wanted Cookie at one point but when I got her I instantly started to regret it. It turns out that I just really don't like pink villagers no matter how much I like their designs.

Its not weird at all!
How a villager looks really changes how you view what they say.

The only Normal I've ever really bonded with is Megan. From her I view her words as authentic and caring. From every other normal I've had, the words were boring.

I've got sandy on my second island and although I've not grown to LOVE her, I'm growing very fond of her.

A great example of dialogue coming from different villagers is smugs. When raymond says he has a shoe collection I see it as him being stylish. Those words coming from Graham made me think those shoes weren't for wearing...

Dom - I hate this sheep
He would make a great peppy... jock... no way

Marcie is my current enemy. I'd had both the male kangaroos before, but never a female one with a baby. So I was excited to have her! After a while, I was a bit meh cos taking pics were a pain due to the fact she's noseless, so looks even weirder head-on than normal and that she never so much as acknowledged her child, beyond having some toys strewn about on her floor. Dunno how the kid would actually get to play with them mind. But still, I wasn't gonna kick her out.

Then I was redesigning my island to a city theme and her house just wasn't gonna work. I was initially a little sad to see her go. But you see, I HAVE to get the villagers photo before they leave. The other 3 were no problem at all and I waved them off easily enough, happily clutching their photos. This was weeks ago now. Marcie has STILL not handed over her damn photo of her and her pink noseless brat. I am fuming! I have given her gifts wrapped in pink wrapping paper EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. But she still ain't coughing up. I am so annoyed that I have to be nice to her during this time. I so want to smack her with my net. Ugh!

Other honourable mentions - I had Molly, who a lot of people seem to adore. I was pleased when she showed up at my campsite, but then she just seemed to fade into the background. I had no problem with her at all, but I just didn't get that urge to dote on her, you know? So I let her go almost as soon as I got her pic.

Another one was Kyle, who I thought was a beautiful design...but he just seemed to become very sleazy haha. It might have been an outfit he kept wearing, coupled with his vomit-inducingly smugness. But he really got my back up and was the first I actively sought to get rid of in NH.

I'm completely with you on females kangaroos.
They seem cute at first.
Then you realise the kid they have never ages, is never acknowledged, has no name, copies every expression the mother has...
Its not a child.
Its a second head growing out of their stomach.

They are so creepy and just the worst.

I'm currently really into Rooney though so he will be moving to my island soon.

Please can we have female kangaroos without a creepy second head as a growth out their chest?

Hahahaha yeah or like the nurse in south park. Thanks, now I have even more reason to hate her and her weird tumour that she has on display that looks exactly like her.

I used to run into this problem early in the game, but now thanks to dream suite I’m able to visit villagers and interact with them before inviting them. My island’s lineup is solidified now though so not an issue, but def pro tip for those on the fence about any villager they haven’t actually met yet

Happens all the time to me lol.

I had so many ideal villagers before the game's release for my tropical island, I wanted all aquatic creatures like Marina or Lily. Or Hopkins cuz he looks like an inflatable pool toy. O'Hare w/ his tropical-themed house and his beach bum aesthetics, etc.

Then when I got Marina she was hardly around, couldn't find her even at the museum so that became annoying fast. Meanwhile a friend's Marina was always cutely walking around outside on the beach or in her downtown area. Also had Lily and she was so sweet & loved her interior but she never really interacted w/ the other villagers.

Saw O'Hare & Hopkins on the mystery island & campsite & promptly changed my mind. Just didn't like them up close I guess, who knows.

Hated normal villagers in NL cuz they bored me so didn't plan on having any in NH. Then I saw them on mystery islands & they were so cute and at one point last year I had 4 normals ha!

Most recent is T-Bone. Always wanted him cuz he reminds me of a water buffalo, perfect for my island. Just got him last month and he's cute but his house is too fancy and I'm not feeling it. I'm now waiting for him to get the moving bubble lol.

Merry. There's something off-putting about her face. I had her in my town in the very beginning, but had to get rid of her.

Raymond— I was excited when I ran across him on my campsite, so I went ahead and added him to my trope. However, I was not really impressed with him after a few weeks, so he went fairly quickly.

Fauna— honestly, despite her beautiful design, she is pretty boring, even for a normal villager. Luckily, I was able to replace her with Deirdre, who has a much more interesting personality and home.

Purrl— I loved Purrl’s look and home, which is why I initially invited her. However, the whole snooty personality was a turnoff for me— they just seem so “stuffy old lady” to me, and it did not work for my island. It was a little hard to giver her up, but I kept thinking, “Purrl is just not making me happy,” so I let her go.

Phoebe— My first villager, and I was stoked to have her. However, like all first villagers, her house was junk, and she was one of the few that would not successfully update it when I gifted her new furniture. Also, I felt I could get more interesting villagers if I gave her up. It was sad, but she needed to go.

Sparro— I loved having Sparro- he was like a cute little kid and sort of a combo jock/lazy/smug type. Honestly, I enjoyed him throughout, but his house layout was cramped, and eventually he added some furniture that literally blocked him in the back half of his house so that I was unable to reach him. It made him unplayable, so I let him go. I learned to avoid villagers who start with big furniture in the center of their homes that might result in a similar situation.

I haven't had this situation in New Horizons because I decided which villagers I wanted to be permanent residents (until/unless I get bored of them eventually and decide to swap someone out who still fits my island's theme) and none of them have turned out negatively.

In New Leaf, though, I really loved Whitney's design and acquired her, only to discover that her design only looked good in a side-view due to the way her eyes are depicted. I got rid of her shortly thereafter. I don't know whether this has been addressed in New Horizons since neither I nor the friends I played with (when they still played) have had her, I don't really play with strangers other than purchasing items from shops here on the forums, and I've never utilized the Dream Suite in this game so I've never encountered her.

I still dislike a lot of villagers
Yes but the question is what villagers did you think you would like, but once you got them on your island, found yourself not liking.

If you disliked them from the outset then it doesn't apply to this thread :p

Well I thought I’d like Dom and Megan but I’m not liking them now
and I thought I’d like Skye and Rosie but I’m not liking them at all

I found Billy on a mystery island and thought he was cute and adopted him but then I didn't like him. So I've replaced him with Molly. I didn't like how his house was literally trash and cardboard.

Also, Deena. I thought I'd like her but she turned out to be very boring imo. I will replace her with a different villager.

If I may, I‘d like to nominate Gaston as a villager I did NOT want, and absolutely detested. I had an open villager slot that I could not fill in time due to a lack of NMTs, and the next day, I found that this grouchy, mustachioed rabbit with an awful personality and even worse rat’s nest of a house had moved in. It was like a hobo-looking squatter rushed in and demolished my beautiful island with his garbage.

Anyway, long story short, I spent two hours TTing to the first campsite visitor to replace him. No way was I going to let this travesty pass!

Forgot to mention Megan. I wanted her when I started the game cuz she was so cute but ended up being freaked out by her.

Her side smile/smirk unnerves me, esp. when she told me at the museum one night that she wasn't expecting anyone alive to be there at that hour...I know what she meant but it's just the way she said it, so she had to go after that lol.

Beau

He was like in my Top 10 for Villagers I wanted, and I found him not too long after finding Filbert. I felt bad cause it was basically a ticket for Filbert to go, but I really adored Beau's looks. But then I came upon the realization that the Mountain Song is one of the most obnoxious songs in the game and it's playing in Beau's home. Beau ended up leaving before I even got his photo cause that blasted song in his home was insanely annoying. Sometimes I'm tempted to bring him back to at least get his photo, or maybe I can keep him if I just don't visit him when he's inside. That song ruined him. He's adorable outside of that though.

Etoile

I ordered her card when the hype was real on them. I had Filbert and Peanut, so I ended up thinking of them as those star children and wanted Etoile to go with the theme. The general theme lasted a bit and even Judy and Julian were amongst my island to fit into the star theme I had going on. But in the end, I just found her pretty boring. The best thing about her is her shade of purple. Well the other beast thing about her is that she looks like Kirby cosplaying as a sheep. Seriously, her face just looks like Kirby. Otherwise she never stood out to me, and I dropped her after Julian when I started deconstructing the star theme from my island. And to be honest, I haven't used her furniture.

Sherb.

I wanted to get all of the new villagers for a stay on my island, and Sherb was pretty cute. But when I got him, he just felt... Very bland. Maybe it's because I already had Claude on my island to fit the lazy theme, but that doesn't explain why I still loved having Dizzy on my island at one stage. I recently moved him out.
