Visiting another island question

I am currently visiting a Northern Hem island looking for bugs and fish that I do not have in my museum. I just want to know that if I caught something I didn't have yet will I still see the YES! or it wont tell me its a new item?

it only shows the YES! when you've caught something for the first time
after you've caught a particular bug or fish it wont say the "yes!" anymore whenever you catch it again.

Thank you cause I was fishing and I was like I wonder if I will still be told if its a new item while I am on another players island

If you look at the critterpedia, it also shows if you have donated the item already.

Hmm I encountered a gift glitch when I was trading last year. Someone gave me a Dungeness Crab in a gift and I was like "how in the world did they do this?" Then when I went back the Museum to donate blathers still took from me since I didn't have it before. Then when I actually did get a Dungeness Crab while diving my character said "yes" so I assume that it was new. That is where the game thinks that you didn't catch it but you already donated to blathers. I am not sure how this person did that but I think its been patched since then.

So yeah I think if you're one someone's island your character will say "yes" and then it will register in the critterpedia. For some reason that gift glitch I mentioned screwed it up. Meaning that the game thinks I didn't catch it, when I already donated it.
