Now I know past AC games had their own features that made them different from one another, however New Horizons seemed to take out features that have been with the series for a long time. The one feature I am glad they got rid of was the whole "Villager Moving Out Randomly" basically if anyone who doesn't know villagers in the older AC games used to move out on their own without telling you. When you log into the game you see a letter from a villager who says "I've moved out" I know people were so upset when their favorite villager moved out. Fortunately New Horizons took that out and replaced it where if a villager has a thought bubble and you talk to them, they will think that they want to move but they ask if you if you want them to move away or stay. I felt like that was such a welcome change that was needed for a while.

What are some features that were from past AC games that you glad was not in New Horizons. This maybe a controversial topic, but we all have different opinions so it would be interesting to hear what you guys think.

I have to agree with the "Villager Moving Out Randomly". When Muffy moved out in my NL town I was really sad. It was around in the beginning when I first played NL and wasn't familiar how villagers move out. It made me a lot more attentive toward my villagers so I guess that was a positive.

Villagers moving in random areas. I can tell you right now. The reason why I hated some villagers was because they moved in a place I didn't want them to be and were very stubborn to move out. Its nice in NH that you can choose where your villager can live.

I'm glad that Reactions can be learned through villagers rather than Dr. Shrunk. Some may miss him but the routines started to annoy me. I do miss the Shrunk Funk Shuffle though.

The jellyfish not stinging anymore. In NL, the jellyfish stung you if went out to swim for awhile and unlike past games you couldnt catch and donate them to the museum. I really hated this. Still not sure to this day what made them want to do this...

i’m definitely extremely happy that villagers can no longer randomly move out as well. i’ll never forget the day that i turned new leaf on for the first time in a week after going through a depressive episode, and being told that beau, my #1 favourite villager at the time, was moving out and that there was nothing i could do to stop it. i didn’t even say goodbye to him, because i tt’d backwards out of desperation for him to stay, but that of course had him move out completely. that moment was an absolute punch to the gut that i’ll lowkey never get over, even though it’s been over 7 years and i now have beau on my new horizons island lol.

also, while he’s not really a feature, i’m happy that lyle isn’t in new horizons. his dialogue was so annoying and took forever to get through, even when mashing the B button, and the way he’d literally chase you until you talked to him in wild world was just... ugh lmao. 💀

That you couldn't edit how your character looked, unless you used Harriet for 3000 bells and even then it was limited. Makes so much more sense to have a mirror, though I ultimately liked Harriet as a character and wouldn't be against her returning in some way.

I'm glad Katie doesn't randomly turn up anymore. I tend to play late at night and would feel so awful if there was nobody I could drop her off to available :(

PWPs. They were the stupidest mechanic imo. You had to pay tons for a lamp post and had a limit!? If you wanted to move it, you had to wait a day to demolish it and then another day to build it again? Who thought this was a fun and good idea?

As much crap as I talk about NH, them making it so you can put furniture outside and be able to move it anywhere at anytime was the best choice ever.

I'm also very relieved that villagers don't move out randomly anymore; New Horizons is a lot more forgiving in that way and I don't feel pressured to play it super regularly if I'm busy or just not in the mood to play. It also means there's no since of dread in returning to the game after a while away, which is something that's prevented me from taking pretty much any time off from New Leaf. ;;

Another thing I'm glad about is that grass deterioration isn't a thing anymore. I like having natural paths in New Leaf, sure, but heaven forbid I stray off my usual route to water some flowers or look for fossils. It felt like I was being discouraged from exploring my town—the path system in New Horizons is much better, in my opinion.

I'm glad they removed:

- Having to tan your character in the sun to get a darker skin tone. It sucks that it took so long for varying skin tones to be available to choose from in Animal Crossing.

- Grass Deterioration. I understand what the concept was behind it, but I personally hated the feature and it could make your town look awful. Thankfully you could fix it if you time traveled ahead a sufficient amount of time, but that's still something I'd just rather not have to deal with.

- Flowers wilting, dying, and needing to be watered daily to survive. As someone who has always had a ton of flowers in their towns, I hated having to water flowers. Thankfully the Beautiful Town ordinance existed, but that also came at the cost of not being able to acquire Golden Roses because the Black Roses had to wilt, to then be watered by the Golden Watering Can, to then turn into Golden Roses. It's so much nicer in New Horizons to just water the Black Roses with the Golden Watering Can without the added stress.

- Jellyfish stinging you if you idle in the ocean.

- Villagers moving into whatever spot they please. It was a pain to have to put down patterns to try to prevent villagers from moving into spots in your town that you don't want them to (and even then, sometimes it wasn't a guarantee that it would work). It's nice that we can now choose where they'll live.

- Villagers moving out potentially without your approval. While there are ways to prevent this in New Leaf, it's still nice that it's not something we have to worry about in New Horizons.

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. Not sure if there's anything else, since I prefer New Leaf over New Horizons for the most part, but if there is, I'll report back.

There are a few things I am glad are not in NH.
So glad villagers no longer move away without asking. I hated going in and my favorite villagers were gone with no notice.

Glad they can no longer place their houses wherever they want. So much of my plans were destroyed when someone randomly moved in.

grass deterioration. So glad I don’t have huge dirt spots everywhere.

I like they took out the jellyfish when swimming.

PWP’s I liked the items but hated the cost so much to place them. Then if you put it in the wrong place it was costly to move them.So happy I can place and move items without the cost.

I'm glad they got rid of the following:
-Grass deterioration. While I never had an issue with it in NL, I did in CF.
-Flowers wilting. While flowers growing like crazy can be a nuisance, I much prefer having too many flowers than none at all because they died.
-Club LOL. I like Shrunk and I like KK, but not in Club LOL. KK outside in the fresh air is how it should be (or in The Roost) and hopefully we'll get Shrunk somewhere. Club LOL just felt like the opposite vibe I wanted from an Animal Crossing game.
-Blathers lack of dialogue. Thank goodness they brought back his explanation AND gave an option for people who don't want to listen.
-Jellyfish in the water while diving. Just annoying and unnecessary.
-Public Works Projects. Free outside decorating is way better than spending hundreds of thousands of bells for a bench outside that can't anywhere near another tree or building.
-Bad Luck or at least the tripping part of it. I don't mind the luck mechanic, but the tripping when you had bad luck was mad annoying. I almost didn't want to play on days where I had bad luck.

Tripping randomly. Much like Brawl, tripping added absolutely nothing of value to the game and only resulted in annoyance and frustration.

At least, to me anyway. I had no problem with it being tied to specific items, since to avoid it I could just not wear the items.

I, like most people agree on the villagers randomly moving out. I hated that. Especially if I had dreamies, and they just leave me without warning.

I also am so glad I don't have to pay bells to have my character's appearance be changed. I think it's so much better that you can do it whenever you want without having to pay every time. Sorry Harriet, but I actually really don't want you to make a return. 😂

Also very happy you now have complete control over where villager houses and buildings go. That is something I do not miss about acnl, is how villagers would move into the worst possible spots. And it was so much work to get them to put their houses where you wanted them.

I think that I am glad they got rid of the same things that other people are glad to see are gone.

Grass deterioration is definitely a huge one that I'm glad is gone. It's probably the number one thing that I'm happy to see is no longer in play.

The second thing that I like the most is the absence of villagers just plopping down wherever on your island. That was highly annoying.

And then I'm glad that we have the opportunity to deny somebody moving out. The only reason this isn't higher on my list is because I do enjoy getting new villagers. So when one decided to move away, I wouldn't get too upset about it. The only one I never let leave was Fang. He was always my home boy.

Very interesting how there's quite a few of you that didn't enjoy the dangers of the jellyfish. I liked it because it added a mini-game effect and I like panic swimming to get away from it, lol. The ocean is dangerous!

Random villager home visits:
I'm glad they removed the random villager visits. I don't enjoy villagers waltzing into my home while I was looking through my storage. It was worse when you were in the main room because they'd just bust in. (I always hid in the other rooms or immediately left the house to make them go away)

Random villager move outs/move ins:
The move outs were sad and gave you that fear that it might happen at anytime. The randomly placed move ins were awful. I used the PWP benches as blocks to keep them from placing their houses on flowers/bushes/trees I planted.

Shampoodle/Harriet:
While I do like the character and her design. The whole process of choosing hair colors and the style was a bit tedious. I switched between pink and the light brown (tea?) hair colors but ran the risk of being a teensy bit off the slider. So I'd sometimes get the darker brown and I get that's more of a personal mistake. I really like now in acnh, we just need a mirror.

Grass Deterioration
Tanning

I think we can all agree with the villagers moving out randomly. Not having to worry about my favorite villagers moving out is a huge weight off my shoulders. I hope this feature is here to stay with the next mainline game.

I know some people feel the opposite, but I'm glad they toned down the frequency of villager requests from New Leaf. Sometimes I just want to check in on things for 10 minutes, but then I talk to a few villagers and one wants a new piece of furniture for their house, one wants to come over to my house later in the day, one wants a specific fish or bug, etc.

That said, NH may have went too far in the other direction since favors are so rare now.

I would fix it by adding another dialogue option the player could choose that says "do you need anything" so the player could initiate favors/requests when they wanted.
