• Guest, can you feel the love in the air? Valentine's Week at The Bell Tree has begun with a new mini-event featuring four activities to enjoy -- new and returning collectibles are up for grabs! Dive in to the love here.

What features are you glad they got rid of in New Horizons?

THIS! Charlise was the absolute WORST for this. I couldn't understand it at all. Egbert was also pretty bad, but Charlise took months to stop doing this and just leave.
This also happened to me in New Leaf when Ed asked me he was thinking of moving out and when I told him yes he was like "Nah I am going to say here because we are such good friends" Like what? That just felt so annoying.

A huge one for me, the gosh awful rant from Resetti when not saving a game. I sometimes didn’t want something to save, and having to sit through his tantrum would be enough to keep me playing for months.

Gyroids

I know they are well liked in the community and a lot of people hope for their return... but I always hated them. Mainly because they were everywhere. Most of the time when I got exited for digging up a fossil - it was just a gyroid. I also didn´t like their silly movements and sounds.

A few would have been ok... but there are over 100. You just cannot outrun them... :(
I miss the old gyriods deeply. If only Brewster could store them for you again like he did in wild world… or was it city folk? It’s been too long 😅

I……..didn’t even realize they would ask you to find specific fish and bugs. I’ve never seen anyone do that in 18 months of gameplay. They only ever ask me for the ones in my pockets.
It’s pretty rare for me, I’m not sure how rare or common it’s supposed to be, but I’ve had it happen two or three times since the game released. One of those times I received a villager’s photo for it!

Even though the moving system is more “robotic”, I prefer it for this game. In GC-CF I think villagers moving out was fun, but with the addition of the campsite and further lean towards aesthetics, I didn’t like villagers moving out while you were gone in NL. I do miss being able to stop them while they’re in boxes, like in WW. Not like it would be needed in NH, but I always thought that removing it was weird in CF/NL.

Here’s an underappreciated one. The old letter system wasn’t very good. It was annoying having to take a trip to the post office to store letters when you regularly received them and ran out of room in your pockets. It was fun tossing extra items in letters, but that was it and it was a bandaid for the inventory space anyway. I’m so glad it was overhauled. rip to the post office itself, but mail just got annoying in the other games. I guess they could have overhauled it to have a “souvenir shop” angle to it with items available in different colors?

I agree with a lot of things others have said (villagers moving in/out randomly, grass deterioration, etc.), but one that comes to mind is catchphrase swapping. Just why? In NL I have Bunnie saying 'teacup' and Keaton saying 'highness' instead of their original catchphrases and it just doesn't make any sense . . . At least in NH it only happens when you change a villager's catchphrase.

villagers randomly moving out was the absolute worst (especially since amiibo weren't immune to it, i couldn't imagine doing the annoying 3 days of crafting to move someone in on my island and then they randomly move out lmao)

being stuck with an eye design or hairstyle/color because you answered questions a certain way, i like being able to freely change my eyes/hair at will (though i do wish shampoodle was actually brought back and functioned more like the new pokemon games)

- Villagers moving out without your permission
- Grass deterioration
- Flower destruction
- Being stuck with your starter face
- The tanning nonsense
- Sea creatures escaping through the net
- Villagers visiting your home... until they had to bring it back -__-"

So many things from ACNL:
-Villagers suddenly moving away.
-No fixed placement for villagers to move in.
-Grass deterioration
-Flowers wilting and accidentally being destroyed.
-Public works furniture having a limit.
-Being stuck with a bad hairstyle for a day because you misclicked.
-The character customization being determined by how you respond to some questions.

Besides villagers no longer moving out without telling you, I like the new personality subtypes. They're still sort of unbalanced but they make repeating personalities less annoying.
