• Guest, can you feel the love in the air? Valentine's Week at The Bell Tree has begun with a new mini-event featuring four activities to enjoy -- new and returning collectibles are up for grabs! Dive in to the love here.

What features are you glad they got rid of in New Horizons?

Grass deterioration and random villager move-in/out are the features I disliked the most.

I never really delved into flower breeding so I didn't mind much about flowers wilting and getting destroyed.

Grass deterioration was a huge eyesore...completely forgot about that.

I know people liked the villagers coming over to their houses, but I thought it was too frequent. If you were in any room but your main room you got lucky and could just hide out until they stopped 'knocking' (just like real life lol) but if you needed to redo your main room, they came right in and just ate up time.

I agree with most things said!

- Villagers not moving out randomly
THIS IS A GAME CHANGER. It makes New Horizons so much more pick up and play. I parked my New Leaf game on a ‘no mover’ day and I don’t feel like booting up the game again because I’ll have to find the new dang mover
- Villagers not swapping around their initial catchphrases and shirts like maddd. Yes they do spread catchphrases that you suggest for them. But if you leave them alone nothing happens. I’m sick of half my New Leaf town walking around in Fang’s initial shirt and saying Cha-Chomp
- Being able to do fish and bug requests without them being displayed this is amazing!!!
- No grass deterioration and random dead spots, they’re so ugly

I'm gonna add to the "villager randomly moving out" debate and say: the "16 villager cycle"...

You guys remember when we had to go through SIXTEEN different villagers, moving in and moving out, before we could get a dreamie back?

I liked the fact that your old villagers remembered you and all, but cycling through 16 of them just so I could get my sweet Coco back was such a pain.

-Club LOL. I like Shrunk and I like KK, but not in Club LOL. KK outside in the fresh air is how it should be (or in The Roost) and hopefully we'll get Shrunk somewhere. Club LOL just felt like the opposite vibe I wanted from an Animal Crossing game.

Totally agree, I always felt like Club LOL was a bit out of place, style and vibe-wise.
I miss the Marquee though...

Wait, what?! How, please? Is there a specific way to stop them from displaying these things? Thank you!!
If they ask you to catch them a fish or a bug and you fulfil that request they won’t display it ^^ if they ask you to *buy* or trade a fish or a bug you *already* have in your inventory they’ll display it. Because it’ll be like accepting a furniture trade, not a fishing quest

Gyroids

I know they are well liked in the community and a lot of people hope for their return... but I always hated them. Mainly because they were everywhere. Most of the time when I got exited for digging up a fossil - it was just a gyroid. I also didn´t like their silly movements and sounds.

A few would have been ok... but there are over 100. You just cannot outrun them... :(

I……..didn’t even realize they would ask you to find specific fish and bugs. I’ve never seen anyone do that in 18 months of gameplay. They only ever ask me for the ones in my pockets.

Villager move outs after a certain time. It's so refreshing being able to take a break, return, and know that your villagers are still living there.

I agree with most things already mentioned in the thread, especially villagers moving out if you hadn't played the game in a while as I lost too many villagers I really loved due to this. It's a much more relaxing game now knowing that I can take a break from it at times and still return to the same villagers. Similarly I'm glad they no longer place their houses randomly anywhere when they move in as often they'd place them on flowers that I was trying to breed or too close to buildings/other houses when I wanted them more spread out, I much prefer been able to pick the exact spot to place villagers homes.

Also I disliked the grass deterioration as it ruined the look of the town for me and I found the dying flowers and having to constantly water them all a pain when I wanted to breed all the hybrids, though the problem with flowers could at least be solved with the Beautiful Town ordinance that I always keep in effect in NL.

Been able to place furniture outside easily without spending a large amount of bells on it is another big improvement for me in NH, I'm always very slow to enact pwps in NL even though there are quite a few I want to place in my town because I don't want to place them somewhere that I end up unhappy with then have to spend even more bells demolishing and rebuilding them.

Villagers moving into random spots on your island and leaving deteriorated grass where their house was after moving out. It was always such a chore in acnl welcome amiibo using the plot resetting method to place my villager houses and I have memories of spending hours mapping everything out just to find out that i missed a spot and they moved into the wrong place haha

I'm also very relieved that villagers don't move out randomly anymore; New Horizons is a lot more forgiving in that way and I don't feel pressured to play it super regularly if I'm busy or just not in the mood to play. It also means there's no since of dread in returning to the game after a while away, which is something that's prevented me from taking pretty much any time off from New Leaf. ;;

Another thing I'm glad about is that grass deterioration isn't a thing anymore. I like having natural paths in New Leaf, sure, but heaven forbid I stray off my usual route to water some flowers or look for fossils. It felt like I was being discouraged from exploring my town—the path system in New Horizons is much better, in my opinion.
I sooooo agree about the grass wear. That awful feature absolutely RUINED City Life for me.

I remember my friend used to really complain when she told me that a Hippo villager moved into their town in New Leaf and it destroyed her golden flowers of where the plot was placed.

Villagers visiting me randomly: It was sooo annoying back in New Leaf, I would be fixing up the inside of my house and here comes one of my villagers.

Villagers moving out randomly (without warning sometimes!): Never was a fan of that one or the one back in the GC version, thank goodness there was no WiFi for that one. The villagers in that game could move away if you visit your friend or sibling's town (visiting by memory card) and there's no way to stop it!

Villagers pretty much turning their house into a closet: I use to hate this back in CF, NL and especially WW. If the villagers on that game (WW) is into a hobby on there, they would throw out everything in their house for that one hobby. Like if one is into collecting bugs, they would want their entire room decorated with the bugs you caught for them.

This old picture I took back in WW. Just look at Static's room.

Grass deterioration: I was okay with it in NL, but not in CF. My very first CF town was a desert because of this. 😭

Edited: Seen someone talking about the clothes thing back in New Leaf, My gosh I hated that one too! One town I had, everyone was wearing the same outfit!

This fr. The way that villagers changed clothing without warning and would constantly take all the basic designs from the Able Sisters always bugged me. Especially since there was no reliable way to get them to change into anything besides the ugly gym shirts they would wear if you reported them too much. So glad NH let us gift villagers with clothing instead of giving the villagers free-choice because they clearly can't handle it!

Haha I laughed at that picture with Static. That was like rubbing salt in the wound where he acts like he doesn't care about you when he's moving out. Wild World was sure crazy with its villagers being really mean. Also wow I never knew they would keep their items scattered like that. I appreciate New Horizons more for that Recycle Bin because a lot times after they move out they like to leave one of their items behind.

Thank goodness for New Horizons letting us decide what villagers can and cannot wear. Also Isabelle despite how many times she's been made fun of for her announcements is at least useful when you talk to her and she can tell the villager to change out their clothing if you didn't like it. Its something I never use personally, but I remember someone left a bad custom design on my island and I had no idea where it came from, turns out it came from inside Able Sisters on the rack next to Sable. This was last year btw.

  • Unbreakable rocks. Messing up my straight paths.
  • Villagers who change their mind about moving. It’s always a villager I want gone that stays.

Here are two things:

- Villager randomly move out without telling you. I hate to see the villagers I like leave.

- Grass deterioration. I don't like seeing a lot of dirt and less grass.

I will say, but watch them add them back into the game in the direct.

Gyroids. All they did was make finding fossils more awkward.
If they made a way for you to collect them as part of a set like you do with the museum I would like them for a time. But really they are just vendor trash that always got in my way.

The other one is luck.
Bad luck days suck. And normal luck days were disappointing because you know it could have been a good luck day, but it wasn't.
And katrina always wanted you to wear clothing that you don't own and wasn't on sale.
Glad it's gone.

THIS! Charlise was the absolute WORST for this. I couldn't understand it at all. Egbert was also pretty bad, but Charlise took months to stop doing this and just leave.
