To create the perfect enviroment for my fish I use 5 bags of roibos tea which gives the water a tea like appearance which is how the native enviroment of the fish that I have would look like but it also makes the fish healthier and less susceptible against diseases because this tea contains only tannins and nothing else.
I also have a bunch of dried oak leaves on the bottom which release tannins as well when exposed to water for long periods of time but they can also work as hiding spaces for bottom dwellers like catfish and baby fish can also use the leaves both as a food source because micro organisms known as infusoria grow on it but also to hide from larger fish that may try to eat it.
I currently have 2 german blue ram cichlids a male and a female although they can be quite agressive to each other especially when one of them get's too close to the other territory of the other fish or during feeding.
I am also considering breeding these fish not only because they can be amazing parents unlike most fish such as cardinal tetras that practice filial cannibalism(eating the babies/developing eggs) and that if they feel the babies are threathened they suck in the babies inside their mouth for them to hide in there until they feel it's safe for them to come out of hiding.
Fish can be much more fascinating than what it may look like to people who are not into the fish hobby or those who think fish are boring such as little kids and people who only like furry and cuddly pets like dogs and cats.
