Potatoes are tubers, which are either roots or a product of a root (don’t know exactly which) and grow directly underground. Gourds (like pumpkins) are produced by a vine above ground, which means they are not tubers (and therefore not potatoes)

Botanically, this isn’t correct. Vegetables are strictly the non-seed-bearing parts of a plant. Unless you’re talking about the non-gourd part of the plant, pumpkins are not vegetables.
