I'm curious if many other people have a meaning behind their island name or whether they just chose a name they liked the sound of!
My island name is Azevinho which is Portuguese for those spiky bushes with red berries you normally see at Christmas, otherwise known as holly here in England. My name is Holly and I love Portugal so that's what I went with! I wanted an island name that no one else would have that sounded tropical too! I'm currently designing a flag with holly on it and I'm planting holly bushes around my plaza too for when Winter comes around!
What are your island names and what is the meaning behind them? Please share, I'd love to hear all about other peoples' islands!

I chose Oakheart to be similar to Rosewood. I love the name Rosewood and I had an idea to just have roses in my town, but I decided to make my town name around a tree name instead. I also wanted a name that I could design a town flag around easily. So, Oakheart was born!

I honestly couldn't think of a name I liked. Some of them I considered were just so out of there that I knew I was going to outgrow it come a month or more. I remember just making my town name be Nintendo, It was unoriginal and when I came back to play the game after a hiatus, I regretted not thinking harder on a name, but I was also younger. (In NL I mean)

So I considered trying a more practical and common island name. I eventually settled with Cedar Cove cause I like the smell of cedar wood and I like nature/working with wood.

I love that! So creative and sounds really peaceful!

Ahh I love it! I can picture how natural it looks with all the Cedar trees

it's anura because apparently it sort of means frog, but when i google it i get a bunch of wine results also so like :'/ not my intention. i like frogs a lot and wanted something frog related that wasn't my new leaf frog town's name or just Frog. so yea. i don't love it because it looks a bit awkward but idk, i like The Froggy Message

I like it! I expect there are a lot of frog villagers on your island then? Im hoping to have Lily at some point! :D

Mine is Skagway. For a project I had to do airport related stuff and was given a bulk of airport ID codes to work through, one of them being the code PAGY, which is a dope place in Alaska called skagway. I found the location and name so distinct that I memorized the airport code :)

Tierinsel

it is German for Animal Island
Ich liebe es! Sehr schön ;)

My previous AC town names have all been just gibberish so I wanted to go with something using real words this time around. I was actually searching for coffee inspired names cause I really like coffee and apparently Rainshine is a coffee blend that Starbucks has? And I actually loved the name idea! I ditched any coffee association though and just sort of went with a literal interpretation of "rain" and "shine".

I've always sort of associated rain with animal crossing because I love rainy days in the game. It barely ever rains where I live so I experience so much more rain in AC than real life. So for me it really just captured my memories of AC and I though it sounded cute :)
