(sorry i'm posting so much on this thread i love creature talk)
i can't really see raccoons becoming a species, other than the obvious reason (tom nook being closely related and being a main face of animal crossing) they don't have much physical variety to them. unless they broaden it to procyonidae and include like coati, ringtails, kinkajous, and cacomistles they're going to have to get really creative with that one.
then again they included a german shepherd and an african wild dog under "wolf" so you never know.
i'd love more dog variety, i really don't like the current dog models' bean shaped heads. butch is cute but they're a really sad excuse for a rottweiler lmao.
it'd be nice if we could get breeds with upright ears that wouldn't look right being wolves, like dobermans or bostons or shiba inus. it's a shame that the only chihuahua was a one-time npc too.

I've always wanted there to be different types of dogs, but I guess they just did that to distinguish the animals in one category rather than confusing it.
