What weird foods have you had?

I have tried several Mexican delicacies such as lengua(beef tongue),tripas de leche(cow intestines),cabeza de res(meat from a cow's head) and menudo(soup made with beef tripe(cow's stomach)).They sure don't want to waste any of that cow.Lengua and cabeza de res are actually very good but I didn't really like the other two.Goat cheese is delicious.Just about every supermarket where I live sells it.

Okay yeah goat cheese may not be so weird, it's just not common where I live. Same as lamb, not as common as like turkey, chicken, cow, ect...

Alot of the foods I've listed in the first post I've had at food festivals of some sort, if not all of them.

Yes, depending on where you live some food are more or less common. For instance where I live Mexican food is not common, for decades there was not a single Mexican restaurant in my area, a few small ones opened recently but I haven't been there yet. I had deer often in fondue but never had real tacos.

Wow, here's the complete opposite, I have so many Spanish/Latin/Hispanic/Mexican ect... types of food places here, but so far I've only really been to commercial places, not really any hole-in-the-wall true to true dining experience places that will serve beef every part of the cow.

being veggie/mostly vegan I haven’t and have no desire to try most “weird” foods haha; I have had goat’s cheese before and it was quite nice!

This is basically the same for me since I don't like or eat much meat. I keep it very simple as far as animal products go...your basic chicken, turkey, beef and the occasional pork.

I will try almost any non-meat dish, but I don't think anything I've ever had would be considered adventurous in that department. Because I live in a small town, there just aren't that many opportunities to try different things. It was a huge deal when we got an actual Indian restaurant in town, and I think the only reason it stays in business is because my company contracts a lot of people from India and they frequent the place. I see very few non-Indian customers whenever I go there.

I have had goat cheese, but I don't consider it weird. I liked it well enough. Not my favorite cheese, but since cheese is my favorite food, there are very few kinds that I don't like.

Goat cheese and lamb arent even remotely weird lol. Yall need to go out to eat more.

I had frog legs, chickens hearts, cinnamon sugar crickets (taste like popcorn), stuffed cow tongue (my grandma used to make it), calf brain fritters with garlic sauce (my grandma also makes this), and ive had chicken gizzard soup. Puerto Ricans cook with a lot of instestines lol.

It could all be different for many people, by location or family traditions. Even if it happens to be "common" where they are, doesn't mean it can't be weird for them lol. We all have our own taste pallets as well. :)

Oh for my entry, from what I can remember:

Cow testicles, fried? We were in a shop where we were eating buffalo wings, and our friend handed me a platter of round fried ball things. Was chewy and asked what it was... I regret asking lol!

Frog legs. These are pretty common in Chinese restaurants, but can never get into them. My little brother would also "hunt" by the lake by our apartment and bring in a frog or toad, and cook it fresh. While tastes better than the restaurant's, it still tastes off to me.

Gizzards. These aren't uncommon either, but just not for me :(

Talking about weird food...Well it's not weird but we have a very common dish that everybody here know but other Canadians and Americans don't seem to have heard about. We call that Chinese fondue, although it's not really Chinese, maybe it got inspired by the Chinese one but it's more of a North American version. It's fine slices of meat (beef, chicken, pork), shrimps and veggies cooked in broth, then dipped in a sauce (often made of mayonnaise and other condiments). That's the basic recipe but they sell all kind of meat for this, emu, kangaroo, crocodile, boar, wapiti..etc. At home with my father, it was often deer and moose. It's very common, like mac & cheese. Ever heard of this?

It looks like this:

i dont think theyre that weird but i love "msareen," which is basically stuffed intestines

edit: im shocked that someone on this planet exists that finds lamb a weird food... this is like the main type of meat im used to eating and i eat it in many different dishes so frequently... like WAT ??? (with all due respect)

It's a little hard to try "weird" stuff when you don't eat meat. Was vegetarian for 15 years and I've been pescatarian for the last 7 years. But I tried escargot and alligator as a kid and liked them both. And I grew up eating deerburger all year long because my dad was a hunter.

I try to try anything new at least a few times, but I had natto (japanese fermented soy beans) once and it was the grossest thing I have ever put in my mouth. I don't really regret the experience, but I'll never go near it again!

the only thing I can think of that may be slightly uncommon depending on where you live is squirrel lol. my dad would fry their legs.

Oh. I didn't know natto is uncommon outside Japan. I just assumed it's common like tofu, as healthy food. I do love natto btw. It's low calorie & nutritional.

before going vegan i was pretty into chicken hearts and i also loved the chewy-ness of tripe especially in pho

what bout cooked frog? I got conviced from me granparents that it was chicken

Frog isn't bad. I had it a few years ago, but I think it kinda tasted like chicken? It was fried.

What does this say about chicken thou?

uh. me granparents told (convinced) me it was chicken, so I said okay and ate it. Few mins later, I realize I ate frog. It does taste like chicken XD

My dad did a similar thing with snails haha. He gave me this nice looking hollow bread ball with green stuff inside. I was at a food festival so I thought it was seasoned beef. I asked and he said yes so I tried it. AFTER I ate it he said it was escargot. It's good thou, I don't regret it.

The weirdest thing I've eaten is calamari haha. I live in a pretty homogenously white town, so we don't really have any world cuisine. I'm not really an adventurous eater, but I think if I traveled I'd try local dishes. I do love watching No Reservations and other food/travel shows and seeing all the cool world cuisine, even if some of it is very questionable to me haha. Oh I've also had elk and bison and I didn't like it at all. I'm not a big fan of meat so I eat mostly vegetarian. (And I've never eaten lamb, so it's not that common in some areas)

dude where i live we have this dish thats like. rice and chicken but the sauce of the rice has blood on it? and its so gross it freaks me out. used to love it as a kid though... lets just say when i figured out that red sauce wasnt just tomato some of my morals changed heavily

I had a sandwhich with green beans and avocado on it. It's a specialty food but I don't remember what it is called. It was pretty good

I've eaten ants, they're kinda nutty.

Also, I wouldn't have thought of goat cheese as weird, but since you mention it, I've eaten goat cheese many times.
