So I've been really wanting to play these games for a while. They're on sale right now on Switch but for both games, I'll be paying around a total of $50. However, when it goes on sale as a bundle on Steam, it's under $30 total. This makes me feel like I'm paying more than necessary. The issue is that I don't have a PC yet, and it's windows only so I won't be able to play it until maybe next year even, depending when I can get a PC. I don't *really* want to wait that long to play the game. But knowing the price difference between platforms really has me on the fence. I could wait a long time and just get it on PC and save over $20. OR buy it now and play it sooner on the Switch and spend the extra bucks.
Has anyone played the games on both platforms and can tell me which one was the better experience? If they were both the same price, I would have gone for Switch for sure, because I love playing handheld. But if that version has issues, I might have to just wait instead so I can have the better experience AND save the money. Thanks
If you can wait, I would suggest waiting to get the bundle on steam. Recently both games were on sale for $12 total (lowest price its been) and hopefully it goes back down to that price during the Steam Summer Sale. I also heard that the Ori games crash frequently on the Switch, but I'm not too sure on its current state.
Only problem is if you're building a pc and plan to get any of the latest parts (Ryzen 5000 CPUs/Nvidia 3000 GPUs) its going to be very difficult to buy them. If you don't plan to buy the most up to date computer it should be easy to buy parts depending on your budget; Ori should be able to run well on a cheaper build too ^_^
I also like to use this site to check sales history of games on Steam:
Haven't played the Switch version, but I've heard a lot of good things about it, they did a good job of porting it to the Switch, and controls were as you'd expect for a Metroidvania. The PC version is fine too and has relatively low system requirements. Of course the big difference is the price. Individually the games have been on sale on Steam itself for just shy of $15 for both, not sure what price the bundle itself went for - it's likely that Will of the Wisps will drop still a little further given a few months. Can't go wrong with either version, just depends if you can wait for it if you decide to go for the PC version. Personally for me the price difference of PC vs Switch makes it a no-brainer despite portability.
I can't really comment on how they play on the PC since I don't have them for PC, but I played Ori and the Blind Forest on the Switch and I had no issues with it throughout the game. Can't really comment on how Ori and the Will of the Wisps performs on the Switch since I haven't played it, alas, but I'm sure it runs just as well as it would on PC. Ultimately I'd say just go with your heart and decide whether you'd be able to go without playing it for a year+ and get it for cheaper on PC, or if you want to play it right away and get it on the Switch.
