Why do people ask about collectible dates?

Hi there! So, I have been on tbt for a little bit, but I still don?t understand why people ask about dates on collectibles. Is it important?
 
So, I think (not an expert) it's based on the order the collectibles go. The newer it is, the more top left it is. Correct me if I made a mistake.

Yep, this is correct. So if you want your collectibles in a very specific order, then you need to make sure you get the dates you need. The newest will always be top left and it goes down the line from there.
 
Oh, that makes perfect sense now. Actually, I'm pretty sure that was the case before I knew anyway.
