Why do users use invisible mode?

Now what I want to know is why completely random people go onto your profile. I've never seen any of these people in the boards I'm usually posting in and all of a sudden I see them pop up in my last user visits. Then sometimes I see they're from a thread I made one post in, but what's the purpose of checking someone's profile? Seems like a waste of time to me.

if you see something going down in the hood, you're gonna wanna investigate.

I don't use invisible mode, but I don't log off very often, so I probably confuse people a lot. I don't know why people are afraid of others seeing their page visits to be honest. It's not like others are going to find out much about your personal life by knowing which threads you looked at.

I have on specific reason, but sometimes I like to have privacy while browsing. :)

Other than the fact that I browse from mobile most of the time and probably wouldn't be available to talk, I don't really like how turning off invisible mode means that the website can track everything you do while online. It can show what thread you're currently viewing, and what you're currently doing. It may have its useful features but I'd be uncomfortable knowing people can track what I'm doing easily :(

Yup, that's why for me too. I used to be on invisible since I first joined. I didn't even think anyone would care what I was doing, but it's just how I am IRL too, I like to lay low, be private, lurk, and be secretive. lol...it's a little nutty, since no one actually cares what I'm doing anyway, but I don't need my every move to be broadcasted either.

I think on one of the TBT events I went off invisible, since a friend needed to know when I was online...and then I never bothered to go back on it. So it's really not that important to me after all.

But that's my reason anyway. Just to be secretive. :)

Sometimes I see someone say something funny or smart, and I want to know more about them...so I check out their profile. IDK, it's not like I'm snooping in their sock drawer, it's their PUBLIC profile! lol...I would be flattered if it happened to me.

Although, I'm always torn about whether or not to let them know that I was there...because of the reasons you said. I feel like they're gonna feel stalked or something...then it gets awkward for me too, and I feel like maybe I AM snooping by looking at their profile.

TBT is very emotionally challenging for inquisitive (aka nosy) introverts like me. :/

Similarly, I used to be on invisible on all my messenger programs because it let me choose when to initiate conversations. It gave me that little bit of power back to know that nobody would (reasonably) expect responses from someone who appears to be offline, so if they did start sending me stuff and I just wasn't feeling it, I could respond at a later time without worrying that I was making them feel like I was ignoring them.
This! Sometimes I like responding later when I've had time to process things and stuff. Sometimes it just takes time to muster courage to reply or keep a convo going. If I'm invisible, it takes the pressure off replying and people don't assume I'm ignoring them.
