Eh..I don't give a rodent's posterior about "industry plants" and whatnot,I just listen to the music and go from there.Billie Eilish is pretty good considering she's only 17.Her stuff reminds me of Sleigh Bells without the heavily distorted guitars.A musician this young is kind of like a child actor.....can they carry their early success with them as they mature or will they fade away after their equally young fan base outgrows them?If we're still talking about "Billy Eyelash" in three years,we'll know the answer.

Personally I'm not a big fan of her, but "edgier" music seems to becoming more into the mainstream as of late. But she's doing her own thing right now and is pretty successful so far. Her one song is #2 on the Billboard 100 this week.

Social media helped of course. She had the video of her with the tarantula in her mouth a while ago and the "I'm a bad guy" memes were popular like a month ago.

also yeah it's really not that achieving to break thru with all the social media channels and doing your own thing and only counting in followers and streams etc. not to sound edgy myself but honestly a lot of this music is just crap.

I think she's okay, but a lot of her music isn't for me, mostly because a lot of it is 1. A little on the minimalist side (I tend to like really intense music), and 2. Her voice can be a bit whisper-y and I find it unnerving, it almost feels like that ASMR thing and I really don't like that. "Bad Guy" has been stuck in my head for a while though.
