Why is everyone on this site so obsessed with villagers?

for me, villagers are half of the game / fun
if i have a town full of weird looking villagers, or i simply don't like them, i don't really want play as much thus not enjoying the game to it's fullest extent

it's weird yeah but... it's just how i am xD

They're kind of walking town decoration that you can interact with.. I want my town to look nice so I want villagers that look nice too, pretty much.

Might sound a bit harsh to some people around here, since I know there are alot who get really attached to their villagers D: But for me the dialogue is a bit too redundant to get really attached to them.
But I think Lolly, Merry and Felicity are just so darn adorable everytime i see them walking around.

I don't feel like I obsess over villagers, but they are a major part of the game for me so I'd rather have a town full of villagers that I love rather than ones I hate.

I can definitely relate to this thread! Villager interaction isn't a big part of the game for me anymore. It was when I was like 9 years old and playing the GameCube version, I guess because I was young, the game was new and fresh to me, and the dialogue was the best out of all the AC games (AC:WW's is good as well, imo). But as I've gotten older, I just find the dialogue a little too repetitive, and not so interesting. Like you'll have them over to your house and they'll say the same thing three times in a row, or they'll ask for a fruit practically every other day. It's just not very realistic, so it's hard for me to suspend disbelief and see the villagers as real (and therefore get attached). Another thing is the copy-and-pasted personalities, all the peppies saying the same things, all the jocks saying the same things... so it's hard for me to see them as unique individuals. :/ (And that's why the cute ones are the most popular, since they all say the same things anyway.)

I probably sounded harsh there, but it's not like I don't enjoy having villagers in my town. I still talk to them sometimes, right now the rumor about me is that I'm a "pro-listener." And I have some sentimental favorites from past games, where the dialogue was better. But talking to villagers isn't a main draw for me compared to landscaping, collecting, gardening, interacting with other players, and just walking around enjoying my town.

I have certain dream neighbors because I like the idea of having a stable town of residents who will be there year after year - multiple Christmases, Halloweens, etc. The thought of that does make me somewhat sentimental, actually :') It would feel like a tight-knit community, which appeals to me much more than having a constant influx of new villagers who all say the same things but look different...

Maybe because villagers are like friends to others c: So they want that villager to become their friend.

Game isn't fun if you have villagers like Hippeux in your town.
But that's just my opinion.

To be honest, it is very important to me because I love interacting with the animals, it's my favorite thing. There are so many villager personalities and designs that once you get one in your village that you really want it feels awesome.

I got sucked into that whole ideal town thing, so I plant flowers, made paths, put up lots and lots of PWPs, I enjoy it a lot.

i dont talk to my villagers much either except my bf phil
it just the same old recycled lines every time i do talk to them, so i dont think im missing much... ha

thats the thing with animal crossing for me. it gets old

Villager interacting makes a huge part of the game for me. I just wish you could go right up to a villager and ask them for a job like in the Gamecube version. As a child, I'd spend hours just running around doing jobs for villagers.

And, even though if you've interacted with one character of one personality you've pretty much interacted with them all, it's nice to have characters who are visually appealing while doing so.

I think that the concept of exchanging villagers ruined the imagination of Animal Crossing. The excitement of meeting a villager that you haven't met before is such a thrilling sensation! The ability to get rid of them in exchange for a villager that you want, makes them seem like an item. They aren't silver items, they aren't golden items, and they definitely aren't special furniture. They're villagers. They come and go. They live in our towns, and they interact with us. They're villagers. They aren't items. Go ahead and have your precious realism! I'm just going to be here hanging out with villagers that have decided to be in my town!

I don't collect villagers, but I do get attached to them, and I do want their pictures, so I talk to mine all the time. It is a little odd at first to hear villagers with the same personality having the same voice and having the same lines, but I guess I flesh them out in my mind, often using their house as inspiration.
