Both. I want a foresty island with lots of plants, but I definitely will be using paths (maybe mostly dirt paths though) and I’ll make a shopping area, etc.

I'll play naturally, but my island won't look natural if that makes sense. I like structure and paths.

I have ideas but nothing fleshed out. I’d need an island first, lol.

It'd be planned. With natural elements added here and there.

One area that I know I want is a secluded forest surrounded by a lake that you cross using a bridge. This'll be where the islanders houses will be placed. It'll be kind of like a maze until you reach the museum at the top, which'll be surrounded by trees just to keep the whole "bug catching" aesthetic.

As for everything else, not sure yet. I kind of want the paths to lead from point A to B only sometimes though. I'd like to keep things not necessarily as spacious as possible but to still have that kind of freedom to wander where you'd like.

I feel like people who are able to plan out their designs to a T are... really interesting?

I can't plan something so large scale when theres still SO MUCH we don't know about our limitations. It works out since I don't have any specific ideas for my town anyway. Regardless, it's still nice to see what people have in mind for their islands

I agree with you. Planning out pathways are especially hard for me.

I am stuck between either one! I don't think that I'm going to go fully natural as I am a planner naturally lol, but the theme of my town largely will be natural. I am especially stuck between whether or not I want to try and put all my villagers' houses in a little "neighborhood" in one section or if I want to scatter them throughout the island to give it more of a GC/village feel! I'm leaning toward the latter but we'll see lol.

Im planning everything! I want my Island to have a strong ambiance!

I've planned ideas for themes and how i might wish things be organized, but i'm hoping the natural island will guide the design. i only plan to excavate truly annoying/inconvenient features, but we'll see how it actually pans out :p

i am having the same thoughts about having a neighbourhood or having it scattered, i think i have settled on having little clusters of houses so like maybe three separate little but im not sure yet

I suppose I should say “specific” ambiance bc nature towns have a strong ambiance too tbqh

yeah the idea of terraforming is exciting but also very overwhelming

I think I'm going to go with the flow at first, and then slowly start planning things out.

i think thats what i'm going to do too, a natural progression

I have to see the island first. From the pictures that they have provided since I have never played the game, I can’t really plan much.
I don’t know how big anything is. I plan to organize and do some planning one I’m able to see the island. Since we know nothing about the rules of planning in the new game and there’s no guide yet, I guess I’m sort of going with the flow for now.

I'm not planning my town, I didn't in New Leaf and like how it turned out well so I don't see the need personally. Besides, in New Horizons it seems we can change so much anyway I'm gonna just swap stuff about and see what sticks.

I don't really know how I'd even plan my island from this moment, but I wouldn't want to anyway. I want to just go with the flow. Besides, I'm still planning out my New Leaf town because I'm trying to make it perfect before New Horizons comes out. :p

go with the flow. for me, planning everything out will bring unnecessary stress to the game

not relevant but do you know if you can get notifications for threads you start? this is my first thread in like 5 years and i don't know how to set up notifications

I sent you a PM, but if you look above the first post of any given thread page, you'll see a "Thread Tools" option. Click on that, and then "Subscribe to this Thread." It'll ask if you want to have emails sent, or have it notify you the same way you get notified when someone likes a post or sends you a private message.
