Hi! So I'm in my final semester of nursing school and I just found out the person I will be shadowing at the end of this semester works overnights. I get to pick what days so I can be more flexible but I still need to complete 84 hours from the 16th of march to the 26th of april. All while being a student and working two 12 hour day shifts on the weekends. Luckily my classes are only on Tuesdays and some fridays/Thursdays (rare but they happen) but that only leaves me a few days to possibly pick up shifts.... if she works those days (monday/wed/thurs)

To everyone who works over night... any tips to balancing my school, work, and this clinical experience??

Edit;
This overnight experience will be ~1 1/2 hours away from me and will either be a 12 or 8 hour shift ;;

That’s so many plates spinning at once!! I’m sorry. I don’t have experience with working overnight wish I could offer you solid advice but all I have are condolences.

But congratulations on almost completing nursing school! That’s so dope.

Thanks!!! It's been 5 very long and stressful years, but I'm finally about to be done!!!!! 2 more months until I graduate and hopefully work with kids.
But yeah lol, it's a lot. I've contemplated quitting my job but I have so many Bills Id feel bad putting rent and utilities all on my bf.

I’m know I’m just your tbt friend but I’m proud of you! Putting that much time into training yourself to help kids who need it is so punk rock. :)

But hell yea, I appreciate you ; u;

My fiancee works night currently as a nurse and I have worked 3rd shift multiple times in past jobs. My biggest advice to you is to value your sleep (trust me on this, be consistent and not allow yourself to stay up too long) and to believe in yourself. :) As long as you believe in yourself and not overdo the school work load in the process, I'm confident that you got this!

this doesn't apply 100%, but I used to be an RA (and in a "hard science" major with heavy credit/course loads) and we'd work overnight sometimes! We'd have to work weekends from 7pm-7am (but only actively working until 2am; from 2-7am we could relax as long as no incidents occurred).... and the only way i could maintain everything was by using good planning skills!!
I used google calendar to map out my entire schedule (including free time!), and then used a planner and color-coded every task. I would also make a list of my top priorities for the day (usually call it "the big 3" or something), so I at least had a focus for what to do.
By aggressively planning, I managed to get it all done and have some time to breathe, but I know I would've never survived if I didn't plan the heck out of my days. I hope this helps, and don't forget to schedule some time to just relax every week - good luck!!
