title! i never hopped on the bandwagon when zelda: BOTW came out because i couldn't afford a switch investment, but watched a ton of livestreams and speedruns back then. now that i have a switch, i've kinda gotten back into watching them and am feeling The Urge to Purchase. i've always loved zelda games and played all of them fervently (WW till i die!!), but am wondering:

1. how the actual play experience still is for people, years down the line. graphics still up to par, few frustrations in gameplay, etc? would you still recommend it highly?
2. do you think it's still worthwhile to buy, at this point in time, when BOTW 2 is already in dev and might be out in 2021? (bearing in mind that 80 bucks for the game and the DLC is a significant amt to me lol)

i would highly recommend lozbotw to literally everybody, before animal crossing new horizons, lozbotw was my absolute favourite game ♡♡♡
the graphics, story and characters are all incredible

honestly i had never played a legend of zelda game before this but i am so glad i did get it because i got 700+ hours of play out of it lol

it is by far one of the best games i've bought and so worth all the money i spent on it and the dlc ☆☆

sorry for my long comment i just really love that game ♡♡♡♡

literally any part with the beautiful prince sidon aha

but my favourite was the divine beasts and the puzzles, especially naboris from urbosa's story, just because i love camels lol and also the part where you gotta sneak through the yiga hide out and throw bananas everywhere, then fight that weird boss

all of it was just amazing though, i've started again so many times and i've enjoyed it each time i played ♡

Even though BOTW isn't exciting and not real enough as the other Zelda games, I would still get it so you can understand the 2nd game. Trust me it will be hard to understand what is going on in the 2nd game. Also who knows you will know the controlls already when you play the 2nd game because you played the 1st one.

And Anyways BOTW 1 is been going on sale a lot because it's not selling like crazy anymore. So you will be lucky to get it cheaper, walmart sells their switch games 50$ instead and they would mostly have them on sale.

I'd definitely get it if you can! It's a really great game. It's not my absolute favorite (WW is mine too) but I still go back to it every now and then and have just as much fun with it as I did when it first came out. With BotW 2 on the way I think it'd be the perfect time to play it!

There's never a bad time to play through a good game. One benefit of waiting months or years after a game's initial release is it's much easier to find a good deal on the game when you buy it. Except for the couple of games that I really, really wanted right at launch, normally I just wait to buy games. Let's say you spend $300 on games over some period of time. Instead of having 5 full-priced $60 games, you might end up with 7 or 8 games this way, and they're just as fun to play through even though you didn't buy them right at launch.

BOTW was my first Zelda game and I managed to get it on sale and I 100% would be willing to pay full price. It was the first game that I really thought was worth the $80 price tag and thats coming from someone who is really stingy with money. The story and graphics are great and the difficulty is just right enough to frustrate me and keep me coming back to try again

BOTW is the last game other than Animal Crossing where I got that "wow this is amazing" feeling that I used to get as a kid when playing games.

100 percent would recommend you buy it, even if you don't get the DLC right away and save a bit of cash

BOTW is so stacked with content, it could probably last you until BOTW2 comes out if you do everything the game has to offer. I also think it’s going to be a direct story sequel, so you might want to play BOTW first for that. The graphics are... let’s be frank, outstanding- and leagues above any other Nintendo offerings save maybe Mario Odyssey. The only and minor complaint I have about the game (I have the WiiU version) is that it lags a little in the Kakariko Village & Zora’s Domain areas- that was never a problem for my friends who bought & played it on Switch. Everything else about it is just mind-blowing- characters have surprising depth despite not being seen for the most part during the chronology of the game, gameplay is good & fights are fun rather than frustrating, puzzles are often more challenging than usual for Zelda & almost every one of the 250 shrines- replacing long dungeons/temples- has a unique puzzle. It’s everything you expect out of Zelda & then overdelivers- I’ve been debating purchasing the Switch version to go along with my WiiU copy LOL
So yes I genuinely hope you buy it because it’s a game worth playing, especially for Zelda fans.

haha, yeah! i remember thinking the whole set up of entering the divine beasts was so interesting - an dungeon equiv open to the landscape, those sought after long puzzles, etc. nice nice! thank ya :D

fair and valid points, thank ya!

oooh, is wally world the only place putting in on sale, tho, or have you seen it other places? 🤔 could be very into an on sale price for BOTW, but wouldn't nec wanna support wally world as a corporation lollll

yay! nice to hear from a WW fan too, that BOTW lives up to it. a replayable game is so invaluable tbh! thanks :p

yeah!! i haven't seen it on sale any place i've been looking (would prefer to avoid wally world), but haven't been looking all that intensely or often either haha. if you know of any good shops, i'd love a rec! :D

what a sheer delight ! i live for that textured good game nostalgia that echoes inside your heart. can i ask what your favorite moment(s) were? heard some critique about the musical atmosphere in the game so am curious if the environment as a whole still offers that wow punch or if its mostly visual? no spoiler warnings necessary haha

good point as well on the DLC. it doesn't impact anything for me to purchase later - like its an add-on to the main storyline that can be completed at any time, yeah?

haha! love the enthusiasm, thank you so much for the detail! appreciate it. ✨

yeah, i would be buying the switch version, so no worries specifically there, tho i have heard before about some of the loading time complaints. i am a sucker for good stylized graphics. WW was my fave for a reason, but i hated twilight princess lol. nice to know about the character depth tho! sometimes LOZ games do feel quite shallow in that department (again, WW has been my champion for this)

re fights and particularly in light of this being an AC site and new horizons  how do you feel weapon durability is ? experience any frustrations there?

Early game it can be a bit frustrating, but eventually you'll find more weapons than you know what to do with and have to throw some weapons away anyway. I like the concept of cycling through different weapons instead of just using one sword all of the time, but one of the few problems with BOTW is that there are basically three different kinds of weapons with different skins and stats, so there isn't that much weapon variation. Hopefully the sequel will improve that. At least BOTW tells you when stuff is close to breaking unlike ACNH.

I got it on the Nintendo e-shop! I've never seen it on sale in a physical store (in my country anyway)

I LOVE botw, it's sooo good. up until the release of new horizons, the only thing that made me put it down was when i got stuck in the divine beasts, and even then i didn't put it down for long. plus, i'd say that it's a good idea to play the first one first so that you have an idea of the story, gameplay mechanics, characters, and so on.

as for the dlc, i bought it at the peak of my love for the game and it just made a lot of it better. i'd say wait until you're hooked to buy it, though from the perspective of someone who really loved the base game and the dlc, it definitely enhances the experience.

there are some areas where it falls flat; for instance lots of people say the dungeons fall flat, don't like the weapon durability, etc, but those feel really minor when there's so much content in the game. imo, it's definitely worth the money.

It depends on what you want. If you want a huge world where you can just travel through then sure. But if you want a game with high quality linearity then I'd wait for the squeal. I've spent 120 hours on it. At-least 100 hours of it was just running and climbing from point A to B

Remember there are many other games that do the open world aspect far better than BOTW and would be a lot cheaper in comparison.

BOTW is fantastic, if you like Open World RPGs in any capacity you'll move this one. And BOTW2 is definitely not coming out this year.
