The question is worded weird but basically what I’m asking is, for the new game, if you would rather be in even more control than in New Leaf and fully controlling the town, or if you’d rather just be a citizen and watch the town change without your total control. And, I’d imagine most of us would fall somewhere in the middle. I’m just asking generally, so pick the one that you think more suits you.

Just curious on people’s opinions. A lot of people are saying they’d love a game in which we’re in charge of constructing a whole town, while others have said they wouldn’t be opposed to being a regular citizen again without extra political duties. For me personally I think I’d rather not deal with planning out where eceryone’s going to live/terrain sculpting, etc. So I’d probably lean toward the latter.

I don't want the control, I'll let Tortimer have it back! I miss just being a resident, hehe

Until we have more info, I have no comment about whether I want to control or to be a smaller part just yet... (and Tortimer is retired...why would he come back as mayor?)

I just want to have control of things decoration wise, everything else I don't really care if I do.

I don't mind if a NPC becomes the mayor again, as long as the player has control on some things
then it's fine for me.

If the player character could be like... minister of Beautiful Town or something... just control/influence how the town looks overall. The PWPs we have currently would fit into that concept. Maybe even landscaping duties and stuff. Permanent Rocks Demolishing Team. Might be cool :)

i enjoyed being mayor of the town in New Leaf a lot, but after hundreds of hours play time i felt that it became my downfall bc i would nitpick over the smallest things that i thought were wrong with my town, and kind of obsess over trivial stuff until i had everything perfect. like the amount of stress i got over my villagers houses not being in the perfect spot was just...

i think a change of pace would be fun, whereby you just sit by and let normal life take over and just live day-to-day as it comes, however i can't see nint doing this as being mayor was so well-received. but hey ho who knows :lemon:

As long as there was still ample customization, I'd like the bigger world and giving up the mayoral duties.

I'd like more control, personally! I'm not too nit picky, but there's a lot of things I'd like to exercise control over if it was easier to do so. I really like themed/aesthetic towns, so anything that helps make them easier to build would be a good feature in my book.

I preferred not being the mayor in charge of and having to pay for everything! I don't need the title or responsibility to know I'm the only one keeping this town moving.

I'd personally like for it to go back to having 'lots' where houses will go. It's nicer to know exactly where a house is supposed to go and decorate around that instead of planting flowers and trees and praying that Bob isn't gonna plant his house on top of em.

And if I'm not mayor PWPs might actually just be in a big list with certain milestones unlocking fancier things instead of making me wait and hide from the villagers just to get em to ping, and then have them just ask for something I have no interest in putting in a town and having to repeat the cycle all over again.

Isabelle works hard. Isabelle deserves to be mayor!

I think games can definitely get to a point where you have too much control as the player, especially if that isn't how that game is meant to be/wasn't the original idea. My best example of this is Harvest Moon: A New Beginning. IMO that game is one of the lowest points in the entire Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series. You had way too much control, and it just wasn't fun. In HM/SoS, I want the experience of being a farmer in a town. Not being the overlord of this little farm town who decides where everything goes and where everyone lives. I'm probably talking too much about that game, but I wanted to give an example of how I don't want Animal Crossing to end up. A lot of the fun is being a resident of a town that feels 'real' and alive. Too much control, and that's taken away, to me. Heck, even The Sims 4, a game all about control, can give the player too much control at times. For myself, and I'm sure many others, games need that aspect of random events to remain engaging, even if that does mean presenting a challenge in some ways. Sorry for going on a tangent, I just really feel that and over abundance of player control has been a genuine flaw in simulation games lately.

I actually prefer an Animal Crossing where you have less control. It causes less stress, and with everyone so caught up in having a perfect town and having everything just as you want it to be, we need a game with limited control. The way Animal Crossing is currently being played where everyone wants their dream villagers in a specific part of town, trying so much to get a complete catalog or achieving a perfect town rating is too stressful for some. I know this because of how many vents there are saying ?this villager ruined my garden!!? or ?this villager plotted right on top of my path!!?

Things have come a long way, honestly. Animal Crossing used to be this stress-free game where we came to in order to escape from the real world. Now, it feels more like a competition.

Total control. It's part of the reason I enjoy the games so much because it's a secluded little world that I can escape to to get away from real life.

This is a very good example of my thoughts towards not the games, but the way the fanbase has started playing them. Everyone is just so anal and obsessive over every little aspect of their town looking "perfect" that it has taken a lot of the personality and individualism out of it, not to mention visiting someone elses town only to find it has the same 10 villagers, the same pathways, sign posts threatening death if flower gardens are tread upon, etc.

I am honestly glad someone agrees with me. I don’t want to anger the fanbase. Most of the sought after villagers appear in almost every town. I miss when Animal Crossing was seen as a more relaxing game.

i wanna be in control but not in a cheaty way. choosing exactly where villagers move in or when they leave or being able to move the river is just too much
