So in case you didn't notice, in the Welcome amiibo update for New Leaf, they made it so you can actually make wishes on stars with a tool in your hand. They recognized it as a necessary QoL improvement for New Leaf, even if meteor showers wasn't really big thing.

But in New Horizons, when meteor showers are now a bigger deal, they remove a QoL feature that they added for New Leaf? But why? I hate fumbling with my tools and the camera when wishing on stars. I usually end up missing them. They should add it back. What do you guys think?

I wish I could find an image of what that looked like in ACNL but Google Images is just swarmed ACNH shots or tool-less characters in ACNL. I don't particularly remember it.

I didn't play Welcome Amiibo too much so I actually didn't notice this. I knew about using certain tools while shaking trees. Although I suppose since there are normally so many shooting stars that happen at once in NH if you miss one while unequipping it's not a big deal normally. I still think that this should come back, though.

i honestly didn’t play new leaf much after the “welcome amiibo” update but i definitely would love this feature to come back! now that i don’t really play at night anymore, i haven’t had many encounters with shooting stars in recent months but i’ve certainly missed out on loads of wishes due to having to fumble with tools and the camera. >_<

I also didn't play new leaf much after welcome amiibo so I had no idea this was even a thing. it'd definitely be a nice QoL thing but luckily so far I've mostly used meteonook to find out when I have shooting stars, so I'm prepared in advance for the stars! although it'd also be nice to be able to sit down and make wishes

Yeah, it isn't a big deal for the heavy meteor showers, but it definitely makes a big impact on the light ones :( Sometimes there's only one star at a time and then I don't encounter any more.

i haven't even played new horizons for a whole month yet, but i instantly recognized that there was something wrong LOL i just tried wishing on star with a tool in my hand out of habit from new leaf, but of course it didn't work, as you just described. i assume that maybe nintendo just overlooked this little annoyance and maybe they'll fix it later on. it still bothers me though considering how inconsistent shooting stars have been for me.

I totally forgot wishing stars was a thing in NL lol...I didn't do it much. You just got random presents in the mail later right? That is kind of sad that they did that update in NL and kept it out in NH. Because I have to use my pole and ladder to traverse a lot still and then boom I can't get the tool off soon enough and the star goes away.

One thing they did keep in though was being able to shake trees with a net still in your system. That was a WA update that I loved so much. It made catching the bees so easy.

What is the name of this item? I cannot find references to this mechanic on the wikis.

Edit: Nevermind. I just realized I misunderstood the wording of this post. What you meant by that is it is possible to make wishes even with tools equipped.

I very much remember that... Or at least I did when you mentioned it. I remember how psyched everyone was for not having to cycle between items just to have empty hands in NL.

I don't know about this update when I played NL. By then I didn't really make wishes so I guess I never noticed. But yes, I agree that the devs need to implement more QoL changes and keep them in the games.

Honestly, I had no idea the Welcome Amiibo update changed that. Could you link any footage or screenshots showing off what it looks like? I tried Googling, and I got no relevant results. Interestingly enough, only this thread came up in terms of relevance.

I don’t mind the way it is in New Horizons at all. I think having both hands free to do the animation makes it look way more natural and, well, nicer. An animation wishing with one hand free and a tool in the other hand just seems awkward and weird, which is why I can’t even recall it being a thing in New Leaf at any point.

This used to bother me as I seemed to hardly ever see shooting stars and when they finally appeared I'd be wasting time trying to put away whatever tool I was holding. Another area of the game that made me keep missing them was when diving came out as I'd be out to sea and then spot them and by the time I got back to shore I'd missed them all. However now I know my weather seed neither of those issues bother me anymore as I know when to expect the shooting stars but I do think the tool holding problem should be sorted to make it easier for those who don't know their seed to make wishes, especially as it was solved in NL.

That sounds more annoying than having to put the tools away. If you’re fishing or bug catching at night and there happens to be a star, then all of a sudden your character is making a wish? Idk man especially with the bug catching. I’d be real annoyed if something good got away because of that.

Or what about trying to shoot down balloons during a meteor shower? I think the developers made the right call.
