Any rules as to who you let move onto your island?

Do you have any strict rules you follow whenever you are choosing who to allow onto your island?

I was doing some island hopping today, since Quillson moved out yesterday, and I had an open plot... and I had this question run through my mind. I have this strict rule that I do NOT allow dogs to move onto my island at all! (I have a huge phobia of dogs in real life, so I tend to not allow any of them to move onto my island in-game.) But I was wondering... does anyone else happen to have any rules they follow whenever they look for villagers to move onto their island? Or are most of the player base just open-minded, and allow whoever to move onto their island(s)?

I’m super strict. I only scan in amiibos for my villagers. My starter was Mac and I kept him because he’s so cute but he’s the only non-amiibo. It’s just so easy for me to decide who I want and scan them in.

I do have rules, although not very strict ones. Mainly I don't let more than 3 of the same personnality type on my island. Depending on who I have on my island at the time I define some rules and possible villagers I'd like before going on a hunt. For example: I'd like a cranky, I want them to have an interesting house, they must fit this build I'm planning on doing next, have a certain color scheme etc. Also I avoid villagers I had on a previous island, just to get some variety.

I have a list of permanent villagers I'll keep forever when they move on to my island but until they show up, I'm pretty lenient. The only villagers I won't let move onto my island are the gorillas and that's because I think their design is hideous.

My only rule is I invite only villager I find cute and/or funny. I know this is pure discrimination lol I also try to always have one villager of each personality. I also think I can say I will never invite a cow, I really don't like them in AC (and in real life I am not a fan either).

Not really. As long as it's not Klaus, Tammy, Diva, or an anteater or rhino, they can live on my Island. Once they move in, they can never leave. Oh, and no octopuses.

Yes. I typically look to have at least one of each personality, but sometimes I bend my own rules. I’m thinking that the next time someone moves out I’m going to let there be a random move-in because I’m bored (and if it ends up being a villager I dislike, I can always just amiibo them out.)

I’m usually not too strict though I do like to have variety so I do limit one of each species and I always try to have at least one of very personality type. After that it doesn’t really matter.

I pretty much let whoever I find cute or cool looking move in with the exception of when I let voided characters move in cause I have no control over that. I never adopt villagers so everyone who comes onto my island must be from the void, an island, a camper, or one of my amiibos.

I'm trying to finalized my 10 villager list and I'm having a hard time on following my no two lazy rule because Bones is so cute and I'll never let Cranston leave. I want to have a 50-50 male/female island but I like a lot more of the female villagers. Also I want to have no double species which is extremely hard

I have some rules for both my islands. One island has more rules then the other. For both I want at least one of each personality. For Serenity I am now doing an all penguin island . I am more flexible with who I invite to my second island Jurai.

If by rules you mean I have to actually like the villager and also have at least 1 of each personality, then yeah, I have rules.

originally i was pretty deadset on it being just my dreamies, unless i couldn't find them while island-hopping, and then tolerating whoever moved in randomly if i failed. now that i have 7/10 of my dreamies, i don't island hop anymore and just let random villagers move in for some variety and to get some villager pictures. right now, i'm apparently going through my sister and girlfriend's rejects.

My goal is to collect all photos eventually. I do have some permanent villagers which is currently 4 atm.

I'm open to all designs too. My only rule is not having three or more personality types.

I want to collect lots of villager photos, so I’m pretty open about who moves in on my main island. On my second island though, I would like the villagers to have either a black and white, or brown house exterior. I broke this rule when I invited Fuchsia, and her bright pink house really bothers me and it kinda took away my motivation to decorate the island.

I like to have at least one of every personality type and no duplicate species if I can help it. I’m more lax with the duplicate species rule though!

My only rule is that I do not allow any villagers with ugly eyesore exteriors like this on my island.

(sorry Ankha)

I have a mostly cat island, with one cat of each personality, plus two duplicates which aren't cats. I don't allow mice or gorillas. I'm just not fond of those species.

No not really, I don't like to collect a certain species or personality, I basically let any species or personality in but however, (this is going to sound super mean) I don't let ugly villagers in.

I have loose guidelines—I don’t have more than two of any personality at a time, and I tend to steer clear of the villagers with very human features like Monique or Barold or Tammi. I don’t let the game auto fill the plots, but I don’t island hop for “dreamies” either. I just use about 5-15 tickets until I find somebody who appeals to me and invite them in.
