Any rules as to who you let move onto your island?

Do you have any strict rules you follow whenever you are choosing who to allow onto your island?

I try to not have more than one animal of the same species, and at least one of each personality to keep dialog as fresh as possible

No more than 2 of the same personality and only 1 villager per species at a time are my only rules.

If I see a villager running around my island they will be moved out. I cannot stand them doing that especially if they are near the flowers.

I'm trying to have at least one personality to have diversity with my villagers, although currently I have two sisterly, three lazies, and zero jock or cranky.

Needless to say, I got some brushing up to do on following my own rules.

In terms of species though, anything goes. I have three horse villagers, and I just got my fourth today being Reneigh. Zero shame 😂

i don't like a lot of the in-game species like mice and gorillas... the only rules i go for is theming, like right now i have a fairycore themed island, so lots of white/pink/blue villagers. also i like to have at least one of each personality type

My rules were: minimum one of each personality, but no more than two of any personality. They must be cute, and I have to like them. Pretty simple! Now that I have my permanent villagers, that doesn’t matter anymore.

Well, I have compelled my list of dreamies if that counts as a yes. :ppp

I already have my forever (for now) villagers, but the rules were: at least one of each personality, no more than one of each species, and they need to "fit" with other villagers that have houses in the same neighborhood

the only rule that i have is that if i’ve already had a villager on my island at one point, i try not to have them again afterwards since i enjoy getting to bond with new villagers (or ones i haven’t seen since nl) and collecting their photos! otherwise, i’m not too picky at all; as long as it’s a villager that i like and would be happy to have around, stuff like design, species, etc doesn’t matter to me. :’)

I kinda let the villagers dictate their own little (programmed) lives and move if they feel like it, but if someone with the racing helmet moves in...... goodbye.

The only ones not allowed to leave are Mac, Bluebear, Shep, and Rosie!

I’m pretty lenient about it, just make sure to have a variety of personality types and I’m set. Genji is my only permanent, everyone else I let come and go freely to keep the game moving forward.

I'd call them more guidelines than rules, as I'm literally breaking all of my preferences right now.

1. At least one of each personality type (although I currently do not have the Peppy type and I honestly do not miss it)
2. An even split of boys and girls
3. Not too many of one species (an admittedly vague rule that I still managed to break by having four cats until recently)

Also, it's not really a rule, but I don't think I'll ever let another cranky on my island. Since I'm so connected to Wolfgang, I fear it would be too painful seeing his phrases recycled by another.

I invite everyone who still has a poster to unlock, and my old villagers from NL to get their photo.

I try to have one of each personality type, with a maximum of two per (although Wendy moved in unannounced the other day... she will be first to move out). There are a few villagers that I won't let move out (Tangy, Pango, Apollo), but then for the rest, I am open to letting them go (some more than others) and will hopefully find an equally appealing villager of the same personality type to take their place.

I'm trying to collect everyone's pictures and posters, so my only rule is to only invite villagers for whom I haven't completed that. I don't TT, though, and didn't start collecting until a few months into the game, so it hasn't really been an issue so far when inviting new villagers.

My only main rule is that I'll only have two of a certain villager type. I tried to bend the rule and keep three lazies (Beau, Egbert, and Sherb) but it was just too much. They are all so cute but it wasn't enough to justify the sheer repetitiveness of the dialogue!

Aside from that I'm generally pretty flexible but I'm not in a hurry to invite kangaroos, gorillas, or mice to my island because I personally find those are the designs I like the least. The kangaroos kind of creep me out (I think one just moved into my New Leaf town though 😔 but maybe I'll love him!) and same with the gorillas. It's nice how in New Horizons you have the ability to go island hopping for villagers when somebody moves out so you have a little more freedom to pick a villager!

I have a list of villagers I complied that I have an interest in meeting after looking at all of them online.

not really strict strict, but i try not to have too many of the same personality as they don't have much variety in dialogue (even less so in new horizons). i try to limit to it about two of each personality. being a little bit more lenient with this lately as it limits my options a lot.

Before I had a theme, I just allowed any villager that I just liked so long as I had at least one villager of each personality type and no more than two of the same species.
