Are You Ready for the Nintendo Switch 2?

I'm not sure if I'm ready, but I'm really looking forward to it!

Sort of. I'm still enjoying Switch 1 but it'll be really cool when the 2nd comes out!

I'm NOT ready, I don't think I'll even be able to afford it, and I don't want the switch to end yet lol

As long it’s backwards compatible and compatible with all Nintendo Switch Online retro games, I will be ready for the next console.

I heard that it's confirmed to be backwards compatible so I am 100% ready for a handheld that doesn't lag anymore.

Indeed, the president of Nintendo confirmed this week during the investors Q&A that the Switch successor would let you play Switch 1 games. The Nintendo X account then published this tidbit on the same day.

Sweeeet!! Always happy news! Legit, that's freaking great. I'm interested to see how much better Switch 1 games will run on it.

Yes and no.

While there are some games that I've enjoyed on the Switch, I feel like compared to the previous consoles and handhelds, the Switch was sort of disappointing in a number of areas. No customization via themes like was possible on the 3DS, Virtual Console being replaced with Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass and its limited selection of titles, being made to pay for online that's somehow worse than when it was free on the 3DS.

Despite nearly making me leave the series with Sword & Shield and the Let's Go games, Pokémon managed to get its hooks back in me with Legends Arceus and Scarlet & Violet. I'm interested in Legends Z-A and future games.

Fire Emblem, despite having some of my favorite video games of all time among its roster of games, has been more miss than hit for me over the past decade. It's no longer really what I fell in love with all those years ago and it's kind of a crapshoot whether a game they release is going to be something I check out and enjoy or something I ignore entirely.

Animal Crossing's trajectory post-New Horizons will be something to watch. I'm someone who, while I appreciate a number of features added to New Horizons, still prefers a bunch of aspects of New Leaf. I especially want more focus on interior designing our homes again and for us to make bigger rooms in our own houses like the 10x10 we get to work with in Happy Home Paradise DLC.

What even is the future of Super Smash Bros. if Masahiro Sakurai is done? Will it hold the same appeal? Maybe they'll just keep the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate base and add more characters onto it? I dunno. Have to wait and see for whatever eventuality.

With Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance releasing on other platforms, perhaps SMT won't strictly be Nintendo release anymore? If so, there's another reason for Nintendo loyalty gone.

Do I really want to shell out however much the Switch 2 is going to cost just for Pokémon and maybe a Fire Emblem I might enjoy? I dunno. Those things have gotten me this far, but I don't know if I'll continue down this path.

I can't really say that I'm clamoring to spend money on the Switch 2. I think they need to do more to win me over.

It depends on what games are released with it. I usually wait a good 6 months to a year before buying any new consoles. I might make an exception if a new AC game comes out with it. I guess it also depends on when it’s released and if I can afford it at the time.

Honestly, no. I'm content with the current Switch aside from the performance that needs to be beefed up. I find it hard to imagine how Nintendo will make Switch 2 unique compared to the current one. I'm sure they don't want another Wii U situation where some people legitimately thought that it's just an additional accessory to the Wii.
