How did you feel when target (the store LOL) passed away in canada asking for a friend
yknow i think target evaded me solely so i cant meme on it.

i can only recall going to target once in my life -- whenever i moved out of a city, a target opened soon after. and then i finally went to a target and they went bankrupt not a year later?? so i feel nothing except insulted

maybe it was me. maybe i killed target.

i feel sad for zellers though.

I’m glad I clicked on this thread cos now I’m laughing about pog beach again lmfao

SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU

1) when did you start drawing and what inspired you?
2) have you read any good books lately?
3) how are you doing? ❤️

I’m glad I clicked on this thread cos now I’m laughing about pog beach again lmfao
GOOD. as it should be.

i love pog beach so much... its like instant serotonin

1) when did you start drawing and what inspired you?
i think i started drawing around 2005 or 2006 (because of MapleStory and a bunch of other things) -- it was always sort of just a "this is a fun thing to pass time", but i started drawing a lot more in 2007 (i was on a pokemon oekaki board and got my first tablet! which i still use today because it's sturdy and works well so why not). also a lot of doodles in class.

i dont know if i was actually inspired by anything (beyond my "i want to do this too" sort of way)! i think i just liked drawing characters, especially ocs and stuff. it was sort of just a passive thing that i picked up for fun, and since i was around people that liked drawing, i also liked it. i think a lot of it revolves around the people around me -- i have fun drawing friends and OCs.

(in retrospect, 2005 was a long time ago -- but i never actually focused on art or studied it seriously! its always just been a passive background thing that i do at my own pace. please dont think i dedicated 16 years to get where i currently am. it's just a hobby and all in good fun for me)

2) have you read any good books lately?
the closest thing to a book would be... a friend of mine wrote a novella for fun which i'm still getting through (and enjoying thoroughly)? i don't actually read that many books: i just can't ever find the time or attention span to read. if i do end up reading something i end up binge-reading and i lose days of my life (which i can't do anymore, since i have a job and all).

i think the last stories i finished reading were web novels (doomed to be canon fodder was one of them -- a friend and i just had a whole month where we read a lot of chinese web novels. they're fun!)

i think the last physical book that i can remember reading (which isn't an artbook) was... a textbook. which i love very much but that's sort of not a great answer. i dont think anyone wants to hear me talk about that.

3) how are you doing? ❤
im doing good! i'm avoiding doing work since it's a weekend (which i'll regret come tomorrow, but that's a problem for futrue me)
pog beach makes me very happy

You just unlocked a memory I totally forgot about!! Oekaki boards!! Omg I would spend so long scrolling through them and watching the replays back, that was such a huge inspiration for me too because I so desperately wanted to make art like them!! I think mine was a wolf oekaki board though lmao.

Do you still have any of your super old art? (If you share yours I’ll share mine HAHA)

also, how old are you? I feel like we might be a similar age as seem to have had the same experiences growing up!! this is the start of a beautiful friendship 🥺 now I need to find out if you ever read warrior cats

how cool that your friend has written a novella?!? That’s amazing!! And so glad you’re enjoying it! I totally understand the attention span thing and finding time, I always put it off because I lose so many hours and I don’t want to sacrifice my hours before bed/work lmao it sounds silly because what else would I be doing?? I’m getting better at it and making a conscious effort to read a little more regularly now! The last book I binge read was flowers for Algernon (amazing book but v sad)

also glad ur making the most of ur weekend/free time, work is for worktime !!
another question if ur comfortable
What do you do for work? Does it relate to art or memes? (If not ur in the wrong job… jkjk)

i will share... the very first picture i ever drew with my tablet (2007)

a very cute story about this: i was really proud of myself and i printed it out and brought it to school and one of the older students that i was friends with (who also did art and i really respected them) was proud of me, which got me drawing more and more.

unknown.png

i dont have many pictures saved from that time, but i did have that and a few others.

one more that im willing to share is from 2008 because i still draw fanart of these characters
unknown.png

ion and sync from tales of the abyss
sync was my favourite character back then, and still one of my favourites now

im dying of embarrassment but im proud of younger me.

also, how old are you? I feel like we might be a similar age as seem to have had the same experiences growing up!! this is the start of a beautiful friendship 🥺 now I need to find out if you ever read warrior cats
i am in the 25-30 range! i can answer in private but prefer not to give my specific age in public
unfortunately, i never read warrior cats! i think the only book i read that was in that radius was The Sight, because my best friend really loved the book. i remember very little but i would recognize the names from that book instantly.

the series i was more into as a kid were Series of Unfortunate Events, and Artemis Fowl (also some Darren Shan books since one of my friends was into those, but i only remember bits and pieces)

it is very cool! its not published or anything (because they would rather not) and my friend doesn't call it a novella -- but it absolutely is one. and i will call it as i see it.
rest time is for rest, and sometimes it's good to just... not do things. i don't think it sounds silly!
also, i always see flowers of algernon being mentioned and i'm just... one day i should read it.
but i know i wont. i say that about a lot of books-- it would be really nice to just have time to sit down and go through classics

also glad ur making the most of ur weekend/free time, work is for worktime !!

my work is not related to art or memes in the slightest! my job is related to post-secondary computer science education. that's about as far as i'll go with describing it in public (though i'm fine talking in private about this sort of stuff) \o/ i like computer science and programming just as much as i like art (and i'd like to think i'm much better at the former than the latter)

Hi! 😊 I hope you’re doing well. I have a couple questions for you; I’ve been asking a few others some of these so I hope you don’t mind that :).

1. Do you have a favorite type of artwork to look at?
2. What is your favorite art piece that you’ve done?
3. How long did it take you to reach the level of artwork that you do today? (If that is too personal, you don’t have to answer)
4. Any tips for aspiring artists?

do you have a favorite song/artist?

Hi! 😊 I hope you’re doing well. I have a couple questions for you; I’ve been asking a few others some of these so I hope you don’t mind that :).

1. Do you have a favorite type of artwork to look at?
tough question! i typically like anything colourful or atmospheric,
but in general... i think i like looking at character designs most, and character art!

some art i like below!

2. What is your favorite art piece that you’ve done?
i think it would be this one!

just because im really happy with the design and pose even though its been like.. a year \o/

3. How long did it take you to reach the level of artwork that you do today? (If that is too personal, you don’t have to answer)
i started drawing in 2006-ish so that would make it 15 years or so? but i didn't spend all of that time drawing -- it was sort of in the background rather than something i actively worked on or focused on improving! i think people could actually get to where i am in like 1/10th of the time if they focused on improving and had a clear goal.

4. Any tips for aspiring artists?
i think any advice i have would vary based on the person and what their goals are! i had a hard time coming up with a concrete answer for this since i have a lot to say here. in general for learning anything: if you want to learn something but you're scared (because you've never done it, you don't think you'll do well, etc.), then just start! it's okay to not be good at something, that's what why we learn. it's very easy to be disheartened, but it helps to remember why you're doing it and focus on that.

for art in general, i'd say its probably very important to build a solid foundation (i.e. learning anatomy properly, breaking things down into simpler shapes, etc.) because it's very hard to unlearn habits. i never learned proper anatomy and it shows and makes a lot of things very difficult! but if learning those things are stopping you from enjoying stuff... then sometimes it's okay to do things your own way and to learn at your own pace.

also important: if you're doing art and posting on social media, don't pay attention to likes/shares/etc. (unless you're doing art specifically in a commercial capacity -- if you're doing it for money, i have a lot of other advice for that). likes/shares/etc. are a mix of skill and luck (and a lot of self-marketing). those numbers aren't a reflection of your skill.

i can go on and on about this topic but i'll stop here (but feel free to ask more if you'd like! i can give more specific advice like tutorials and the likes), but it's sort of hard for me to give 'general tips'.

i very much like talking about learning and helping people learn, so i'm always happy to engage these conversations. but it's also very multifaceted, so i can't really talk about everything i would possibly want to. i feel leaving some stuff out feels disingenuous.

i'm very serious about this answer. i can give a different answer with serious songs but my answer would change regularly.

Is it fun being mafia?
you tell me

Are you sad when the thread is closed?
it gives me more time to think up jokes i could make, so no
a little bit, though. but i like having breaks.

What's your favorite programming language?

Conversely, what's your least favorite programming language?

What do you usually order from Tim Hortons?

Since I saw you being into the A Series of Unfortunate Events books as a kid (which I was into as well tbh, lol), I have to ask, did you read any books from the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series?

How many different locations have you gotten poutine from? And in a similar vein, have you ever ate a poutine you haven't enjoyed?

What's the origin story behind your OC, how did he come to be?
an excellent question! to which i have... no good answer
i know he came into being around 2014 (and was based off my mabinogi character who looked fairly different)
tumblr_ncdv451kfK1rb7l5mo1_1280.png

"pants optional" because i really did not like wearing pants at the time.
shorts are optimal.

this was the first ref i had for him, but i drew him before this. i dont know where the little... hair pieces came from, but i think i just drew it once and liked it so i kept it! theres a bunch of old doodles where he has different hairstyles (usually based on my irl hairstyle at the time... i think? im not sure)

i think the bob cut is just because i like bob cuts both in games and irl.

but anyways! he just came into existence one day based off my mabinogi character and has been here ever since. i really have no idea!
i have a lot of ocs that i CAN remember where they came from with a lot of clarity. but this one.......... my main boy...... is a mystery.

What's your favorite programming language?
i feel like im going to get some slack for this, but it's python! my first language was java, though.
it's just very convenient and requires no compiling effort and i am very lazy

Conversely, what's your least favorite programming language?
C++
no shade to anyone that likes it, but i learned java, C, and C# before i had to use C++ and i just... do not like how it looks at all. i barely used it though. but i just... it felt like a bad mix between java and C

What do you usually order from Tim Hortons?
i usually go there to quickly grab food before working, so it's usually tea + some sort of breakfast sandwich or donut! i like trying limited edition flavours of stuff

in the summer i like pink frozen lemonade though
sweet stuff good. i also dont like the taste of coffee so i avoid coffee-flavoured things.

Since I saw you being into the A Series of Unfortunate Events books as a kid (which I was into as well tbh, lol), I have to ask, did you read any books from the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series?
i did not -- somehow i never even heard of it until i was an adult!
series of unfortunate events is good, im glad you were into it too. the netflix adaptation is pretty nice.

How many different locations have you gotten poutine from? And in a similar vein, have you ever ate a poutine you haven't enjoyed?
many poutines from many locations. there's no way to keep track
i don't think i've eaten one that i haven't enjoyed -- i like french fries in general and you can't really mess up cheese curds and gravy. even if the fries arent good, gravy will save it.

I came up with more questions to ask you:

1. What's your favourite Canadian store if you have any?
2. I noticed your OC mainly wears blue clothing. What did you feel about it when you had to change it to purple temporarily?
3. Have you come up with backstories of your OCs?
4. Is there a reason why most of your posts have sentences that have tiny fonts (I'm curious to know, I tend to do this too lol)?

Also, I should've said this some time ago but it's nice seeing another member who lives in Canada.

I came up with more questions to ask you:

1. What's your favourite Canadian store if you have any?
yknow i never actually thought too much about canadian stores -- i don't really think i have much of a favourite, but if i had to pick... shoppers drug mart? just because its like everywhere and convenient

i also used to buy gift cards from there all the time when i was little.
so many karma koin cards. so many mastercard gift cards. the days when i didnt have a credit card.

2. I noticed your OC mainly wears blue clothing. What did you feel about it when you had to change it to purple temporarily?
i didn't mind it, to be honest! my oc mainly wears blue because i like it aesthetically, and because blue is my favourite colour! but i dress him up in lots of different colours anyways, so it wasn't a big deal. though i would have preferred blue, im sorry purple.

3. Have you come up with backstories of your OCs?
for most of my OCs, yes! i would say my main one has the last backstory since he's just... there. existing. but otherwise, i usually have some sort of story for them, or i make one up when i feel like it!

4. Is there a reason why most of your posts have sentences that have tiny fonts (I'm curious to know, I tend to do this too lol)?
my thoughts are scattered all the time, so i tend to use it for "extra" things that don't really contribute to the main point, but which i don't want to remove. when i write i tend to have a lot of parentheses (like this, etc.) and dashes -- sort of like this -- for the same reason. the way i write reflects the way i think, which is very unstructured and messy unless i put in the effort to be more coherent
small text is an extension of that. it's also fun to have small text as disclaimers and stuff

Also, I should've said this some time ago but it's nice seeing another member who lives in Canada.
fellow canadians unite \o/

i've actually seen quite a handful of canadians here which is fun -- im used to being the only canadian, but my friend groups are usually fairly scattered throughout the world anyways

Oh my gosh, this inspired me to re-watch that series, my soul says thank you as my ears bleed from the beautiful voice acting.
While I'm here though, may I ask whether you do/have played any instruments?

i love nyan neko sugar girls and im glad you have been re-blessed
i don't play any instruments! i know like a tiny bit of piano, but not much at all (i just watched my friend play growing up and learned a little bit from that).

if i were to learn an instrument i think it'd be violin though -- for the aesthetics and because i love how they sound. or xylophone. for obvious silly reasons. but they also sound nice.

Ooh that’s cool, both of those instruments sound great.
Hahah in the case of nya neko sugar girls though:
1. Who’s your favourite character?
2.What section/episode/scene is your favourite? Hahaha
