AMA ask mistreil anything

the list is long indeed, but i think the main ones are
  • maplestory: i really loved party quests! it's also one of the first mmos i ever played, so it holds a special place in my heart.
  • trickster online: they had a drilling system in this game, and i adored it! i spent all of my time doing that instead of levelling properly, but it was very fun.
  • lunia: the combat was fun in this one -- it was very combo-based, and i liked the different classes! it was one of the first games i played that had a puppeteer-like class, which i adore.
  • mabinogi: the skill system in mabinogi is hands down my favourite. it gives a lot of freedom and doesn't force you into a specific class, which i'm a huge fan of. i like games that give you freedom!
there's a lot of games that i like but didnt list (maplestory 2 for its UGC, ragnarok online in general, tree of savior for its class/combat system... toontown for the trolley games.) -- otherwise the list would get very very long.
theres also a handful of games that i only played for a short while

at present i dont have enough time to dedicate to any MMOs, and none really pull me in enough. maplestory 2 was probably the most recent but it closed

i was looking forward to Peria Chronicles but then that game got cancelled... so now i'm waiting for Blue Protocol! it'll be a long wait, but i hope it's worth it ywy);; i like anime-styled MMOs the most
I had so much fun on Maple Story 2... Why did they have to end it..... I never even got to endgame but regret not getting there now, I can't even find my screenshots anymore either ;-;

Blue Protocol looks neat though! Hopefully soon...

aaa rip ;; i got to endgame but rng gated my progression so i couldnt do the raids properly
also my pc was a potato so it wouldnt have ended well anyways. oh well

it was cute!! and i loved it... making UGC was great

and yea! i really want blue protocol to come out soon, and i hope it's good! it looks so nice and i just.. really want good anime MMOs

in terms of old school classes: archer (hunter)! i just liked ranged classes at the time -- arrow bomb was the bomb

when cygnus knights came out: wind archer! because it was like hunter but better

for all the new classes... i played demon hunter and i think that's my preference -- it's pretty fun, and i like slapping a bunch of buttons and moving around.

I played as magician originally. Then in uni, some of my friends picked it back up out of nostalgia and... yeah, it kind of ate up my whole summer lol. I really enjoyed playing as Mercedes, Beast Tamer, and Angelic Buster.

no amount of schooling has ever prepared me for this question. god uhhHHhh

appetizer: potato pancakes? a few anyways -- if those count as appetizers even. potato good
entree: braised sea cucumber with shiitake mushrooms (+ rice) -- some meat as well (probably bulgogi or something to that effect)
dessert: white peach parfait

it's not a very coherent menu but i like each part individually!

Tee hee, it's a fun question. As a foodie, I find it interesting what other people's tastes are. I don't think I've ever had sea cucumber before!

when i was little i went to the US once and cuba, but i dont really count those (my memories of some of these are vague, and not really of my own volition)

after i finished graduate studies though, i did some travelling!
i went to vietnam with my parents (both south and north, though mostly i was in hcmc/saigon) and to visit a friend! it was a fun experience, and i was a lot more comfortable than i expected (since i was pretty averse to travelling beforehand, especially when i can't even speak vietnamese)

a few weeks after that trip, i went to paris to visit some other friends, which was also a nice experience! it essentially just became a food trip and playing together with friends was nice.

before covid happened, my plans were to go to vietnam again, and to visit switzerland, the uk, and japan -- all of them for the sake of hanging out with some of my friends (since that's my main incentive). all of these plans are on hold for now, but eventually.. hopefully... ywy)9

1) What did you study in school?
2) What would you recommend seeing/doing on a trip to Vietnam?
3) How do you have so many friends all over the world? O:

Now that the game is over, I shall ask some mafia related questions:
1) When was the last time you played mafia?
2) How did you enjoy being mafia?
3) What is/was your favorite role to play as in mafia?
4) If you didn't kill me N1, who would you have gone for instead?
5) Do you think I would've killed you if the roles were reversed (you as town, me as mafia)?

i feel that so much -- every time i go back to maplestory i lose a few months of my life

agreed -- i love hearing what people can/can't eat, and their preferences
sea cucumber is something i ate a lot when i was little, but it's pretty expensive now i think? i can't quite describe it -- texturally its smooth and sort of like tofu or jelly? but a bit more sturdy than both.

1) What did you study in school?
2) What would you recommend seeing/doing on a trip to Vietnam?
3) How do you have so many friends all over the world? O:

1. computer science!

2. is it bad if my answer is eating food-- my experience was largely based off wherever my friend brought me on her motorbike, and she had a list of different food places she wanted to bring me to! their food culture is huge, so you can find a lot of different dishes there.
(i think my friend brought me to places that tourists usually don't visit, though, so maybe my experience was different.)

3. i met all of them through MMOs! a lot of them also do art or were close to the game's art communities, so we ended up bonding and becoming close friends \o/ it was all just luck, i think, but im glad for it!

Now that the game is over, I shall ask some mafia related questions:
1) When was the last time you played mafia?
if you dont count among us, it would be... a few years ago? playing epicmafia with some friends (but we stopped because of salt issues)

2) How did you enjoy being mafia?
it was fun! it was nice being able to joke without actually having to worry about people's alignments -- i think that helped me meme more (which rosie somewhat called out because i was only mildly helpful otherwise)

3) What is/was your favorite role to play as in mafia?
i think i like silly roles the most -- epicmafia has a bunch of them! while investigative roles are fun, i always end up dying instantly when i get them.

4) If you didn't kill me N1, who would you have gone for instead?
i think i was going to choose karma otherwise, which still wouldn't have ended well!

i wanted to pick people who i was fairly sure wouldn't mind dying so early (because i know n1 deaths usually feel bad). you had some former mafia games already on top of having a functional braincell, so i was like.... im sorry kilza.
unknown.png

5) Do you think I would've killed you if the roles were reversed (you as town, me as mafia)?
for n1 at least, i think i'd be left alive just so i could meme! especially if i didn't seem like a threat -- but i think the moment i say something that implies im dangerous, you would pick up on it and killed me immediately.

lskf;adkdsg IM SORRY KARMA

Omg I didn't know you were in comp sci! What was your favorite class and project you worked on in college?
oh jeeze UHHh i took a lot of different cs courses

i think my favourite would have to be an algorithms course (greedy algorithms, dynamic programming, NP-hard/NP-complete problems, etc. can you tell i liked this course a lot) -- i just find algorithms really fun to write and learn about!
everyone i knew hated that course though. rip.

for projects... there was a computer vision course and i had fun with all of the projects there (because they were also algorithm-based).
i took a gamedev course too which i did like! but my experience there was bad because groups are hit/miss and this one was a miss (as in half the group just ghosted and i had to pull so many allnighters). i learned a lot though, and the end result wasn't bad.

Omg. I basically travel for food as well. Like I literally don't care what we do, I let my friends pick the museums and landmarks to visit, and I pick the food.

That's super cool that you guys have stayed in touch! I've never met any online friends irl.

1) Do you have any siblings? What is your relationship like?
2) What are some things on your bucket list?
3) If you could have any ability at all, what would it be and why?

i feel the museum and landmark stuff -- i like looking at them but my attention is always stolen by food instead
meeting online friends irl was quite a hurdle for me! for some reason though, with this set of people i just felt very comfortable and my gut was right. \o/

1) Do you have any siblings? What is your relationship like?
2) What are some things on your bucket list?
3) If you could have any ability at all, what would it be and why?
1. i do! i have one older sister (she's older by 1 year) -- we're pretty close and get along well! we used to play the same games growing up, so our tastes are pretty similar. as the younger sibling, i... mooch off her a lot. she is less than impressed with me sometimes.
2. aside from my travel plans... my bucket list is sort of everchanging -- i want to learn languages, and maybe learn to play an instrument (piano is easiest, but violin would be ideal). one goal is to make a game thats been on my mind for years -- i have the skillset, but just no motivation/time. motivation and time are the main things im missing for everything though tbh
3. teleportation, probably? both for travel purposes, and so i never have to wake up early to commute.
otherwise... the ability to fluently read/speak/write/understand any language!

Sounds like me and my sister, except I'm older so she's the mooch (She calls me her "sugar ster")

Omg, that last part hits too close.

3) What made you want a whole row of toy hammers?

younger sibling privileges πŸŽ‰ i feel bad for her though, for having to put up with the stuff i pull. sometimes.

1) Which languages would you want to learn?
2) Tell me more about this game you'd like to develop.
3) What made you want a whole row of toy hammers?
1. this will be long im sorry
  • teochew (a chinese dialect) is the main one i'd want to learn, but it's the hardest to find resources for since it's not one of the main chinese dialects! but it's what my family speaks, and i'd like to be able to speak it too
  • cantonese is my backup, since that's a bit more accessible than teochew.
  • vietnamese comes after, for family reasons too
  • japanese after all of those... because i consume a lot of media and want to travel there, so it feels like i should
  • and then french! which i know better than all of the above (thanks to school), but i'd like to be able to actually be a bit more fluent
mandarin is the most common chinese dialect but i actually have no interest in it. my parents rarely speak it, and i dont like how it sounds compared to cantonese/teochewnese

2. it is surprise surprise a mafia-like game, but with escape-room elements. i like both things, and i really loved the Rabbit Doubt manga when i was younger -- it was my first experience with mafia, so it's sort of an homage to that.
essentially it's like throwing people into a randomly-generated puzzle/map, and they try to escape. but with chances of being betrayed by other players, and having some set of subgoals (like keeping another player alive).

im sure it'll be made one day before i get around to it, which i'd be happy with. but if not, one day i'd like to have the motivation to properly create it.

3. i think they're cute! as another reason: i'm a fan of the tales of- series games, and they always have an attack where a toy hammer falls from the sky, so its an homage to that! also i didn't want to think of how to arrange a row of collectibles, and 5 toy hammers just looks nice
im lazy

1. Maplestory 2 on launch was the greatest thing of all time.

2. Did you hear about the conspiracy about how the large guilds in Maple Story controlled all of the end game content and was manipulating the market in order to only let their characters be the end game characters?

Also Rabbit Doubt is closest to Zero Escape (although obviously they're not quite comparable.)

1. Maplestory 2 on launch was the greatest thing of all time.
yes it was.
i want mushking royale back. i want the social atmosphere back.

2. Did you hear about the conspiracy about how the large guilds in Maple Story controlled all of the end game content and was manipulating the market in order to only let their characters be the end game characters?
i need you to elaborate on this one.
i want to hear it.

Also Rabbit Doubt is closest to Zero Escape (although obviously they're not quite comparable.)
one day i'll play zero escape instead of just reading about it. my ever growing pile of games.
also bless you for knowing rabbit doubt.

I can't quite remember it, but I remember being flabbergasted. There was some sort of End Game Drop that was needed by all the characters? So the large guilds were eating it up at low prices and selling it for high prices to make a ton of money?

Elite players control this game : MapleStory2 (reddit.com)

Here's the post.
OH THIS
ahahahahaha-- yes i know about this. very well, actually.

i was one degree of separation away from some of the 'elites' (close friends of their friends). some people essentially played chaos onyx (it was farmable and actually not that bad, but required patience to farm. sort of a pain.) like it was the stock market, and that was sort of the main thing. people didn't like that type of market manipulation (but it also happens in a lot of MMOs so it was weird that it caused so much drama. ms2 was strange.)

the market crashed at times, though, which was pretty funny.

they also didnt intentionally withhold information and there was a lot of drama around that! they shared info pretty openly. they just didn't want to use the time to write long formal guides about it, and people got mad at them for not doing so -- they felt like they should be spoonfed all of the information?

but yeah it was blown waaaaaaay out of proportion.
i also see bot-chan comments in the thread which is a throwback. im friends with the one who drew the original bot-chan art so this is amusing

i miss maplestory 2 πŸ˜”

My turn to ask the same questions:

Ya I can definitely relate to the ptsd... Beat in angel is such a good song but... no more......

Follow up question: How were you introduced to the love live series?

What series (if anything) are you watching right now?

i... i actually don't remember how i got into love live! i think my friend dragged me into it through llsif because she drags me into a lot of mobages and the game itself was fun! i played for a pretty long time and just followed along with it -- i drop in and out of it all the time, though. didnt pick it up for a while until all stars, and then put it down a little later. i dont have enough self control to not spend trying to get best girls and i knew i needed to get out before they put in the sets i would whale for

What series (if anything) are you watching right now?
none at the moment! i was keeping up with the new higurashi and need to catch up on the last few episodes -- i always end up binging series in one go rather than keeping up over time! i also need to catch up with the fruits basket remake eventually but i know ill spend a lot of time crying. fruits basket..... also hamefura, horimiya, uma musume s2, osomatsu s3--

i used to watch stuff while i went to the gym (mindlessly exercising and focusing on anime.. it makes time pass so much faster)
but gym's closed because of the pandemic so ive been slacking 'w');;;;;;;;

Some more questions!

2. Favorite Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons Games?
3. Favorite Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons Characters?
